3 Days Backpacking in Glacier - The Northern Loop

- Before setting off on the 1,200km Great Divide Trail we took a road trip to a couple national parks. Glacier was high on my list as I had never been before, it is home to the Continental Divide Trail, and the environment is very similar here as to what we will experience in the Canadian Rockies on our thru hike.

Grizzly bears, massive glaciated mountains, lush forests, snow, mosquitoes, and all manner of fun smaller wildlife. We decided to hike the 60 mile Northern Loop through Glacier National Park, and try to do it in just three days. The hike could be as little as 50 miles depending on where you start, but given permits can be hard to get we had some bonus miles to do.
It was an incredible hike, and one I would certainly recommend.

Thanks for watching! Sorry that the audio isn't great, I had very little time to put this video together before leaving on the GDT. Check out any recent updates from our hike on my Instagram @jupiterhikes !
Video so beautiful it gives me chills of wanting to be there , like my body is earning to get out of these doors
I thought the audio and soundscape was great. Mixed with the amazing visuals made for a super fun and chill video
Video was great. Didn't even notice it. The music was perfect and the VO sounded fine.
good stuff. i cried at the end
Can't wait to see the GDT vids, hopefully those are coming?
Jupiter, that was was a truly magnificent video! Your narration with Sprocket walking along and the backdrop of GNP was simply perfect. Well done! Thank you for taking us long with the two of you!
Glacier is so breathtaking. Just amazing scenery. So glad you got to do the trip (and your Great Divide trip, too)...with someone you care for and who enjoys backpacking as much as you. That is a blessing.
Thanks for (another) beautiful video. Best wishes...and best of luck on the Great Divide !
I love Sprocket's custom pack! It is awesome! Great video Jupiter, thanks for taking the time to make them. I really enjoy your work. Keep up the great work! Happy trails!
Two months since I last watched this video. Certainly aged well. Like some of my favorite books--To be enjoyed over and over Thanks Jupiter and Sprocket
Beautiful shots! I’m so happy you have found special person to hike with you. Solitude is awesome, but having that special person at the end of the day, it’s pretty good. Best of luck on your big trek 🥾🥾🥾🥾
thank you for the feared-long-lost start to my day with a smile
Thanks for bringing us along on the journey. I haven’t been to glacier in nearly 20years. It’s great to see it again from your lens
I just turned 30. Its gonna take me many miles and many years before I can get to your level and hope to take on adventures like these, at least without getting lost and dying. im not trying to endanger myself or anyone with me though so Im going on my first hiking loop over labor day weekend with some friends its about 20 miles. I hope to take on a few small places like that this year to gain understanding and dial in my gear and my weight. Then when my next 2 week vacation comes up ill try something a little harder. Im just trying to take things slow and ramp up to something like the stuff you do one day.
What a beautiful park, and how appealing you make it look with your filming and narration. I notice that, ahum, the camera really loves Sprocket! 😇 Have a good GDT the 2 of you.
This video really made my day. The landscape of Glacier is truly breathtaking. I am glad you and Sprocket had this time to grow closer.
Wow! One of my dreams is to spend a week or two hiking in Glacier NP.
Thank you for this beautiful post. I enjoyed watching these wonderful views and places. Keep it up, my friend. I will come back to watch a lot. Good luck.
Wow! Stunning views! Loving the content with Sprocket!
New sub here, from Sandy Eggo. PCT is on the bucket list, but I'm grateful for all of the awesome trails near me. Dr. Suess used to hike them too. You can see the way he draws plants and vegetation. Some of the stuff you see makes you think you're on another planet. Cheers Jupiter, happy trails.
Y’all are just too cute! Can’t wait for this next adventure! Love your style of videography and narration.
Between Glacier and your previous hike on rhe GET, you've covered the extremes of water and trees and rock and so much else. Thanks for bringing us along.
I've been in Glacier since April and have Love every second of it. Every pass trail I've done has been absolutely breathtaking. I really enjoyed this video!
