All the comments make me so happy. I'm not sure why people think Korea has only kpop when you can find literally any genre in Korea. FTIsland have been my favorite band for 11 years now and they have gone through a lot of genres and finally settled a few years back with rock and pop rock after the company finally allowed them to make the music THEY wanna make. It's self-written, self-produced and of course played by them. Their concerts are absolutely amazing, especially since their vocalist Hongki is an outstanding vocalist. Also they are friends with the Japanese band One Ok Rock (just in case you ever come across them) so they draw a lot of inspiration from one another! My favorite 'recent' track is "Out Of Love" tbh
Right? I never understand people who think other countries only have one genre of music? Of course, they have different styles: trot, folk, rnb, rap, etc, etc. It's just that like any other country, pop acts have the mass appeal so they are the ones you are more likely to hear about unless you go looking for others. But it makes me so excited when people actually check it out and realize they like it!
The live recordings of "Take Me Now" are amazing. The lead vocalist, Lee Hong Ki, can belt out a scream like nobody's business. He has incredible control of his voice and it's very unique. As far as I'm concerned, Hongki is a god. Check out their live stuff like "Pray" and "Revolution". They also have lots of live acoustic tunes that kill it like "Stay" and "Paradise".
FT Island is an insanely talented band that's been around for a while. They are technically kpop but are K rock, they have a huge discography that has many different songs ranging from rock ballads to hard rock songs. Their live performances are insane.
Other k-bands to react to would be Day6 and N.flying. Day6 is more on the ballad side, focusing on amazing vocals. N.Flying is a super entertaining group, their music videos tend to be funny, also great vocals. The two vocalist are FT Island Lee Hong Gi and N.Flying Yoo hwe seung, both super talented people. I’ve been listening to Lee Hong Go’s radio show that I don’t think he does anymore recently. He’s a super talented guy and deserves much more Recognition :)
For some reason in Korea, if it's any kind of boy band, it's included in the K-pop genre. No matter if you play hard rock or pop rock. You forgot Wind. Out of love amazing. What Hong Ki the singer said they are not an idol, they are a band. Kpop in Korea is anyone who starts young, who is a fliwer boy, only young people in Korea listen to it. Ft island steuggled trying to get that label.
@@maritaslotte626 it's less that they're all put in the same genre and more that endless genres exist under the umbrella term "K-pop," because, contrary to the general idea of "pop" as a genre, the term "K-pop" simply refers to popular music in/from Korea. Take me now is the song the band had fully had control of. Their agency usually got involved with almost all their songs to fit with the "korean music standard" thus not giving the band their freedom of expression. The band actually had been fighting for that right with the CEO for years. FT Island is more free to express themselves in japan. They are active their and very well known. You know japan. They have no limits with anything. They have a song before Take me now which is called PRAY. The band doesn't have full control on this song. I say it as often as I can : kpop is not just the one band coming out to the world right now.... It's because we have ftisland, exo, got7, cnblue and so much more who pull out not only one genre but a whole variety

You should also check out the K-Rock band "Bursters". Korea has some really good Metal /Death Metal bands but the problem is that this type of music/genre is not really popular in Korea. Koreans are more known for their Ballads. The Singer of F.T. Island is considered one of the best Vocalists in Korea. He has his own Radio show. He currently serving is mandatory Military service, all male koreans must go thru before they turn 30. The Label FNC is known for their bands, N.Flying, CN.Blue are super good bands too. They write their own music.
Loved that you used Maximum the Hormone for the intro. They're wild. I've been following FT Island since they started. They have really good stuff and I was so excited when I saw you reacted to this video. Love your channel. Keep it up!
Ok, that was cool! Honestly, I am happy to have found reaction channels, because they have opened me up to music I would not have listened to before, and I GREATLY appreciate it! Thank you for that!!
After living in korea for almost a decade, the problem with kpop in Korea is that the management companies basically dominate and own all the media and the scene, and the kind of freedom of expression that allows for awesome rock, metal, and other indie music is really not supported by the culture or the industry. It's rare to find a band that does something individual and unique, and it's even more rare to see a band like that hasn't been gobbled up and turned into something heavily produced. Punk, and independent rock (and hip hop for that matter) does exist there, and some of it is absolutely sick, but it's all smothered under the wet blanket of the industry. As other people have mentioned, this band spent over a decade trying to get permission to play what they want to play, and even then they're still beholden to their companies. Kpop music in general is extremely well produced, but a lot of it suffers from being soulless in a way, which is unfortunate. There's a ton of talent over there, but it's going to be a long time before the people, especially young people, are able to have the kind of freedom of expression and individuality which lets them really develop a good scene.
