Steins;Gate : the Butterfly Effect
Вставка
- Опубліковано 7 сер 2024
- I have tried very hard to avoid any obvious spoilers for those who don't know the story yet. This means that I couldn't talk in detail about some important themes that happen later into the game, without having to give away major plot details. I hope you still enjoy my overview of the Steins;Gate world and what it means to me.
I discovered today an excellent video called "Steins;Gate Unlocked" on the channel Beyond Ghibli: • Steins;Gate Unlocked
I enjoyed it very much and do recommend it!
Just in case you think this is an odd coincidence (it is - but then, lots of videos have been made about Steins;Gate) - I've been working on my video the last 3 weeks. 😎
Time Stamps:
00:00 Intro
01:20 The game: LE and history
06:35 Makise Kurisu figure
07:50 Is Steins;Gate "slow"?
09:40 the Butterfly Effect (Chaos Theory)
10:05 Mayuri figure
11:55 The other Steins;Gate games
14:30 Steins;Gate Elite limited edition
15:18 The anime
16:10 The ScienceAdventure series
16:38 Why is SG important to me?
Steins;Gate is rated M (Mature 17+) by the ESRB. My video is therefore NOT suitable for children as per the COPPA legislation.

Haha yes. It's wonderful to see older people willing to engage with new media. I've always been disappointed with how many older people just choose not to engage with new media on such a deep level.
@@marfin4325 I mean it’s not wrong.
@@Bobbias Sometimes it's for the simple but also complex reason that the older generation sometimes have a hard time relating to what we watch regularly or at least think they do.
Yes, but she's also just one person
Never did I ever imagine myself watching an elderly woman reviewing one of my favorite anime (or visual novel in this case). Man, it's strangely nice to see people from a different generation enjoying anime. I love all this!
Thank you.
And she's the best!
The collection tho, damn

Thank you. I'm just being the way I am, enjoying what I do.
I am extremely happy to know that a senior lady can enjoy such an amazing story like steins; gate, dispite it having a very otaku atmosphere that just hardcore anime fans may even try to dive into. It is really cool seeing you wear you Kurisu t shirt; she is best girl.
I hope some day you try and make a spoilers review of the story so we can hear your thoughts on it.
Yes, I will consider doing that. There is just so much to talk about with S;G.
Stein's gate has an appeal which is very X-files. It would be a compatible fit if it was included into the X-files universe.
@@Food4Dogs I appreciate your spirit
Yes, seconded.

This channel is such a gem.
You can say that again.🖤
Someone replied to this comment and I remembered it was here, so I'd like to add that I played Steins;Gate because of this video and absolutely LOVED it. 9/10 easy.
I am thrilled to hear this.

