Thank you for the schematic representation of the layers it helps me understand better how Damascus patterns are made 👍🏿
I’m glad the graphics are helpful. Thanks for watching!
Totally agree I think more people should do this 👍
@@TyrellKnifeworks what will it cost to make me a custom short sord? Please im very interested?
@@melvincoetzee4151 I just answered your email with the same response. Sorry but I’m not taking custom orders, particularly repeats of other blades I’ve done. This is just a hobby and I focus mostly on UA-cam. I have a day job so don’t have the time to also take on custom orders.
@@TyrellKnifeworks bro you're blades are something else, especially the copper Damascus. Make money for yourself instead of someone else, and enjoy life in the process. You can easily make a very comfortable amount a month just from 2-3 copper damascus blades.
Ahhh Yes! This was epic. Huge congrats Tyrell, all looks stunning
Thanks for checking. it out Gader! I'm excited to see what eeryone brings to the next one!
I've spent a lot of time on the blacksmithing part of UA-cam and this unquestionably one of the most beautiful damascus patterns I have ever seen. Something about the sharp contrasts of black and white with this particular pattern really make this piece pop. Truly a work of art.
Thanks so much! I appreciate you taking a look.
you blow my mind with every build that you do, this is one impressive blade, good on you. you can count on my vote!
Definitely check out all the builds. Thanks for watching, Tony!
This is beyond. What a beautiful dagger, wow.
Thanks so much! I appreciate you checking it out!
The part that was damaged falls under the category “the artist is the only one that knows where the flaws are”. How long did it take to make this ? The work, attention to detail & symmetry is incredible!! Good luck w/the challenge!!
I lost count but around 60 hours in this build I think. Thanks for watching, Mark!
That dagger is absolutely incredible!
Thanhs so much, Robert! Please check out all the videos and vote! 👍
Absolutely amazing!! Loved every second of seeing this beauty take shape! I am in awe of all the subtle details you put in. Very very impressive work! Rooting for you to win 🏆
Thanks Johannes! Be sure to checkout all the builds, they are all incredible!
The monochrome model showing the damascus detail is brilliant.
I’m happy the graphics are helpful. Thanks for watching!
This is a stunning piece of functional art. The contrast is spectacular. But all of that was overshadowed when you had to tell Molly to stop barking … that right there was gold!!
She’s cute but a barker for sure! Thanks for watching!
Wow. First time watching this channel and I don't think I've seen this level of mastery of a skill on all of YT. Kudos, incredible piece of art.
Welcome to the channel, Dmitry! Thanks for watching!
The absolute thought, planning, stacking and final pattern is what made this dagger a winner and won my vote!!!!!
Thanks so much, Jeffrey! I appreciate you watching and voting!
Everything you make has Elegance to it! Great job overcoming those obstacles. Dagger is awesome and the pattern really pops. 👌🏻🔥
Thanks, Spencer! I’m thrilled to have you in this challenge! It’ll shoot you your numbers for sure. 👍
That's an impressive blade. Love the graphics of how the patterns look while being forge welded.
Thanks for watching this build, Jason!
@@TyrellKnifeworks impressive, and amazing skills.
Your blades beautiful and very precise . Your work is next level.
Thanks so much, Jeremy! I appreciate you watching
WOW! That thing is amazing. As usual, you did not disappoint!!!
Thanks so much, Mike!
All my favorite channels made such amazing entries!
You guys have made my job of choosing VERY difficult this time!
Lots of amazing builds this time for sure! 👍
I absolutely loved this video, but what I appreciate even more than your craftsmanship and skill is that you didn’t just skip over the chipped piece but you specifically called it out, that’s real humility there. Excellent blade sir
Everyone seems to think it looks better afterwards... lol! Thanks for watching!
@@TyrellKnifeworksI get what they mean, but I think what you were originally going for looked awesome too! Love your copper wave Damascus katana, just watched that video yesterday and one day I hope to be able to make things similar to that!
Stunning. Black Beauty..... Thanks for showing and highlighting mistakes and design changes.
I call this one NightShade. It had its issues like any build, but came together nicely I think. Thanks for watching!
Yeah so this wins if we're talking craftsmanship and beauty of the finished piece and I'm going to assume those are the parameters. I mean, it's hands down... You won.
And holy hell your craftsmanship is second to none, that is not just calculating things and getting it done in a way where your know how makes all the difference, that is knowing the poetry of materials. I'm so thoroughly impressed that I am at a loss for words.
Thanks so much, Michael! This dagger did indeed win. Thanks for watching the build.
Amazing build! That might be my new favorite of your builds. The dark theme just pops!
Yeah I’m a sucker for the dark blades myself. I call this one “NightShade”. 👍. Thanks for watching.
another stunning build!! wow one of the most beautiful knives that came from your shop!
Thanks so much, Gil! I appreciate you taking a look.
Wow it turn out incredible. I love the pattern 😍 the contrast between black and white is so nice 👍
Thanks for watching, Alizeh!
at 1:02 in... you have officially captured my brain.... that roll open door on your forge is genius!
It is the best door construction I've even used. Thanks for watching!
You sir are gifted beyond the comprehension of many. Amazing work, just stunning. Thank you for bringing us along for the creation of thus masterpiece!
Thanks so much for checking out the build!
A real bummer that point near the ricasso broke off, that looked really nice. But nevertheless a fantastic piece of art. Thanks for working so hard to put this competition together!
Thanks, Sven! I love that you’ve moved from viewer to participant! 👍
@@TyrellKnifeworks me too 😄👌🏻
It is incredible how you are able to mentally keep track of what is happening with the layers through all those steps!! I had no idea it was so difficult to achieve these patterns! The graphics you provide really help a lot, I can imagine what is going on. I didn't realize forge men could create these patterns with real metal like this! I used to think they just carved in patterns afterwards or something, but the steal was solid blocks. It is so much more satisfying to realize that they are true metals running through there. Amazing video please keep making them, I really love your stuff.
Thanks for checking out the build. I’m glad the graphics help you. The shark is up at the ricasso right above the guard. Thanks for watching
I hope you love this dagger build, it sure was fun doing it! VOTE here: forms.gle/sVqrERDBwdCi5L9E7
Hey, so I hear that you say quillion. I just wanted to point out that it's actually spelt and pronounced "Quillon." No 'ion' at the end. It _can_ be spelt that way, but it's less common. I've also heard a lot of other black smiths say quillion as well. I'm currently working on a book, and I used the word. It tried to auto correct it, and so, curious, I looked it up and was surprised to find that it was spelt quillon.
And whether you say quillion, or quillon, it doesn't change the fact that that is an absolutely beautiful blade. Keep up the great work dude.
@@liquid24 yeah, I know it’s pronounced more like “key-own” dagger. It just sounds a bit pretentious like that. 😜. Kind of like how Americans pronounce foyer improperly but it becomes the norm. (Pronounced “fwhy-ay” not “foy-er”)
@@liquid24 It's just anglicised because the French accent sounds incredibly weird to pronounce to a non-French speaking person. I can speak more French than any other language bar English but I absolutely cannot do the accent without feeling like I'm making a complete muppet of myself.
No disrespect for any of the other builds or the smith's who made them, but in my opinion you out did every dagger by far not even in the same league.
@@Fambamm-ib6pw When I looked at the doc, I thought the same thing. Like, yeah, the rest of them were amazing and all, but Tyrell's was just _on_ _another_ _level_
Dude, that's amazing! Beautiful work!
Thanks for checking it out, Dan!