OMG! My daughter is into K-Pop for years. I even had to take her to Amsterdam to see BTS a few years ago....from Italy, as they played only 3 gigs in Europe and this was the nearest one. This was HARD to take for a 51 year old metal fan ;-). I got to send her this one. Maybe she will make up her mind. At least my son shares dad's taste of music. It could be worse.
ah your daughter is lucky T_T I never had the money to go see them cuz the concerts are always far away and super expensive for my pocket :( and I hope she finds some metal songs she loves in the future! keep trying different bands! I myself started as a mainly rock and metal fan as a kid, heavily influenced by my brother lol, and continued adding new genres of music as I grew up and am a huge kpop fan for over a decade now - they have a great mastery of mixing different genres of music and I absolutely adore the love and dedication they put into their music and performances!! there are many great groups out there and I hope you check them out too ^.^ one I heavily recommend is Stray Kids (debuted in 2018, very experimental in their music, most songs are made by the 3 main rappers who started as 3RACHA rap trio and were very popular on soundcloud and are heavily involved in the production, while other members take part in creating the choreographies. The group has a lot of songs about mental health related topics and a mainly heavy and dark sound (and yes they do have some songs with rock elements and even a song named Rock)
@@izzykuronekomiminobishoujo6910 Oh yes! It was an expensive adventure. But that's what daddies do, right? Actually I would never spend so much money only for myself.
This is not what I expected... I was thinking K-Pop was all electronic with just singers. I think I could get behind K-Rock though! I liked this a lot.
"K-Pop" is almost an umbrella term for modern Korean music these days, honestly. You can find genres like K-RnB, K-Hip Hop, or even Korean ballads tucked into it. Not everything is bubblegum pop or the weird side of Korean music like "Gangnam Style". I've been a kpop fan since 2008 and my music taste is always evolving, but they have many talented artists that keep me entertained. Westerners often misunderstand Kpop and Korean music in general as just artists like PSY or BTS because the rest aren't viral enough to get over here, but that's not the case. Glad you guys like FT Island from what you heard in this. They are one of my favorite bands.
welp gotta pop that bubble then XD k-pop has a ton of genres mixed in under this umbrella term so u can find a specific group or band that you'd like no doubt
Exciting that you're stepping into k-rock!!! Very cool, this band is very popular! On a different note: BAND-MAID released new music!! You should react to Manners!
FTIsland is labelled in Korea as "Kpop" just because Rock is almost non-existent in their mainstream music. FNC is part of the big 3 entertainment companies so they had to "package" FTisland just like other Kpop groups so they will be to compete with SM or JYP. So in Korea, FTIsland releases are more rock-pop and ballad, in the recent years they tried to release more heavy sounding stuff. But in Japan they are embraced (with arms wide open), right from the start as a full-pledge rock band. That's why almost all of their Japanese releases are heavier than their Korean releases. Sadly they have a much bigger following in Japan than in Korea. And now with the lead guitarist scandal and guitarist leaving the group, their future is unclear.
Hi! Thank you for reaction. FTISLAND have amazing Songs. I recommend you another song - "Shadows" (Japanese release). I know another Korea rock band - BURSTERS. BURSTERS is a metalcore/post-hardcore band.
Yeah they are kpop band but i think they are kore popular in japan. Their japan tracks are all good. You can try to watch their concert video too. I would recommended flower rock, their japan debut song, the song was soo goood
Interesting! If you're falling into the K-rock/K-pop hole I'd recommend the k-rockband Rolling Quartz. Just released their debut track, Blaze, and it's such a banger.
Korean Rock legends YB (Yoon Do Hyun Band) are the most famous especially being the first Korean act to play SXSW. I think they also played in Lollapalooza and Coachella? Recently they are featured in The Metallica Blacklist. They cover Sad But True. The main vocalist is Yoon Do Hyun and is a famous and well known Korean celebrity with the most powerful vocals. Their music ranges from metal to folk to pop and everything in between. They started in 1996! One of my favorite albums is Coexistence and they do full albums not mini ones. Blue Whale and A Flying Butterfly are the most well known songs from them, but their live performances are the best. Twilight State is their 2019 album. It would be great to see you react to their newest to oldest.
