In the 70’s Waylon was in the studio recording. His label sent a courier from New York to Austin to deliver some coke. The FBI followed him the whole way. The reference to something that was long gone is that as soon as they busted in the producer ran in the restroom and flushed it. They still arrested everyone including Waylon but had to drop the charges because there was no evidence.
I’ve read the Waylon biography and the true story of how this song became about and how he was involved in a cocaine bust was funny as hell, with Richie Albright flushing the cocaine down the drain! Lol!
Some people have called it out, but for a bit more detail, this version was recorded in the 90's but lost until about five years before he died and produced by Waylon's son and his backing band. The original was released back in 1978 and was a (relatively) young man's reaction to being branded an "outlaw" for not toeing the Nashville line and to me, this one feels like an old man looking back on the same events.
Outlaw Bit is the original song released in 1978. It's a true story the DEA busted in the studio in 1977 because a package of cocaine had just been delivered and they'd followed it. Richie Albright flushed it down the toilet. Waylon was arrested but charges were dropped. This was his other version he released towards the end of his career and life. Y'all should react to Outlaw Bit, great song.
I think Waylon was haunted by the arrest. The original song said Outlaw "Bit" it was livelier and is well remembered by fans. I discovered "Outlaw SH*T" on UA-cam and I love it more than the original. It feel like Waylon still had more to say about the incident, which seemed to still hurt Waylon even years later. I hope he was able to get it out of his system with this performance. RIP Waylon!
You were asking for names of more Waylon songs. Try the Album, The Best of Waylon Jennings from 1978. So many songs really show his vocal talent. After I heard Anita, you're Dreaming when I was 14 years old I became a lifelong fan. My favorite. I love that you appreciate his talent he was one of a kind.
I looked this up on Wikipedia. It comes from the album Waylon Forever. The backing is by rock group the .357's and it was co-produced by his son Shooter Jennings. The album was released after Waylon's death in 2002.
Two songs I think you would enjoy are Dumas Walker, by the Kentucky Headhunters, and the Tractors song Baby Likes To Rock It. Not saying any more about them except that they are fun fun fun.
The original Waylon song is "Don't You Think This Outlaw Bit's Done Got Out Of Hand?" and is a classic Waylon-thumpy-bass-beat song. Listen to the original released in 1978, it's on YT. His son, Shooter Jennings, recorded the background to his father's rework of this song a few years before Waylon passed. The story is true, as others have posted. Shooter is a wonderful musician in his own right.
Waylon’s True Story! This is later in his life. Waylon first sang of this event (Don’t You Think This Outlaw Bit) is a must react to. It was written and recorded shortly after his arrest. It’s a much harder driven song.
Waylon s friend buddy holly was ahead of his time and had his own way too I am a huge fan of both buddy holly and Waylon. Two Texans with massive talent
Waylon, is the man. One of my most favorite singers. Literally cried for days when he passed. Listening to his iconic voice never gets old. I wish they'd come out with a movie about Waylon and Jessie Colter's beautiful love story. It's as great as Johnny and June's love story. And if someone hasn't commented, Johnny Cash and Waylon, very good friends from early on in their careers and they were actually roommates at one time. Here's a better version Live Version: ua-cam.com/video/mav4HhwaTJI/v-deo.htmlsi=TCwcjgfPJlO41LQk this song
I think his original recording "Don't You Think This Outlaw Bit Has Gotten Out of Hand" was a tongue-in-cheek take where Waylon was just being ironic. Clearly, he had been deeply affected by the arrest and hurt also. He had a lot more to say. I'm glad he got to re-work the song and get some angst off his chest.
You need to listen to the Highwayman, from The Highwaymen. Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Kris Kristofferson and Johnny Cash. They are all magnificent in their own rights but together we’re pure magic!!!
I much prefer this one to the original fast paced one. Waylon's (step)grandson, Struggle Jennings, made a rap remix of this under the same title with Yelawolf, roughly 13 years ago before Struggle went to prison. I liked that version too, though I'm not typically a rap fan.
This is not the original ! The first time he released this song it was more of the normal Waylon that we love, up speed, fast tempo, and rocking ! I suggest you give it a try!
This is about the time Waylon had received cocaine in the mail and got arrested. I think that's what they line was it singing through my nose that got me busted by the man
Find the "radio version". I've never heard this dirge style version. Not saying it's bad, but you really need to hear it the way we did when it charted.
They were on the Government’s radar for a long time. The IRS broke Willie to the point that he recorded “the IRS” album to raise funds for himself…even having to hide his beloved guitar, Trigger. Willie rescued hundred’s of abused horses…He was penniless and struggled to even feed his horses.
Never heard this version. The upbeat version is more fun and light hearted while this one seems sadder. The version with his grandson and Creed Fisher is good too.
@BourbonCountryReacts was there 2 bottles in the delivery for this bribe or was it just this bottle? I'm asking because I want to make sure y'all got both bottles.
Hey Keith, in memory of Carlie Robinson, will you guys do a reaction to "You're Not the Best." I promise if it doesn't make you laugh your ass off, I will be terribly surprised.
I think I heard someone say his son Shooter helped produce this version of the song. Don't know if it's true or not. If it is, he did a damn good job in my opinion. Because I think the tone of this version goes way better with the song than the original.
You guys did a Carrie Underwood doing how great tho art go listing to her on Vince Gills tribute in 2022 she does go rest high on that mountain it will blow you away honestly if you like strong female singers this will top them all promise
This song was recorded late in Waylon's career and is a more meloncholy remix of his original version. Waylon in his peak years was a hard partying artist that challenged the Nashville machine and his label RCA by insisting that he be allowed to use his own band rather than studio musicians on his albums. He just wanted his recordings to sound like they did when performed live. In poor health and suffering from diabetes, which caused him to have a foot removed, this song I has always given me the feeling of the sadness of a man mho late in in his life is looking back on his life with some regret. Of the over 300 recordings I have of his songs in my collection this is probably my least favorite. Waylon could cover any song a make it sound great. His versions of songs like Simon and Garfunkles 'The Boxer', Fleetwood Mac's 'Rianna' or 'MacArthur Park' with the Kimberly are some excellent examples. Of his original songs there are so many great ones to to list. A few of my favorites are 'Mental Revenge' 'Cedartown, GA' 'Never Could Toe The Mark' 'This Time' and 'Honky Tonk Blues' just to scratch the surface. Like this song some songs he recorded different versions of over his career. Songs like 'Just To Satisfy You' he recorded with slower and more upbeat versions as well as a duet with Willie Nelson. His duet with Hank Jr on 'The Conversation' a song in tribute to Hank Sr is one of his best. "🎶You know I always love to listen to the stories about that Drifting Cowboy Band, and that man. You know when we get right down to it he's still the most wanted outlaw in the land...🎶
The funny thing is we're all on here telling you No No this is all wrong....Outlaw Bit is so much better! But now that youve heard this version first, you guys may actually lrefer this over the more upbeat song he originally did. I personally love the earlier version from the 70s but to each their own.