I watched your vid before you sent it off. Congrats on receiving the recognition your excellence deserves. Loved the art while you were making it...pleased it was noticed by the Challenge for the beauty it is.
Thanks so much! I appreciate you watching
Just when I think you can't top the craftmanship of your previous knives, you go and make something as incredible as this. That patterning is gorgeous!
Thanks so much, Dan! I appreciate you checking it out. 👍
Oh my gosh! It just shot out when I saw the finished product…absolutely beautiful, sir…well done. Fit for nobility or royalty.
Thanks so much, Carlos! I appreciate you watching!
While the little "points" did look good, but getting that one side broke off, then grinding it all in a curve to match, I think I like the final product better. BUT, that's why they make Fords 'n Chevys:). Tyrell, I wish to say a THANK YOU!! for all your work with these videos - I've learned a bunch from watching you work. I really like your copper work and have done a couple of CuMai blades and one Copper Damascus billets. Thank you.
Thanks so much, Ken! It was a bummer at first when the flare broke off but everyone seems to like it better without it. Send me some pics of your knives for Viewer Knives! (tyrellknifeworks at gmail)
It actually took my breath away, it was so stunning! I’ve never seen Damascus steel with such incredible contrast. Sorry that I’m so late to the table; I’d have voted for you without question. Amazing work, truly amazing.
Thanks so much, Curtis! I appreciate you checking out the build. 👍
The graphics showing the layers of the billet were extremely informative in helping me understand how the Damazene process works, I am often frustrated when watching these forging videos and the smiths jump cut from part of the billet process to another and I, a mere pleb watching the video, can't determine why its done in that way, this really helped me understand the process much better, thank you.
I’m glad the graphics are helpful! Thanks for watching!
beautiful dagger and pattern,i love wire wrapped handle and that pommel
Thanks for checking it out, Vladimir!
At first I was thinking, why in gods name would anyone use a mild steel with such a build, but then you did the salt thing and remembered not to question professionals. Tell me more about that salt water boil or whatever rapid patina you did. The whole build is amazing from start to finish and the ability to adapt to any curveballs is the mark of a true master craftsman.
I have an upcoming video that dives deep into hot salts and how to use them to get different finishes. Thanks for watching!
Holy cow! You are truly gifted. Beautiful as always. 😍
Thanks so much, Kimberly! I appreciate that
I've gotta say man, I've watched hundreds of hours of knife and sword makers videos. Of course your work is fantastic but it's the information I find better than any other channels, you're the first maker I've seen who puts a graphic next to you forging explaining and showing exactly what all the movements are actually doing. It's one thing to watch a blade of Damascus being forged but I've never known or been told what all the turns such are doing to the pattern. Very cool!!! It goes without saying the knife came out absolutely fantastic! The word grail gets thrown around far to often, one of your knives is the definition of a grail for me!
I do try to make sure you do learn something from it. Understanding is knowledge. 😉. Thanks for watching
Dude this is great and I really appreciate the graphics of the layers as you work. Instant new subscriber
I’m glad the graphics are helpful! Thanks for watching!
Haven't watched all the builds but seen all the pics and your work just blows me away! The entries are all beautiful in their own style but yours just has a classical elegance that I love. I don't really know the first thing about it technically but I'm so moved by the process and the finished product is just astonishing.
Thanks so much, Bob! I think the quillion dagger is the most elegant of blades and there’s a reason it’s a requirement for the ABS Mastersmith test. 👍
Great watching a master at work. I do enjoy watching videos like this. I live in the UK and I can't see myself ever having a go at something like this myself but I find it fascinating.
Thanks for checking out this build, Lee!
@@TyrellKnifeworks I see this is an older video, how did you get on with the Challenge?
@@leet9002 This dagger did indeed win that challenge. 😉
I’m speechless at the end result!! That is an EPIC piece of art mate!!!! 👊🏻👊🏻
Thanks for watching this build. The Quillion dagger is probably my favorite knife.
Oh wow, that's a really striking design! Beautiful dagger!
Thanks for taking a look!

