It's not just his voice, he's not a great singer technically, and he struggles with the melody and hitting the right notes, and he feels embarrassed being around such vocalists like Stevie Wonder, Dionne Warwick etc whose technical singing ability was integral to their careers. Btw, saying Dylan is not a technically accomplished singer is not hating on him. He found a style in which his voice works wonderfully, which together with his songwriting skills built his career. But stepping out of his comfort zone is obviously daunting to him, and I completely understand.
Props to Bob. He was so out of his comfort zone and he did it anyway. And masterful producing by Q; smooth, encouraging and positive, even when Bob was floundering. And to have Stevie be your accompanist while you’re learning your part. Not bad at all.

He has kind of an unique voice and I think he doesn't want it to stand out and ruin the harmony.
@Exnem - Yep, those bum notes really stand out on their own...
@@Rasbiffthe most sensible and perceptive comment I’ve read on here yet~
But I completely agree with OP that he doesn’t want his unique voice to stand out
Geezus, he's nervous as heck but still sings it perfect.
He sounds like he’s recording the sound track to toy story
Pete11377 haha wtf

6:26 Stevie living and celebrating when Bob let himself lose a bit more with his singing is so honest and wholesome
mrpurple11 authentic. Loved it.
Beautiful
Obviuosly, he is fed up!
I love how Bob looks to him and points as for Stevie to react bahaha, so precious
He's so precious 🥺
I don't know, but I'm moved and touched.
I think It's so beautiful time. Thank you, Bob. I feeled again Your voice is really excellent!!
Props to Bob. He was so out of his comfort zone and he did it anyway. And masterful producing by Q; smooth, encouraging and positive, even when Bob was floundering. And to have Stevie be your accompanist while you’re learning your part. Not bad at all.
It's great to see Bob singing his heart out on a song that is not his own, in a genre that's clearly outside of his comfort zone. Kudos to him!
i like the struggle in his voice. he always does it right though
That's an awesome point,
You are so on point with that
Every song was out of his comfort zone at that point in his life.
That "genre" being singing.
bob dylan's voice suits his style, if you come accustomed to it you start to hear a beauty in his timbre. Him going out of his comfort zone for such a cause and absolutely killing it is amazing.
Same with Cindy Lauper but you still see a ton of ppl talking shit on her..
I’m sorry and I know that honest minds differ, but I think your affinity for Bob Dylan, understandable as it is, is biasing your judgment here. There’s just no respectful way to say it: he sounds horrible on this song and his voice is discernibly and noticeably of a lesser quality than literally every single other singer.
@@bredenis5 some people just prefer imperfect voices. I think he sounds awesome with his unique phrasing and adds just as much to the song as the others!
@@alexlackner1945 i’m really trying to appreciate your point of view and I’m not necessarily disagreeing but kind of thinking in my mind would somebody say the same thing about somebody who was playing an instrument poorly? I don’t know that there would be any type of affinity for or appreciation of somebody playing something off key and chalk it up to their nuanced style.
@@bredenis5good point but think of the punk movement or bands like pavement. They made a pretty good living out of playing their instruments rather poorly and even off-key! Or the way Josh Homme alters his scales to give QOTSA songs their unique vibe. Or Tom Waits' junkyard percussion... there are many examples in music where going against the grain can produce something very interesting and unique. Yes it may be an aquired taste and not for everyone - but there's nothing i find more bland and boring than casting shows looking for the "perfect" voice...
Dylan is Dylan. No one else. His brand of music is his alone and for that, he'll always be remembered as Bob Dylan, no a-like ... His music
A legend...❤
Bob není zpěvák pro sborový zpěv, je solitér a originál. Přesto to s pomocí zejména Stevieho krásně zvládl. Jeho projev je jedinečný a výjimečný. Je klenot. Obdivuji ho.
He doesn't really sing, he just talks melodically.
That's because he is a poet, not a singer.

Its very endearing to watch Bob Dylan trying hard to get it right. ❤❤

True Artists❤
Bob Dylan being Bob Dylan. We're lucky to see it in real time and I'll be honest, I appreciate seeing his insecurities among the world's top singers from that era. He's surrounded by encouraging artists, that's great to see.
They understand each other's style and know what it's like to be in that position.
If I sounded that bad, I'd be insecure too. Someone early on in life should have pulled him to the side & said "Bobby, maybe you should give up on singing & focus your attention on something more pleasing to the ears." May I suggest doily making. Song writing is a lost art I think you could excell in. But, please, under no circumstance should you ever come within 10 ft of a microphone. For the love of God, don't even look in the direction of a microphone.
i dont think hes insecure

I can feel it too... the perfectionism.
In this beautiful song I'm just waiting for Bob's turn, there's something special about his input fantastic 👏
To all aspiring musicians and artists out there: just make sure you get started and keep going. See? Even the absolute masters still had their moments of flaw and doubt. Learn as much as you can on the way, stay open, but, never let any lack/inability stop you from reaching.
Bob Dylan has written so many lyrics that he remembers at his shows. He can't take his eyes off the paper for two lines.
You become connected to your own stuff a lot easier especially with how you unconsciously make it work for your voice. He’s trying to visualise and translate words on a page to performance it’s harder than you’d think.
Maybe he didn't really write his own stuff. Maybe the Beatles didn't either.
@@coolnamebro cool story bro

His style is so different that he found it difficult to interject. Love his style.
@Donna King, yeah it's not his style here that's the issue, his voice is just shot to hell. And I was a teen loving Dylan and now a senior citizen loving the teen Dylan. Not sure quite what went wrong with his voice. Could be some health issue - ?? Love his style too though, man this was quite rough he could have sung it not sure why he was so confused. Dylan has his own voice. He's not recognized as a singer par excellence, but right from the first time I heard this song, his solo lifted the whole thing higher than any of the others before him. Dylan and then Ray Charles: magic.
My favorite parts too. People dog Dylan but I've come to love the guy.
Stevie & Bruce was my favourite part