You give me hope for the future. I am a father of a young child and I struggle greatly with feeling insecure about my nerdy tendencies but you give me strength not to shy away from what makes me happy and to encourage my son to do the same. Thank you so much for your content you are a blessing to us all!
Dude, if there is anyone that can bond with their kid it's people like you, don't let that side go to waste when it can help you so much. I'd rather have had a dad like you than one that forced me to grow up before I could enjoy being a kid. Well, I'm catching up now.
don’t be ashamed try to muster courage up and move forward with your kid as long as you treat with good care you are making sweet memories over something where both of you can be passionate about and that’s all that matters :)
i love it when people have that nerdy side :)
Be yourself so your son will learn it's okay for him to do it too
This is so cool, steins gate was one of the best visual novels I ever played
I'm so glad you checked it out and feel the same way as I do! Amazing novel indeed
Yes!! I haven't played the VN, but I have seen the anime several times. And it's absolutely brilliant. Can't say I'm surprised it would be your favorite, but I'm happy it is!
You should totally play it! Even if you're already familiar with the main plot, there are so much content that you're missing from the VN, being able to make your own choice also changes the whole experience and I personally enjoy the VN's thrills more.
@@ErgonomicDesk this series is still good when i rewatch it for 5 time,so play the vn with new experience is good idea
@@ErgonomicDesk yeah honestly I was blown away in the VN. The nature of trying to convince elements from the different endings into a single cohesive storyline does hurt the show just a little bit. It's still an excellent adaptation, but the VN just feels a bit more natural. And man some of the endings really hit hard.
The whole Science Adventure series is beautiful and incredible.
It is my favorite of all time. I watch it at least one time per year since 2013.
Thank you for addressing the "slow" part of Steins;Gate, I'm always upset when I see "steins gate fans" proclaimed that their favourite anime is steins;gate without appreciating the prologue.
For me personally, I wouldn't have got hooked if it weren't for the initial world line change. It was so intriguing and it just got better after that, how they discovered new things after recovering the IBN-5100, the D-Mail, literally just everything was great. It was such a great experience for me as someone who likes time travel theories like this with a solid science backing.
100% agreed. It hurts my heart everytime I read someone recommending another person to "power through" the first part of the anime u.u
Yeah, I've heard similar critiques for the anime (which is the only version I'm familiar with). I really enjoyed the first few episodes, and in fact, felt the last few episodes were rushed. I did approach it like a slice of life mixed with sci fi sort of deal because the humor and characters were what pushed me to watch it.
Exactly! 👍
i’ve only seen the anime but i don’t understand why people say this, i was hooked from the very first episode as soon as there was that moment of confusion from kurisu recognising okabe
@@laurenb6793 Yes - that is such a crucial moment! 👍
This is how I imagine the future of internet to be more and more like. A place where everyone is involved, not just the younger generation.
Thanks for sharing your passion with us :)
El Psy Kongroo. This video makes me very happy
Steins;Gate is such a good series, I've played the visual novels and watched the anime. When I first came across it, its art style really caught my eye but it felt little too slow for my liking but I'm glad I later gave it a second chance, it ended up becoming one of my favourite visual novels!
I'm guessing you didn't get past the first 5 episodes or so the first time? I didn't notice it at first, but the way they spend those first episodes seeing things up and introducing characters is a bit slow. But I think it's also what as some of the heart to the story. You get to know Okabe's life before things really go sideways, building up a sense of connection with his friend group.
As expected of Rohan-sensei
yea i ended up doing the same thing the beginning is REAL slow
There is also a *lot* of information and clues being seeded in that first half; all leading to the "heart of the stor" as you say.
@@Food4Dogs yep!!! I watched the show again right after I watched it the first time and the first 4-5 episodes were so crazy to watch because you could see all of the stuff that you wouldn’t understand if you didn’t see it before! For example in episode 1 when Okabe is seeing Kuriso dead in the closet you can see the D-mail he gets that’s just a static video bc it’s not available to him yet!

You're an amazing lady, and you have a very cultured channel. Thank you :)
If you like steins gate then you might like the zero escape/Nonary games series
Nice to see that anyone can appreciate this masterpiece old or young. More people need to know how awesome this franchise is
As an (officially) Middle-aged woman, who has been into cartoons, anime, and video games since the 80's, you are an inspiration to me. I am a teacher and my students LOVE that I love a lot of the stuff that they do. I do foresee myself being much like you when I'm retired and have even MORE time to enjoy all these things that we love. I LOVE Steins;Gate. The Anime was brilliant, just incredibly well-done. Both in Japanese AND the English (I have watched the anime series a handful of times). One of my top-ten all-time favorites. Sounds like I might need to play the visual novel!
I love your urging the audience to PAY MORE ATTENTION. The details are indeed EVERYWHERE. Steins;Gates is a prime example of storytelling that I really appreciate in Japanese media. Too many are in it for the "wham-bam" action rather than the the incredible writing in so many various properties that don't get the hype they deserve.
Well, ma'am, much love and respect! and a rather cheerful "Too-too-ROO!" to you! ^_~
Me and my siblings watched the anime back then and while I kinda dropped it for a while, my brother didn't and told me that it gets better and that I should watch it til the end. I did and it was great! I have seen a lot of people make Steins;Gate videos recently (especially a couple of months ago) and I heard it's cause it's an anniversary or something. I don't have that kind of emotional connection with this series but I'm happy to hear how much others do.
With that many games in the SciAdv series, there's always an anniversary somewhere .. 😄
The anime is now 10 years old (2011), so maybe it's that? I dunno - I actually don't pay too much attention to all that.
Definitely one of my aaaall time favourite Anime series. i really should check out the original game and the new series Steins'Gate 0 soon.

