Good work man. I just finished my first tile job. It’s not completely perfect but I’m proud of myself for it. I guess by doing your own work, you notice every imperfection. On the plus side though, my wife loves it.
I'm not a tile guy at all but the few times I have done it I know for sure I'm getting a ton of coverage. And I'm messy as crap too! Have a hard time keeping thinset out of the joints
I have notice that too, proper coverage always comes out of the grout joints. Most clean installations are clean because they are using them wrong as they think clips will replace thinset, I have seen people using clips to pull tiles that clearly need more thinset
They've been around for 8-10 years I'd say, but have become more popular and used over the past 5. They make for a lip-free floor, and are especially important with bowed tile.
I use linesman pliers when l pull my clips with a twisting motion, seems to work better than a hammer, at least for me!! Great video and good content!!!! Just subsribed!!!
Nothing's worse than walking on a large format tile floor & hearing that hollow or echoing sound under that tile... You already know it's gonna pop loose sooner than later. The finger snap impressed me Bud. Nice touch. Hoping all is well Bud, Dirty Jersey out!!
Usually a little elbow grease, and a scotch pad. You can use certain mild acids properly diluted as well, pre grout, with good success if its being difficult
I had my garage floor done with 15" x 24" ceramic tiles, but the installer didn't clean up the joints from the mortar, that when he grouted, the color of the mortar is seeping through the tiles. I pointed it out to him, but he said it's not a problem. And when I clean and wash the floor, I could see the mortar color and not the grout, and it shows cavities between the tiles. BTW, the grout color is deep gray. The other side of the story is, when there isn't a gap between the floor tiles and the wall baseboard tiles, how can the grout get in there? I'd like to send pictures if I may, your opinions will gladly be accepted to help me with this lousy job.
Iv always found a flat head screwdriver works well to clean mortar between tiles prior to grout work. Should I be using a box cutter like urself? Also while laying the tiles I find using my tile spacers really help to get the extra mortar that squeezes up between the tiles. Thanks for the videos, keep them coming.
Give it a shot and let me know what you think. I've used a flathead as well, but it was too rigid and prone to chipping tiles for my liking. Thanks man!
Well made video. Your tile work looks great; really clean lines. Your advice in not skimping on mortar is worth its weight in gold. Listening to that hammer scrape along the tiles tho… 😭 I’d kick em with my steel toes before putting on my tennis shoes.

These little bits of information are so helpful to the neighborhood house work guy like myself
Like the finger click near the end. Good job looks great!
Facts on the grouting! Bad grout job will destroy a project. Awesome Nathan!
Thanks brother man. Appreciate you
Very helpful, thanks!❤
Thanks for the info. I made a mess laying down the tile and I'm glad I checked this video before attempting to grout.

Appreciate the love
Veey nice work!
This is exactly what I needed. Thanks for this!
Good luck ❤️
"I'm not the cleanest installer" says the cleanest installer. When I grow up I wanna install like you 😂

Correct! Thanks Carlos
Never used those clips when I was doing tile... Are they a newer product? I'm assuming they help greatly

After i clean all the tiles. No Thin set remaining, I 'seal' the tile with 511 Impregnator before apply the grout.
you better use rubber mallet to remove the clips, thus protect the tile

Sorry, can't send my picture from my phone, I'll try from my computer.

See ua-cam.com/video/G4osg1ZupC4/v-deo.html, great tip!!
Olfa knife with a black blade works very well

How long should you wait to grout after setting tile?
Can I clean off the mortar using a box cutter if it’s glass tile? I have a lot on the edge of black glass
How long was it drying on the glass?
I'm definitely getting dahmer vibes from this video but I got my question answered, half the way down the tile to clean out the thinset
That's quite the rude thing to say. Glad to help.
Why did u not 45 your miters on schluter?
I didn't want to i guess
I don't always. Depends on the project, client, money, etc.
What gloves are those? They look tight
Venom steel I believe they're called
Nice little warning for not cutting waterproofing.... old-timers might forget about that part.... FYI...use a plastic hammer
Hammer to remove clips , ouch .. use a mallet bud 😊
Never heard or her
Rubber mallet man
Never heard of her
