If you're after a pocket hole jig, the trend one is ACE, the one I used in this video amzn.to/31qNWgm You can even use the remaining parts of the jig and use them as a mini pockehole jig.... they are currently going for great prices too as people are starting to stock the new Pro jig, and thus are clearing stock of the older models! So you could actually have both for about £50 and a bit of work.... LOL!
The original jig is really well made - it's actually lasted me about 10 years as a pocket hole jig, the rest is basically cutting a length of plastic and metal, then drilling and tapping a couple of holes..... as long as they line up, there's not really accuracy needed!
AWESOME!!! I actually never liked the keg ones.... I had one a few years ago, and it used to shed bits of blue plastic every few holes, it never lasted very long....I think they're the only people that still use plastic for their jigs. all the ones coming out now, UJK/TREND/TRITON - even silver line use aluminium...... but that said, if it works, then go with it! if it aint broke and all that! :-)
thanks andy! yeah it work pretty well! I was going to take it to makers central, but chris fisher said we could borrow his, so i didn't need to in the end!
Thanks David! yeah, it's pretty simple.... it could easily be done with just the toggle clamp, had i not had the other pocketful jig, I would have just got a toggle clamp!
Hi Richard, You have to know how to improvise, which did quite well in this one. I didn't know exactly what you making until the end as I've never made a pen like that. I think the plastic "casting" trick could be quite useful. Thanks for the video! -mike
Thanks for watching Mike! I was actually pretty happy that the casting worked as Iwasnt sure it would.... since it was an odd imperial thread, it was probably the riskiest part of the whole thing, but yeah it could definetly translate to other areas, hold down clamps and the like...
Looks great, all I need is a new pocket hole jig. As I need to get a pen press at some point.

Nice one! Great reuse for the tool!
Yeah I actually love it.. I thought i might need to lengthen the press handle, but it's fine even as it is!
Nice job richard. Nice way to reuse a redundant item.
Better than it taking up valuable space! at least now it can justify it's staying around! LOL!
What a really well made jig! all my stuff is just bodged together 👍 😊

Nice one Richard, I'm still using my Kreg pocket hole jig as a pen press