The smile on my face during this whole video. Love the fact that older generations can enjoy things like this too.
Steins;Gate was one of the greatest stories I ever witnessed.
The figurines look amazing! What a fantastic series, it brings out so many good memories
This is honestly the most heart warming review! Such an amazing thing to see you so incredibly passionate about a franchise such as SG, which is not as easily recognizable to the general public.
I couldn’t agree more that Steins;Gate is a brilliant piece of storytelling, making you not only care about the characters but simultaneously giving meaning to the actions and thoughts of the world. To me beyond the worldlines, beyond the secret underground networks, beyond the death.. tells the story of a young man realizing his humanity and his limitation through his hardships, and by opening up his humanity allowed him to experience love as well. It’s beautiful through and through.
Keep up the lovely work :)
I can't tell you how sweet this is to see. As someone very into steins;gate, and having been involved in the community for the last few years, it already excites me to see somebody equally as interested in it as is; however, seeing the way you talk about it is genuinely heartwarming.
It's taken me years, but I think I've finally found someone who does an especially good job of the most difficult part of convincing someone to watch steins;gate, telling them to simply 'stick with it'.
A really sweet video that's reignited my desire to rewatch the show.
Steins;Gate means so much to me
I have seen the anime twice and played all endings of the Visual Novel in Japanese.
It's my favourite Visual Novel.
Really happy to see that I can relate to you so much
Always so impressed at how well thought out these reviews are, probably moreso than many mainstream reviewers. Appreciate this review of a very beloved visual novel
Oh my gosh this is my new favorite channel. You're seriously knowledgeable about all things Steins;Gate and it warms my heart to no end to see people of all types profess their love for this masterpiece
I’ve only seen the anime ages ago, but hearing your opinions on this story, your excitement, and your insight on narrative and character really does remind me of why I liked this series so much. Thank you for your wonderful video!
I am always impressed by the backround knowledge you have about all these niche games. Another great video :)
You are a great inspiration for all of us. It is never too late to enjoy the things that you love and to also be confident in what you enjoy!
I really admire your dedication, confidence and professionalism that you apply to your hobby!
I somehow stumbled onto this channel. What a lovely gem this woman is, keep doing what you're doing, its humbling to see someone who stands as an outliner in the demographics of a hobby show passion unlike any other. Truly inspiring.
Your dedication to Steins;Gate is truly amazing! It's an absolute masterpiece. I played Elite for the first time this year, and I had watched the anime first so I knew what to expect, but I didn't expect it to be so much more immersive than the anime. The soundtrack was way more ominous too, I absolutely loved it.
You're absolutely right - it's hard to convey how different the visual novel experience is. Most gamers will realise this since they're aware of the immersion - but there's still a widespread misconception out there that VNs aren't really the same level of "game".
I remember seeing the anime when i was younger, and watching you talk about it, even though quite cryptcally, made me remember the joy that was discovering this show for the first time ✨✨✨
I'm completely blown away by this generation gap but you being what I'd consider a full blown weeb! I'd never thought in a million years that someone like you would even bat an eye to Steins;Gate, even more with things like VNs since I always thought there are only very few people who are into them even with the anime community. I love you and your love for this game, very awesome!
