I use those same kinds of snaps, but use an arbor press to set them.
I don’t think the change in pressure is a factor. They just would hold no matter what I did, including crimp them manually. The epoxy did the trick though. 👍
I was at a knife show a few years ago, and a maker said " Sheath making is the OTHER half of knife making." I can see why, great video!
Yup, cause if the sheath sucks the knife will banished to a drawer somewhere.
Absolutely true. You sell a knife for $1k+ and people expect a decent sheath. These weren’t that expensive but I still wanted them to look cool!
is there no end to your talent... in medieval times... you'd be the man ! lol
Thanks so much, I appreciate you watching
@@TyrellKnifeworks pleasures all mine, your work never ceases to amaze me,you sir,are a wizard with metal
You are a GENIUS!!!!!! Shame that push daggers are illegal in the U.K. as I’d order a pair!!
beautiful blades. I want to buy them, what do I have to do to get them
Sorry, these are already sold. I don’t take custom orders, I just sell what I make for the channel. I have some knives available on my website, check those out. (Link in the video description). Thanks for watching.
Tip from a leather worker: Polish the outside of your hole punches with your buffing wheel. stops them from sticking in the leather. Also snaps can be finicky about the thickness of material you set them in. My guess on why those snaps came apart is that they were made for cloth and garment weight leather, and didn't have enough post for thicker leather.
Thanks for the tips. I’ve used these snaps before with success but it was a different piece of leather. Maybe this one is ever so slightly thicker. I’m gonna epoxy or crazy glue them from now on. 👍
@@TyrellKnifeworks Even just counter sinking a little more might work. Leather can vary a lot in thickness and compressibility even on the same hide. Those snaps might work fine on leather from the belly or under the front leg on a double shoulder where it is softer and compresses more when you set the snap.
They were countersinked quite a bit, probably to the point it was 5oz leather so I don’t think that’s it. Probably just cheap snaps
@@TyrellKnifeworks That is always a possibility. I have been disappointed by hardware I thought was a good deal myself. If you go looking for something better I prefer Line 24 snaps over those wire snaps. They are sometimes called DOT snaps or durable dots. If you look around you can find them with different post lengths and better materials like stainless steel.
Soooooo I have to ask. Is there anything regarding forging multiple steel layers, etching said blades, tanning, sewing leather, that you can't do??? 😳😉😁👍🏽
Well lots of stuff I have yet to try. I’d really like to do a keyhole handle this year. And of course I have to up the game for the Dagger Challenge. 😜
Beautiful as always. I would not be capable of re-sheathing without killing myself in the process though.
Yeah, it’s not something you do without looking, that’s for sure!
Should've put it on and shown it in action drawing from the back...
Love the knives and the sheath
Yeah, I thought of that but it would be hard to video myself without a cameraman. Thanks for watching!
I really like these sheaths and seeing more of your leatherworking process.
I've ran into snaps wearing out quickly, coming undone on their own, and popping out on a number of projects and pieces I've bought over the years. I've since switched exclusively to using Prymm brand snaps. They're a bit more money but worth every penny in my book. If you press them firmly enough, they'll last a lifetime in whatever you put them on.
Thanks for watching, Sean. I’ll have to look up those snaps.
@@TyrellKnifeworks You should try Fenice leather dye. Their black is so much easier and better looking than Feibings dye. No streaks and is super black in color! It's the only black dye I'll use now.
@@jeffallen3382 I’ll have to try that one. Thanks!
@@TyrellKnifeworks Springfield Leather Company sells it
Those sheaths turned out epic! I would probably have given them some nourishment *before* the carnauba wax though... but I'm pretty close to fetishistic when it comes to leather care so any advice I give is on the order of overkill for most applications :P
Even after the wax it soaks it up well. Thanks for watching
Nice. Do yourself a favour tho and make a tool rack for your stamps, they will get damaged very easily in the box, especialy the brass ones.
They’ve been in there for years with no issues so far. I just don’t have the space for another rack. Thanks though.
Really nice work, but the price is way to low for the amount of work, craftsmanship and quality in my opinion.
I wanted something approachable in price for this build. Thanks for watching!
👍
Thanks for watching, Doris!
I use a product called Neat Lac from Tandy. Once it cures it makes a nice finish on the leather ,and weatherizes it.
I’ll have to check that one out, never heard of it. 👍
I know you don’t do a lot of suggestions because after all it is really tough making knives and once again this is just an idea but it would be siiiccckkk to see the sacrificial dagger from Narnia
I’ll have to take a look at that one.
Your the only person I know that makes good looking Damascus
There are a ton of great makers out there. Checkout Kyle Royer and Salem Straub. They leave me in the dust!
I only have a few words.
Damn cool 🔥👍🏻🙌🏻
Thanks brother! I appreciate you watching!
