I agree. My first AR I got years ago was carbine length and I was fine with it until I got another that was mid length and noticed how punchy the carbine length is in comparison. So I bought another mid length BCM upper on sale and threw it on that lower. The original was a cheaper Aero so it was definitely an upgrade.
Two years ago I bought a Radical Firearms AR with near- identical configuration but unlike my Bushmaster Patrolman, turned out too muzzle heavy for my liking. I hope the S&W has a slimmer barrel.
I like many budget ARs. Palmetto state armory, radical firearms, diamondback, bear creek arsenal, etc. S&W is ok. Don't know if it's worth the extra cash over the others I mentioned.
The Sabre comes with a CHF FN barrel, some options have a mid and pistol length adjustable gas system, their lowers have hyperfire triggers, pistol grips, Radian charging handless, a whole bunch of different offers starting at 850-1150.
@@zachmasters7397 Only the Nitride barrels are under $900 and that’s the same finish as the Smith & Wesson. If you want the CHF PSA you’re talking over $900 for a rifle that’s not as proven as Smith. I’ve seen a few poor WC Sabres. Ruger is fine to be fair but Smith has always had better quality and finish on all their weapons. It’s like M&P pistols Vs Ruger pistols. No one is arguing that Ruger is better quality. The ARs are no different. Not sure what the obsession is with folks and CHF or chrome lined barrels but Armanite Is plenty sufficient. Remember Smiths are not budget rifles. It seems larpers mainly have the sentiment that they are.
@@vlogmoor I agree with most of what you said, there's nothing wrong with M&P, I have an M&P shield plus and it's one of my favorite edc's, you couldn't go wrong with S&W M&P or the Ruger AR-556 at the price point, both companies have great QC, I'm just a fan of CHF barrels for their longevity, FN's barrel is combat certified, I'd take the M&P over the basic PSA setup, yet I'd take the Sabre line with the FN CHF barrel, with that being said I wouldn't trust PSA quality control right out of the box, I take apart and put blue loctite on all the set screws and make sure everything is torqued to spec on PSA builds.

Thanks for the review on Sport III and good overview of S II and the Tactical. I can only find two similar reviews of the Volunteer. It has the barrel of the original Sport, carbine gas system and upgraded furniture (B5) and seems to be overlooked. I see Volunteers now on sale lower than the Sport 2 and 3. Caught in the middle and passed off as not the value and not enough performance? At $550 on sale now. Thoughts? Am i missing something? Which do you think would be the better value of the three?

i found a m&p sport 3 at my local pawn shop brand new in the box for $800 i had to get it i had the sport 2 but foolishly sold it i will not be selling my sport 3 it's a quality well put together rifle and yes i know the gucci rifle lover will bash an m&p but as long as my sport 3 goes bang every time i pull the trigger and hits what i'm aiming at then it's all good in my eyes and you gucci gun lovers can keep blowing thousands on your gucci guns i could care less
I did the same thing. Bought the sport 3 and added Magpul stock, grip, sling, and flip up sights. Added Sig Romeo 5(Left iron sights on Sport 2) and Odin Olight. Love it. I do miss the A2 front on Sport 2. S&W needs to sell it with sights. I didn’t mind adding to it, but it wasn’t as cheap as my Sport 2. Paid $498 in 2019. Sport 3 was $724 with all fees with just a mag and no sights. After everything added, it was a little under $1300 for everything. I’ll never sell this one. I officially have 3, soon to be 4, guns that I won’t sell or get rid of. M&P has been great for me. Never had an issue.

i have the sport 2 it was my first rifle i put some cash in 2 it i am confident if shtf that it will hold up I'm saving up for a psa truck gun and i want to build a 308 from the ground up as a end of the world gun but smith and Wesson make some quality reliable products i will always consider them. peace
The upper looks exactly like my bravo company 20 inch 1/7 twist with that exact 15 inch rail and mlock system. The barrel on mine is chrome lined, mid gas system as well.

@@fullmindstorm the mcmr handguard is much better than this one. It has a more solid attachment to the barrel nut. The BCM barrel is also better. 4150 vs 4140 for the s&w.
@@vlogmoor Its a heavy barrel, the heat on the barrel isnt that bad when I'm shooting taking into consideration I live in Arizona and everything metal is always hot in the first place.

@vlogmoor Yeah, I really like the SPORT series over other rifles. I mean, they are more than capable for self-defense needs, etc. All the high-priced guns are nice, don't get me wrong. But at this point, with technology, there is only so much you can do with guns. All firearms will do the same thing and that is take down threats and animals for food. The high price stuff is purely marketing and want. M&P SPORT series is for me
@vlogmoor4992 CHF barrels will last way longer, if I wanted the most accuracy I'd get a 516 stainless steel cheap barrel, yet run a couple hundred rounds on full auto and the barrels toast, an CHF FN barrel is made for running full auto, I'll take 2 moa over 1 moa if my barrels going to last 5x longer.