Im so happy to see you enjoying what you enjoy! Im glad youtube showed me your video! I love steins gate as well!
I turned 24 recently and my friends and I are starting to truly come to grips with the concept that we're getting older. I only recently played steins gate earlier last month and it was remarkable but I was wondering if I was starting to get less impressionable, if I were to see it back in 2013 it probably would've changed my life. Seeing such immense passion at your age made me realise to appreciate the masterpiece that it is, even if I'm not eating, breathing, and sleeping steins gate like I might''ve If it was my first visual novel. Great video!
Yes, interesting point. I talked a bit about that in my video on Chrono Trigger - that in no way can I have the experience of someone 12-15 years old playing it. I can still have a great experience, but it's obviously different.
Glad to see you love Steins;Gate as much as I do. It really is a one of a kind visual novel and anime. Keep up the fantastic videos!
Love the video! I can't believe you kept it spoiler free while explaining what you like about it so well, that's so hard to do with this one.
Thank you! That means a lot to me. 🤗
Saw this on my recommended, youtube probably knows I like Steins Gate and kinda glad it was recommended. Hearing your reviews with a familiar soothing voice is kinda refreshing.
Steins gate is one of my favorite stories ever. So cool to see you also love it so much!
Hello there, I just wanna say this is the first time I just stumbled upon your channel and I immediatley subscribed because I also happen to be a huge fan of this visual novel as well, Steins Gate is truly an amazingly well written for it's genre especially in these day and age where it's just rare to find good stories. If you love Steins Gate then I also do highly recommend you to read "Umineko When They Cry" it's one of the most well regarded piece of fiction to ever exist in any medium has to offer I can't really say anything more because Umineko is really complex when I first thought it was just a deconstruction of the murder mystery and fantasy genre, but turns out it goes beyond way more than that and it really did surpass all of my expectations, but once again I'm very glad I have come across your channel, I'm sorry if my english is not that good because it's not my first language.
Hi Miki and welcome.
Yes, I have Umineko on my PC and have started it.
I honestly couldn't tell that English is not your first language (it isn't mine either, btw!) - I am really astonished.
Umineko is so damm underrated. Beatrice is a goddess. Haven't read the manga yet but I saw the trainwreck of the anime and loved every minute of it.
Can i just watch the Umineko anime and get a good enough jist of the story there?
@@yung.alchemist absolutely not, every fan can tell you that the anime is not advisable to watch because they changed and skip too much details that will be important for the mystery setup that will give you hints, you will be left confused while watching the anime and plus it was left unfinished it only adapted the question arcs.
steins;gate is one of my favorite works of fiction in general, and i will never not sing it's praises. it had a profound effect on me when i watched it during one of my winter breaks from uni, and is the only anime i can say genuinely made me emotional
It did the same for me, in the same time frame as well! El Psy Congroo!
oh YT recomended me your channel, this is amazing!
Exactly!! Everything comes together is why I love stains gates as well, my tiny 11 year old brain was completely blown off when the anime first came out in 2011. What a good memory back in the day.