I think this and Kyle Royer's Serenity daggers are my 2 favourites of recent times. Absolutely incredible work. That blade is a fantastic contrast to such a classically styled bottom half. Superb!
If you haven’t seen my ocean sunset dagger, check that one out. It’s my favorite build I’ve done. Thanks for watching.
Absolutely beautiful. Good enough to present to royalty as a gift. An excellent example of true craftsmanship.

I'm happy the graphics help you visual what's going on. Thanks for watching!
THANK YOU
this was a joy to watch the graphs really helped with understanding how the patterns are made
I will not say this is the best knife I have seen because your copper damascus bowie knife edge it for me by a hair what can I say I am a sucker for that copper on steel contrast.
truly thank you for making this videos you are inspiring me to make something beautiful like this tho I still can't imagen my self doing anything like this but even so knowing that this level of craftsmanship exist make me happy

That strikes a perfect balance of cool and pretty, really well done.
Thanks for checking it out! Be sure to watch all the builds and vote!
not to take anything away from the other challengers, but you sir are in a league of your own.
Thank you, I appreciate you watching!
The blades you create are stunning works of art. The marriage of dazzling beauty and strong effective weaponry is incredible. Seems silly to call you a journeyman, the expertise you show, instruction given to neophyte smiths in your videos, and contribution to the community denote a master’s touch. I know it is a matter of time and I respect the terms codified by the ABS, but in my mind, sir, you are a master.
Thanks so much, Jesse! I still have a ways to go to be at the MS level, but I appreciate the sentiment.
Your very educational. I’m hoping to make a dagger for my dad for his birthday coming up. Your videos are helping tremendously with that. So thank you very much

Thanks for putting this competition together. I watched each build with awe. To see the different methods and style of each smith to make outstanding Daggers. It was a very hard choice. It came down to fit and finish + the overall look. I only wish i could have hefted each one. Great job. you have my vote. Congrats to all on some fantastic builds !!
Thanks for watching all the builds, that’s the real win!
Truly incredible.. what a masterpiece, a legendary dagger if I ever saw one. Im seeing this video in my recommendations much later so I can only imagine you won this challenge lol. I’ll have to check out the competitor’s pieces for fun but this work of art is simply stunning, bravo!
Thanks for checking out this build! It did indeed win the challenge.
Wow this may sound strange but I'm getting some major Deja vu right now. The reason I say that, is because I have imagined and drawn a similar style pattern and cross guard, for a fantasy sword of my own design, for a yet to be written book haha. I wish I could show the drawing, but can't post images here, it was drawn before I had seen this video. This dagger has helped further visualise what my sword could look like irl, man its cool how advanced smithing has become, you would never see a pattern like this in the past. Things one could only imagine previously, brought to life via skill and technology.
You should definitely checkout the dagger build I just posted on Saturday. It’s even more impressive I think. Thanks for watching.
probably the most beautiful dagger I've ever seen in my life