Better than my 3k AR and I agree with you 100%! It is a sleeper gun that didn’t get a lot of attention for sure. I picked up mine 6 weeks ago and have put in close to 2,000 rounds so far with zero issues.
IMO the M&P sport 2 barrel was a downgrade to the sport 1's barrel. Also 1:8 twist is perfect for the common man as 1:8 does really well with the most common weight bullet most of us use (being 55gr). The Sport 3's barrel profile is a light to medium profile style barrel, giving it a great balance of weight and thickness. The Ruger AR556 has been pretty much the direct competitor the the M&P Sport series of rifles for years and looking at the Sport 3 it pretty much beats the Ruger AR 556 out of the water by just the fact that the AR 556 has this tiny short handguard and still weighs about 0.2 pounds more ,costs more and is carbine gas length compared to the Sport 3 with it's Midlength gas system.
@@kevinhullinger8743 I absolutely agree. The only thing I notice that I wish they did was make the barrel as thick as the Sport 2. I don’t think it’ll affect the longevity too much but the sport 2 did have a thick barrel

What’s interesting to me is SW purchased Thompson Center some time ago and really did nothing with the brand however, Thompson made excellent 5R barrels and mastered the process. I am thinking now maybe this is why SW purchased Thompson Center? SW sold the Thompson center brand recently as well. There are huge benefits of 5R barrels.
@@kevinhullinger8743 Funny thing about you mentioning Thompson Center Compass TC is I have one of those rifles. Very accurate. I can see why my Sport 3 is so accurate. It does perplex me as to why they used 5R rifling in the sport 1 and 3 but not 2.

3 yrs ago I searched for the S&W AR, but all I could find was a Springfield Saint. I bought it. I don't regret it.

If you're going to go for a less expensive name brande get the Rugger AR-556, it has a CHF barrel for the dame price as the S&W

Would you recommend this over building one? In my case Aero lower, BCM upper.
@@SOStv718 It’s hard to argue with a BCM upper. You could also get the Sport 3 with a BCM bolt carrier group and probably get the same result

@@1203BoYzz It’s a rail heat cover by magpul. It’s to keep your hands cool. This rail gets extremely hot firing it consistently after 200 rounds.

i have the sport 2 it was my first rifle i put some cash in 2 it i am confident if shtf that it will hold up I'm saving up for a psa truck gun and i want to build a 308 from the ground up as a end of the world gun but smith and Wesson make some quality reliable products i will always consider them. peace
The upper looks exactly like my bravo company 20 inch 1/7 twist with that exact 15 inch rail and mlock system. The barrel on mine is chrome lined, mid gas system as well.
Mid length gas tube on a 20 inch barrel?
@@darlsbarkley3493 My bad, I even checked and measured just to be sure its rifle lenght. The upper I'm talking about is MK2 Standard 20" Complete Upper Receiver w/ MCMR-15 Handguard from bravo company.
@@fullmindstorm Question bud, how have you dealt with the rapid heat accumulation of the Mlok on your BCM? I have mitigation efforts on my Sport 3 but I just wonder i how it is for you.
@@fullmindstorm the mcmr handguard is much better than this one. It has a more solid attachment to the barrel nut. The BCM barrel is also better. 4150 vs 4140 for the s&w.
@@vlogmoor Its a heavy barrel, the heat on the barrel isnt that bad when I'm shooting taking into consideration I live in Arizona and everything metal is always hot in the first place.

@vlogmoor Yeah, I really like the SPORT series over other rifles. I mean, they are more than capable for self-defense needs, etc. All the high-priced guns are nice, don't get me wrong. But at this point, with technology, there is only so much you can do with guns.
All firearms will do the same thing and that is take down threats and animals for food. The high price stuff is purely marketing and want.

@@bobbye7353 The barrel is a Armenite finish. It’s actually better than chrome lining because it’s more accurate.
@vlogmoor4992 CHF barrels will last way longer, if I wanted the most accuracy I'd get a 516 stainless steel cheap barrel, yet run a couple hundred rounds on full auto and the barrels toast, an CHF FN barrel is made for running full auto, I'll take 2 moa over 1 moa if my barrels going to last 5x longer.

M&P It’s a great entry level AR but I’d argue the IWI is a better rifle for the money.

For what the 2 costs and what the 3 costs it’s not much of an upgrade. If the 3 had magpul furniture it’d be a little better.

Better than my 3k AR and I agree with you 100%! It is a sleeper gun that didn’t get a lot of attention for sure. I picked up mine 6 weeks ago and have put in close to 2,000 rounds so far with zero issues.

IMO the M&P sport 2 barrel was a downgrade to the sport 1's barrel. Also 1:8 twist is perfect for the common man as 1:8 does really well with the most common weight bullet most of us use (being 55gr). The Sport 3's barrel profile is a light to medium profile style barrel, giving it a great balance of weight and thickness. The Ruger AR556 has been pretty much the direct competitor the the M&P Sport series of rifles for years and looking at the Sport 3 it pretty much beats the Ruger AR 556 out of the water by just the fact that the AR 556 has this tiny short handguard and still weighs about 0.2 pounds more ,costs more and is carbine gas length compared to the Sport 3 with it's Midlength gas system.
@@Jarrow13 I do wish the barrel was thicker on the sport 3 but yes it’s incredibly light and I’m sure will hold up fine.

@@vlogmoor agree, it would be nice if SW offered a heavy barrel option. What’s interesting to me is SW purchased Thompson Center some time ago and really did nothing with the brand however, Thompson made excellent 5R barrels and mastered the process. I am thinking now maybe this is why SW purchased Thompson Center? SW sold the Thompson center brand recently as well. There are huge benefits of 5R barrels.
@@kevinhullinger8743 Funny thing about you mentioning Thompson Center Compass TC is I have one of those rifles. Very accurate. I can see why my Sport 3 is so accurate. It does perplex me as to why they used 5R rifling in the sport 1 and 3 but not 2.

@@Grimdegn I’ll be honest, although I think Ruger’s qc is going to be good when it comes to getting you a good rifle, I think S&W has always come out with better products. I’d stick with anything M&P. Just get a good quality BCG and you’re good.

Ive had my rifle almost 7 yrs,not a trace of rust or wear,i have a bad boy release button,and a rubber hand grip,magoul stocks,just basic,,i would put her up against the high dollar rifles,,anyday,,,i plain out love my s&w,,,i see it in your eyes too