So first I will agree, "Pray" is gonna be so up your alley but as a vocal snob, and the reason I'm a big fan of FT Island is because of his vocals, I also have to say check out "Wind". However, for some more KRock, check out TOXIC, they're a very little known group but they're a lot less mainstream than say, Day6 etc.
You gotta listen to Shadows by ft island omg its so good. If you wanna dip your toes into Kpop while still having a bit of a rock influences then please check out Dreamcatcher its a girl group while they dont play instruments all their title and some bsides have that rock influence. And for them I would recommend Scream then Boca and then after that Odd Eye
Kpop just really stands for popular Korean music but most people think of it as pop bc pop music is usually one of the more popular genres... it’s like an umbrella term kpop/krock/khiphop etc
Yeah discovered these guys a couple months ago. Really great group (though while this song is heavy, kinda repetitive) they have a bunch of other varied tracks from ballads to rock in both Korean and Japanese. If you want something similar would recommend any song by JRock band Man with a Mission. Also Migma Shelter worth a listen as got intriguing rhythms.
You should also check out the Japanese band One Ok Rock. They also do songs in English but they tend to be a little more pop-ish. But they are very similar to FTIsland and the bands are actually really good friends! (FTIsland has Japanese versions of their songs and they promote and tour heavily in Japan). I would say that One Ok Rock is probably one of the largest, if not largest, bands in Japan.
okay wow I'm legit crying right now so here it goes I'm a Primadonna (the fanclub name of ftisland btw) since 2011 and i saw them so many times live, they've been through so muxh it's insane and now after all these years and everything that happened and me trying to convince other ppl to listen to them but they just don't want to and then i find this video of someone completely unbiased loving the heck out of take me now and me getting freaking emotional and crying because this is how it should be, thank you so so mixh seriously i do appreciate this on a whole nother level you don't even know and yes I'm so biased it's weird lol wooow they've been throigh so much and I've been through it with them and to see this genuine postive reaction is just wow, and thanks for the insides too, i have no actual clue about the technical stiff but it's always interetsing to know and the banksy (i think is how you write that name) reference you mentioned made me go like: 🤔🤯 you riiiight lool woaaah this was on of the songs from my very first time i went to see them live in korea 2016 (saw them in paris in 2015 before) woaaahh so many memories and you just love it just loke as is and that make me so proud as a fan and it fascinates me everytime how literally everyone just enjoys theit music , hint: try pray next time or even better you should try and watch some live performances of them and you'll be probably blown away cuz tbh them live is even better than any mv or studio recording ahh ahh thanks again k, bye lol #ProudGermanPrimadonna
Hi thank you for reacting to this music video and adding some tank fact that is really interesting. I recommend you to watch their other song like Shadows, Pray and their live performances.
It's never wrong to broaden one's horizon and be open - minded - one might actually stumble across something enjoyable :3 I know us metal heads can be somewhat elitist and super proud of our's or our favourite musicians technical prowess (and yes, often with good reason), but there's a whole dang load of musicians outside of our musical comfort zone who know their trade inside - out as well :)
You can also check out band called Bursters and their song Lost Child or band Diablo and songs - Sorrow, Nothing to die for or Unheard Answer ...they are also from Korea and rockin hard :-)
Def in the same boat, starting watching thinking it was just going to be something I forgot about in like 5 minutes but pleasently surprised. If you feel like venturing back to familiar territory, I def reccomend Iron Strengthens Iron by Dyscarnate. Keep rockin!
Their also a song called NIGHTMARE. It has multiple artist in it. It's kinda hard to explain. It has a band, rap, vocal, dj and a girl too. You'll be the judge. Anyways, here's the link: ua-cam.com/video/604ofjl1cv8/v-deo.html I couldn't named them all. It's basically just a project. A one time thing. They are also korean by the way.
My fav Korean rock band ❤️ you need to check NFlying song "hot potato" they're friends with Ftisland, and Day6 another k-rock band, Drug Restaurant too, Novadox, Bursters,... 🔥🔥🔥🔥
In the k-rock (k-metal even?) genre i absolutely rec Jambinai - 'Time of Extinction' the use of traditional Korean instruments along really heavy guitar is *chef kiss*
That came unexpected, but is very welcome!! If you enter the realm of k-rock, you might want to check out DAY6 (Sweet Chaos, I Wait) and N.Flying (The Real, Queen Medley) too!
