      +Jack D. Ripper Mate- many years ago I sold my 40 watt 60's Fender Vibrolux for quite a bit of money. (head only) Wished I had never sold it.It was great - kicked arse even at that wattage thru 2 x 12 inch JBL's. I had it cross channelled with tone circuit cut out. In other words - permanent overdrive.

      +Jack D. Ripper I'm thinking of a Mint Fender Twin Reverb I lost years ago for $100 bill in pawn shop. One owner that had only played it a few times at the VFW I got for a trade a flying V & a crate bass amp for The Fender Twin lol I know i was an idiot .

    Well Joe, sitting here in Jordanville N.Y. picking away on my Music Man Silhouette pondering what amp will do the best job for me. I sold my Peavey Delta Blues. I love a 15" speaker pushing all that air. The problem I had was the weight of it. Where I lived before moving back to upstate N.Y. was a city that had lits of clubs that were either second floor of basement and lugging that amp around got to be a real chore. I began considering a Roland Blues Cube. For a solid state amp they sure are responsive and even sag like a tube amp. But.... Now I am retired so I guess something small like a Deluxe will work.

    These sound killer into, or out of a Ram's head big muff (before for bedroom volume, after for live). Makes a thin sounding 67 voiced single coil bridge pickup sound HUGE. Quick and easy way to get that late 70s/early 80's David Gilmour, or mock-Eric Johnson violin tone.

    I got a fuzz yesterday from a friend: a handbuild thing with a russian transistor (or whatever you call it). It's plain silver without any writings, two potis, two buttons, two leds (red & blue). It was build by some dude who never was into music at all. Just a technician who wanted to proof that he can do it. Out came a unique pedal with a great sound. One of a kind. I never liked fuzzes but this thing rocks! Pitty I can't post a picture. Reason why I write this: it looks like the pedal here in the demonstration ...

    Most guitar players have enormous trouble using highs , but the difference is I found great highs that sound sweet where before the highs were harsh and blaring too much.
    It can be done so the highs sing sooo awesome and beautiful you have a very versatile sound now !
    Its very hard too to get the voicing right but big bottom end notes with singing highs are the bomb imop !

    • @thesphericalguy9018
      @thesphericalguy9018 7 років тому +1

      Well said. Removing the highs sounds great in a bedroom, but live you need those suckers or your sound will just be muffled

    • @ijamsum
      @ijamsum 7 років тому

      Some 12ax7 tubes are amazing , the Tungsram ax7 pushed never has a bad note and the harmonics are amazing especially the beautiful highs like no other tube.
      Thin focused sounding amps try a GE 5751 as this tube has the fat sound like no other ax7 or 5751 can compare.
      A amp sound that will not sing in the highs limits your playing very much.
      Also my glass slide sound needed a bit less highs and a more fatter grinding sustain going on . awesome now
      Adjust everything till you get what works best, use you guitar volume too.

    That's one amazing tone, Joe. Now all I need is a '55 Bassman :D And yes, you gotta run it into an amp with a little gain (maybe not even as much as you had there, but a little tubey crunch) to get that violin tone thing happening. Your phrasing isn't hurting a bit either. Working on that. Thanks!

  • @timwhite5562
    @timwhite5562 7 років тому

    I love the Pork Loin though. I haven't had it on my board in probably 6 months, but I'll never get rid of it, it just has too many applications.
    Beyond the clean boost and overdrive functions, it can REALLY be indispensable. I have several amps at this point,between an early 80's Dumble and modified Plexi clones I built, and the 20W JCM 800 Jubilee i aquired last month, I don't foresee needing anything else for a long time, and beside using clean boosts and couple of ODs I use to color the amp's tube overdrive, I get all my dirt from the amps.
    However prior to that, while amps always came and went, I pretty much relied on Fender Blackface and a Silverface Pro Reverb, and got 80% of my dirt from pedals. Certain types of pedals, especially Big Muff type fuzz just didn't work well at all in them. The square, boxy scooped midrange just made them thin and harsh sounding. But the British voiced preamp in the P.L. after the muff made the Muffs sound like they were meant to.
    They REALLY make fender type amps MUCH more versatile.

    Well it makes total sense to have a drive/boost (always on) box to sort out the dramatic difference in British EL34/84 based amplifiers that have mid-range to spare oppose to the typical American 6L/6V based amplifiers that mush out pretty easily in the same way that classic British amps woof out in that lower mid-range area. Depends upon tone stack settings and definitely even more importantly what speaker(s) are being used. Not enough players pay enough attention to trying out and also mis-matching speakers. Obviously I know Joe isn't that sort of player, Is there anything that you've not tried Joe?

I heard you make a comment in an interview that when you first switched on the new rig and was messing around you said something like, “Wow! I could use this and go play with Slayer!” Would it work well for a metal you think? I play a lot of other styles as well, but primarily metal when it comes to guitar.