Steins;Gate is a masterpiece. I'm glad UA-cam algorithm is recommending me videos about it again.
I 100% agree with your statement about the infamous "slow/boring first-half" criticism Steins;Gate gets.
El Psy Kongroo!
But i think the slow part is needed for the crazy part
is it really that bad for other people? maybe i'm just used to slice of life segments
@@htf5555 yeah i like the comedy slice of life segmen and that part is important to make us forget about kurisu death at least for a while
@@sultanprawiro3069 right? the beginning sets the tone for the entire novel but the SOL segment puts your guard down so that the later parts still hit you hard
@@htf5555 Idk. I've seen plenty of people who claim to love S;G but still say the first half is boring and sleep inducing.
BS if you ask me.
This video brought memories back to me when I was in awe of the plot and characters of Steins;Gate when I first experienced it. You mentioned that not many other visual novels stood out to you as much, so I was wondering if you ever played Clannad.
I have ... but not finished it (yet). Can't say much about it so far, except that I'm sure it will not overtake S;G in my heart.
I think Clannad is better in anime ,but steins gate is masterpiece in various versions

just found your chanel and I'm soso happy that this is the first video I've seen of you
i was soooo overjoyed to see this video pop up, i was already a fan when i found your SMT videos but steins gate is really something else. i understand wanting to keep this video spoiler free since it's a very broad overview of the game's release, but would you perhaps consider one day making a spoilers-inclusive video with your full review and thoughts on the story and characters? i think without a doubt one of the most powerful things about s;g is the story (though i guess that's obvious considering it's a visual novel, haha), so i really want to know your full thoughts!
I'll keep it in mind. It would be a challenging task for me, as I would have to revisit some of the traumatic issues I talked about in How I Got into Gaming.
Steins;Gate is one of my favorite anime of all time. I have never felt so attached to a story about time travel like that before ❤
Your video just popped up randomly on my recommended list. Suffice to say you just added yet another subscriber. As a fellow VN player, I love seeing people of all ages and backgrounds enjoying an underrated medium that's no different than many written novels.

i have watched the anime, but haven't played the game, you've made me want to
Honestly happy to see someone outside of us whipper snappers acknowledging anime and enjoying it. I hope one day I can be the cool anime grandpa teaching my grand children about Steins;Gate
Watched this video a few weeks ago, and that made me replay steins gate again and watch the anime. This franchise really touches me deeply with emotions I didn't think I could have for characters in a visual novel or games altogether. I originally played this game a while ago and it really inspired me in more than one way. Replaying it now gave me the burst of motivation I needed to get through a few obstacles in life. Anyhow, enough about me. Lovely vid, I hope to see more of my favourite games get the Food4dogs treatment :)
You have the loveliest personality, it's wonderful hearing you talk about the things that interest you. I've only watched the anime version of Steins;Gate but I may have to play through the visual novel now, I am intrigued. Have an excellent day!
Top three anime of all time for me personally. The visual novel for Vita was also stellar. The follow-up OVAs, Zero, and the movie were also incredible.
I’ve had the steam version of the original sitting in my library for a while. The anime is still one of the best I’ve ever seen. I really found it at the right time because I was really getting an interest in astrophysics from seeing Sagan and Feynman’s stuff.
I'd be really interested to hear how well the PC version plays.
@Elation LAW Absolutely. It would be a dream to have it on the Switch.
Incredible video, good showcases and general overview of the anime

I finished my first playthrough of the original VN a few days ago and just now you have uploaded a video on it, must have been the choice of Steins Gate ;)
I had already watched the anime and thought it was brilliant, but the VN definitely added some new depth to the characters and as a result I feel some scenes hit harder in the VN than in the anime. Looking forward to playing Steins Gate;0 now, keep well!
😃 it always is the choice of Steins;Gate .. isn't it? 😎

This is an amazing video! Steins Gate holds a special place in my heart because it was one of the first Anime I ever watched and I was reading the VN during a very depressing time in my life when my father passed away and it helped me get through that.
Have you ever played Muv-Luv? Don't want to spoil anything, but it's one of the few VNs out there that gave me a similar feeling and had the same amount of emotional impact.
Yes, I have played all of Muv-Luv. Sadly, it didn't do quite the same thing for me .. so Steins;Gate still reigns supreme for me. 😊
SciADV fan here, I am very very impressed by your video here. I am surprised and excited at the same time that the story of Steins;Gate affects so many people regardless of age or nationality. Your video is very informative and well researched. I also noticed you have already played Chaos;Child, which is fantastic as all SciADV titles are interconnected.
SPOILERS ALERT:
By the way, do you know a new SciADV entry Anonymous;Code is getting released in 2022? This time, instead of focusing on worldlines like Steins;Gate, the story is focused on world layers. And Amadeus Kurisu is actually present in the trailer. This will be the best game of the series so far according to the author because it is the compilation of the series. Treat it like the avengers of SciADV.
Yes, I follow gaming news avidly and am aware of a 'mystery' new release coming. How exciting is that for us? Beyond words. 😊
I absolutely love this video from seeing someone who I would never expect to enjoy S;G to all the merch from the series. You explain the series exactly how I explain to everyone who has never seen it or feels the first half is slow.

I agree with your take 100%. One of my favorite animes. I haven't ever played the visual novel however. The first half is a slow burn, that builds up the world. But yes, every scene is important.