If you want to headbang to other K-Rock groups other than FTISLAND I recommend BURSTERS, they lean more toward the genre you like. Or if you want to just plainly check out other K-Rock groups I recommend (there's only a few of them): CNBlue N.Flying DAY6 The Rose Drug Restaurant TRAX (their earlier stuff was purely metal until they shifted their style for Korean standards and renamed as TraxX) Onewe LEDapple Rolling Quartz Walking After U Dreamcatcher
Thanks for your reaction! Yeah, they are a Kpop group but they have been trying to break out of that stigma for a while now. They want to play rock music like this, but their popularity has gone down since they started it, so they are kinda confused now and between genres.. I really hope that they continue with this style successfully cause they are AWESOME
as somebody who was a metalhead for like 10 years and then fell head first into kpop, so cool that you try something new! I agree with some others, Day 6 is another cool band!
I like this video very much. If you don't mind, i would like to ask your permission to share this video to the other website in China. Of course, I will give sources of the original website. Thank you very much!!
If you loved this one, I suggest this songs, thank me later :p you won't be desappointed, trust me they are gems: -FT Island (Korea): Pray (live) [FTISLAND ENCORE LIVE 2019 -ARIGATO-] -JJ Lin (Singapur&China): Our love ua-cam.com/video/VlMN_JbEJwI/v-deo.html -Guckkasten (Korea): Lazenca, save us ua-cam.com/video/K7ZuaZeuCyE/v-deo.html -Lion (China): It's my life (cover): ua-cam.com/video/cWTztuZD5PU/v-deo.html -One ok rock (Japan): The beginning: -Wagakki (Japan) band ft. Evanescence: Bring me to life
Yeah, FT Island! Their have some great songs, I really like "I Want", great one, and ballad "Crying in the Rain", especially japanese version. And their not k-pop, it's definitely rock band. You should react another korean rock band Jaurim, this one is not that heavy like FT Island, it's more like classic rock, their music have that vibe from old british rock. Great song is "#1", full lyrics in english, or my favourite is "Icarus", something little different, they have female vocalist, she is amazing, one of the best female singers I've ever heard, "Icarus" is her vocal masterpiece. Can you react Girugämesh's song "Kowarete Iku Sekai" official music video with english subs? I wrote you about it long time ago on live stream and you said that you like Girugämesh and you really want react this song. I send you link to this. ;) ua-cam.com/video/RiWPBkJ1VzU/v-deo.html
Dreamcatcher should definitely be near the top of your list. They even have a comeback (kpop lingo for when new singles/albums are released) on Jan 26th... They have amazing vocals over amazing rock/metal/edmrock music. If they're you're thing now is the best time to learn more before the comeback. Any exposure is always great since rock isn't that popular in Korea despite it usually being top-tier.
Something out of Korea equivalent to mix of Behemoth + Dethklok + Children of Bodom would be Oathean. I'm super impressed with their sound. They've been around since the 90s, but never had much exposure.
In the more traditional "kpop" group (girl group)) I will recomend "Dreamcatcher-Chase Me" (first song ), they played with a lot of generes but always with a taste of rock, different from most mainstream Girl Groups. Also, most of the videos, especially their first videos have a connected story.
This band was interesting to say the least. About new reaction/bands - did anyone mentioned Sirenia? not many good live videos, but Seven Widows Weep video has good view of the gear
I think you'd love Vassline. They're the hidden set of gems in Korean metalcore scene. If you like Crystal Lake, you'd love these dudes. Check out their song Divine Deception.

FT Island perfect vocals 🔥
Doctor: "So how did you get whiplash and concussion?"
Tank: "I was headbanging ferociously to K-Pop."
Doctor: Quizzical looks
OMFG!!! This is K-Pop????? I am as shocked! Stunned! Wow! Gotta check out this band! Right now!
The main thing you need to know about FTISLAND. They are devilishly good at live rock-performances
FT ISLAND is my favorite K rock band.
Oh please continue reacting to Ft Island. They are sooo good.
Never heard of this band before and definetly didnt expect that sound. Sounds awesome :D

My all time favorite band #1! Lee Hongki has a fenomenal voice 💛💛💛💛 thanks for this reaction!
That was actually pretty dam good👍🏻😉
Loved song and video! Totally didn’t expect that
Thank you for reacting to FT.Island , please react more of Hong Ki singing.
Yeah ... same here. 😅
Absolutely agree. It rocked!!!