Pretty cool little rig, one thing I always found with leather sheaths is that its not hugely expensive. But its just time consuming and you sort of end up having to chase down all those million and one little tools which do the one thing only and will make you spend even more time if you don't have them
Yes, it’s easiest to buy one of the cheap sets for $50 to get you started and then upgrade one items you use a lot. Thanks for watching
Nicely done; better than my kydex rig with the techlock. I like!
I might have done kydex but I ran out and I thought the black leather look would be nice for these. Thanks for watching!
Those are cool man...nice job...I like the subtle look of the stamping you did..it's not much but it's enough
My wife keeps telling me to keep it simple on the stamping. 😜. Thanks for watching!
Speaking from experience, they're usually right..lol..but I will deny ever saying that..lol
What size drill did you use to make the stitch holes?
I use a 1/16" drill bit. It seems to be perfect, not too large that two thread widths are loose, not too tight that its super hard to push the needle through. Thanks for watching, Joey!
Good morning
Great explanation, and design
Have a great day
Thanks for checking it out!
I’ve done saddle Stichting and I know how it goes 😎
It’s actually my favorite part of sheath making. Some people hate it but that’s the part I like.
Beautiful craftsmanship Denis!
Thanks for checking it out, Jeff!
Very cool sheaths! They look amazing!
Thanks for checking out the build!
Another flawless victory by the man
Thanks so much! I appreciate you following the channel! 👍
Anytime I honestly can’t get enough of it
How does someone buy some of your knives
All my work goes up for sale to my Patreon members first and then to the public a week later via my website. Thanks for watching
Awesome, 5 Star's !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for checking it out and following along, Jerry!
Made in China snaps are crap 😤😩
Yeah, they sure seem to be. The epoxy fixed them up at least. Thanks for watching, Robert.
When you did the final fit up I litterly mouthed "Wooow"....quite professional work sir...In the beginning of the video when I saw you using the snaps I was like I'm totally going to get those and then at the end I was like Eh hahaha ... can't wait for the next video!
I’ll be sure to epoxy or crazy glue them together from now on! Thanks for watching, Xavier!
I like that set up. Nicely done.
Thanks!
@@TyrellKnifeworks most welcome
Interesting construction for the sheath(s).
Had the same issue with cheap snaps, guess what? The expensive ones also have the same issue.
Funny thing, I’ve used these same snaps in other builds with no issues. Guess I’ll either epoxy or crazy glue them from now on. Thanks for watching!
When are you going to finish the elvish short sword?
It’s still ongoing. The next installment will be next Sunday. I’m just at the point where I have to slog through the hand-sanding before I can start the guard so not enough footage for this week. I think it’ll be another 3 or 4 episodes at least. It’s a complicated build.
@@TyrellKnifeworks Looking forward to it! Your work is amazing. Makes me want to give it a try. My 7 year old son watches all of your videos with me. We love them.
@@brianswope2816 that is very cool! It’s a great hobby to do with your son when he’s a little bit older.
Denis, great demonstration video on basic leatherworking. Years ago I used snap buttons and grommets that were made for canvas boat covers because they were heavy duty (grommets would not separate). Harder to find now ... epoxy a viable solution. Thanks for the share ... beautiful, simple, functional design.
Thanks for checking out the build, Byron!
Line 24 snaps work better but the base stem isn't really long enough for 7oz plus leather. I found that you can buy a lo ger post base no more problems
The sheaths turned out pretty nice! Tandy makes decent snaps, I always use them.
I’ll have to check those out. Thanks for watching.
Very nice!👍🔥
Thanks so much, Damon!

Beautiful!
Thanks for taking a look.
SO nice.

What do you charge for feather damascus blanks?
Sorry, I don’t sell billets or blanks. I make knives for UA-cam and sell those only. Thanks for watching.
@@TyrellKnifeworks I get it believe me I don't have most of the tools you do ,but I'm making damascus ,just not able to control the pattern bc I don't have a press any ideas on some pattern I can do without a press ?
@@kyarmwrestlingcr1115 The easiest patterns without a press are (besides random), ladder, twist and raindrop. My first recommendation is start with thin stock like 1/8". That way you have more layers in your stack to start with. Don't go too big either. Keep your stack no more than 1" so it's easier to hammer. That way you can do 8 layers, and by doing a 4-piece restack, you're already at 32 layers. That's enough for a ladder or twist. Raindrop really needs closer to 100 to look good. I hope that helps.
Very much thank an thanks for the vids I made a 20 ton press today with nuematic foot switch now just to make some squaring dyes!! Thanks again
@@kyarmwrestlingcr1115 wow, that was quick. I hope it works out for you! 👍
Excellent idea great execution nicely done
Thanks David! I appreciate you watching