"Don't You Think This Outlaw Bit's Done Got out of Hand" is a better upbeat song of his.
Yes yes yes.
Yes, I agree!
Definitely that’s the version you need to hear

Waylon is my favorite country singer of all time! I love Those Kinds of Memories by him. His voice ❤❤
Hope y'all react to Waylon Jennings and Hank Jr the conversation
I agree 👍 that was a great idea 💡.
Waylon s song. Old friend is about buddy holly. I think Waylon never stopped mourning buddy to some degree
I looked this up on Wikipedia. It comes from the album Waylon Forever. The backing is by rock group the .357's and it was co-produced by his son Shooter Jennings. The album was released after Waylon's death in 2002.

Amen to both!

I love this song and I figured you guys would enjoy it also
I never tried the bourbon so I have no Idea what it tastes like this one or the other one I sent
I think his original recording "Don't You Think This Outlaw Bit Has Gotten Out of Hand" was a tongue-in-cheek take where Waylon was just being ironic. I’m not sure if anyone mentioned it but check out his great granddaughter I believe sing her version of this song. Her name is Brianna Harness
You need to listen to the Highwayman, from The Highwaymen. Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Kris Kristofferson and Johnny Cash. They are all magnificent in their own rights but together we’re pure magic!!!
Waylon's Grandson Whey did a version of this song with Creed Fischer that is awsome. It's 100% different than the original but very damm good.
Great job is always
That cork-pop though!
Definitely another version I didn’t even know this one existed. The other is way more upbeat
Struggle Jennings is waylons grandson and his is a bit of a remix rap but Waylon does the chorus
The original version by him was more Waylon like. You would like that version.
Check out his grandson Struggle Jennings - Outlaw Shit with waylon on the chorus
I much prefer this one to the original fast paced one.
Waylon's (step)grandson, Struggle Jennings, made a rap remix of this under the same title with Yelawolf, roughly 13 years ago before Struggle went to prison. I liked that version too, though I'm not typically a rap fan.
Many have never heard this version just the one "Don't you think this outlaw shit's done got out of hand" and it is played completely differently.
This is not the original ! The first time he released this song it was more of the normal Waylon that we love, up speed, fast tempo, and rocking ! I suggest you give it a try!
You'll generally find the original under "Don't you think this outlaw bit's done got out of hand"
This is about the time Waylon had received cocaine in the mail and got arrested. I think that's what they line was it singing through my nose that got me busted by the man
Yep…this ant it
Who claimed it was the original?. The person that made the bribe apparently wanted a reaction to this version.
Find the "radio version". I've never heard this dirge style version. Not saying it's bad, but you really need to hear it the way we did when it charted.

Need to do the original version
Never heard this version. The upbeat version is more fun and light hearted while this one seems sadder. The version with his grandson and Creed Fisher is good too.
If I remember right this was towards the end of his life and Career with the .357s
The .357s is Shooter's band, not Waylon's but they are the backing band on this song.
@@tonfa2thanks for the clarification i want sure if they waylons last band or just shooters band
@@kennethabebdroth8513 np, the whole thing with being produced after Waylon's death makes the Waylon Forever album "complicated" for stuff like that.
@BourbonCountryReacts was there 2 bottles in the delivery for this bribe or was it just this bottle? I'm asking because I want to make sure y'all got both bottles.
The other bottle was Benchmark bottled in bond bourbon
Hey Keith, in memory of Carlie Robinson, will you guys do a reaction to "You're Not the Best." I promise if it doesn't make you laugh your ass off, I will be terribly surprised.
The song is based in actual events newyork swat and narcotics busted waylon for narcotic he didn't have in a studio
I think the original is Outlaw Bit. Much more up tempo
I’ve never heard that version before. It was interesting but I definitely prefer the original.
I think I heard someone say his son Shooter helped produce this version of the song. Don't know if it's true or not.

On your own personal time you should listen to the remake his grandson struggle Jennings did
the original is called don't you think this outlaw bits done got out of hand...its also worth a listen....the live version is best in my opinion.
Maybe the next Waylon song you react to can be, just off the top of my head for some odd reason, maybe "Waymore's Blues"?
WHAT?!?!? Nooooooo!!!! Find the original, no problem with enunciation on that one. Gonna go find it now so I can get the taste of this one gone.
As others have said. The orininal version is much better.
Hey I like this version but the regular version is better

I don't like this version.... Don't you think this outlaw bit has done got out of hand.... much more upbeat.... much more Waylons style.