Recommending to watch their live, think you'll like it
Thanks for reaction )
Amazing and informative reaction 😊 I would recommend their songs Pray and Shadows (a Japanese song), they are amazing too!
Yea definitely pray. Pray is just such a good song
Watching your reaction again and again🤩 This song is amazing!
Good grooves in that. I'm happily surprised.
I love Ft island....primadona forever...🤘
You’re not wrong! They’re really just a k-Rock group operating in the kpop scene 😬
React to Ft island shadows and pray. Those two songs are great
I never ever thought I would see you headbang to F.T. Island. Wtf. Lol. What a day!!! Thanks again Tank.
🤘🤘🤘
Estoy aqui 😅por Ftisland 😂 ♡
Not mad at this at all. Never listen to Kpop or Krock but I appreciate the exposure and am looking forward to checking out more. Thanks Tank! 🤘
Hi thank you for reacting to this music video and adding some tank fact that is really interesting. I recommend you to watch their other song like Shadows, Pray and their live performances.
I recommend you to react to FTISLAND - PRAY! I'm sure you'll love it!
Thank you so much!!!!!! Please listen to their Japanese songs like "Be Free", "Shadows", "Beautiful", "Tornado" and so much more!
That was hard as hell💯🔥💯🔥
Your reaction videos are absolutly awesome with your tank facts, that makes watching it really cool ! Thanks ! :)
Thanks!
That is a realy Excellent Shirt! 🤩
Your truly surprised reaction few first seconds in always get me lol😂
they were the first k-band to debut in kpop. They are considered kpop since it is an industry rather than a genre
If you want to listen to more of their songs, I would personally recomend their song Pray, jsut my personal favourite of their song.
I love your reaction😂
This is not 'Kpop’ this is 'K-Rock/K-Band’, feel free to check more of FT Island music because they’re ROCK 🔥
I also recommend some of their Japanese stuff. United Shadows, I think you’d enjoy that one. Pray is a must as well.
Welcome to the Wonderful Wacky World of K-pop :D
First time I've seen any of your vids, but subbing for respect of your tech knowledge (and also having some K-ROCK).
Seconding Pray by them!
In the k-rock (k-metal even?) genre i absolutely rec Jambinai - 'Time of Extinction'
the use of traditional Korean instruments along really heavy guitar is *chef kiss*
Or if you want to just plainly check out other K-Rock groups I recommend (there's only a few of them):
CNBlue
N.Flying
DAY6
The Rose
Drug Restaurant
TRAX (their earlier stuff was purely metal until they shifted their style for Korean standards and renamed as TraxX)
Onewe
LEDapple
Rolling Quartz
Walking After U
Dreamcatcher
Yes bursters are so good
That was unexpected.
FYI, Brothers of Metal has a new video for a song that you will probably like coming out today or tomorrow.
Go for it.
You should do a reaction to the Hu. Combination of traditional Mongolian singing and metal.
I have.
If you loved this one, I suggest this songs, thank me later :p you won't be desappointed, trust me they are gems:

-One ok rock (Japan): The beginning:

Reacciona a mas de sus videos de FT ISLAND por favor, tienen musicas muy buenas, PRAY
Check out Lovebites Holy War, Edge Of The World, The Hammer Of Wrath(live at Zepp tokyo)
Since no Lovebites reaction in live version
Once the music started I was like “What the f#%&k?!” and shot to my feet. I knew nothing about this stuff. Thanks for the vid!
I send you link to this. ;)
ua-cam.com/video/RiWPBkJ1VzU/v-deo.html
Crying in the rain !! Omgod i love that one
Definitely watch Pray & Shadows by FTIsland
Something out of Korea equivalent to mix of Behemoth + Dethklok + Children of Bodom would be Oathean. I'm super impressed with their sound. They've been around since the 90s, but never had much exposure.
That sounds highly intriguing!
RECOMENDATIONS :
FTISLAND - PRAY , MEMORY , HELLO
DAY6 - I NEED SOMEBODY
THE ROSE - SORRY
IZ- ANGEL
CNBLUE - SORRY /CINDERELLA
i was a primadonna on my early days and being reminded about what happened to them just really hurts me. my first ever fandom. my boys 😥
I think you'd love Vassline. They're the hidden set of gems in Korean metalcore scene. If you like Crystal Lake, you'd love these dudes. Check out their song Divine Deception.
Kpop is more than one genre. In fact its well known to mix genres
Ft Island 💛