Just rewatched in anticipation of GDT videos. This was a truly beautiful, and moving video. I really hope some day to do some birding in Glacier National Park.
I absolutely love Sprockets hiking attire!
What a great video, such a nice vibe. Love the opening scene, Sprocket brushing her teeth.
Hello 👋 my hiking friend, sincere thanks for sharing this beautifully filmed video. You did a superb job. Stay safe out there. 🤗 👋
What an awesome trip! I hope to make it up there one day!
Wow this trail is absolutely beautiful
Beautiful landscapes,
Greetings from Guadalajara, Mex.
Stunning scenery
Beautiful scenery and I love the calm of the video. This is why we love to hike right here. Just got back from GNP and loved every minute.
Good idea to hike behind Sprocket, in case another grizzly pops up! 😉
What a beautiful video and narration. Looking forward to the next video. Both of you stay and and enjoy making memories
We loved visiting GNP in 2012. While we didn’t do any hiking , we stayed at Many Glacier Hotel for 3 nights and 4 days, this video definitely makes me want to go back and do a few trails. Beautiful video.
Great video … very well narrated
Hello from Edgewater, Florida! Loved the summer flowers, turquoise water, and summer sun.
Thanks!
Glacier!! I worked in Glacier, at Many. The Northern Loop is fantastic and that Ptarmigan Tunnel never fails to impress when you've cleared it. Excited for your next adventure. Make sure you're making some "Hey Bear" noise!! Thanks so much for the beautiful vids.
Beautiful video. It truly seems like a magical place. Thank you for sharing this journey with us!
Breathtaking scenery! Great video with music and narration. Enjoy the GDT.
Absolutely Incredible Scenery! Thanks for sharing!
New sub. Cool channel. Glacier is awesome. I try to spend 7-10 days a year in Glacier exploring.
Thanks for sharing. This looks like an amazing place and you document the beauty and grandeur well.
Great video! All the best to you two on your Great Divide Trail hike. Hope the smoke from forest fires has subsided by then.
Marmot Marvelin!!! Ya gotta!
Looks like a bucket list place for sure!!!! Thank
You for sharing the journey!!!!
So looking forward to watching your GDT hike together. Stay safe. Have fun
Breathtaking! ❤❤❤
Where are you Jupiter?
Cnoc (kanok) is Welsh for hill.
It's my dream the GDT, thank you for this series!
Makes me want to go back to glacier. You could easily spend a month there hiking around.
One of our favorites was the 15-20ish mile loop around rising wolf mountain next to two medicine lake.
Awesome, again!
Incredible as always
When I day-hiked Ptarmigan Tunnel years ago (looks like I was headed the opposite direction you went), I saw someone continue on down the trail past the tunnel (which was the turnaround point for the day-hike). I wondered where they could possibly be going. Now I know! Thanks!
Just wow.
AMAZING VIDEO ! THANK YOU !
Hot damn. A Jupiter Video pops up and I drop everything. Just like I am doing now! Is Sprocket's hat a "Sunday Afternoon"? Also see she has the spiffy Jr Ranger badge on the back-pack. BTW such gorgeous country. Knocked my socks off. Just can't get over it nor get it out of my mind
It is a random very old Patagonia sun hat I found at a thrift store! Both like it a lot but unfortunately long discontinued
Beautiful
I had a poor experience there as it was so full of visitors. But lucky you got a permit and got to see the better side of it. Seems you're getting pretty chill prior to Canada, hope that works out for you both.
Great work yall! Amazing video
Good luck, stay safe, enjoy the wonder and welcome to my backyard - Western Alberta
An ELECTRIC TOOTHBRUSH ??!! That is backpacker heresy...and ultralight backpacker TREASON. 😂
Just kidding guys. Couldn't help it...
The Line Divide Canada And 🇨🇦 And Uu.S. A. IS Beautiful I Sure Would Love To Walk Thru Divide Line Its Beautiful❤❤❤
Please do a post GDT gear review! Would love to hear your thoughts.
It looks ok
Who made sprockets pack. Looks awesome
Hyped for this
Awesome! So jealous.
Gorgeous video man
When you said you had never been in Glacier before, and you wanted to do it before the great divide trail trip, I thought you were going to say, “In case we don’t make it back alive!”
Are you packing bear spray?!
Great scenery of the mountains and wildlife. I think adding some more shots with you would balance this video. Maybe get sprocket behind the camera from time to time. Possibly sharing a break together too? (IMHO)
So he can become like every other hiking UA-camr? Let him do what he wants dude
Jupiter:
Have you looked into Outdoor Vitals Backpack -- Skyline 30L fast pack?
Yeah boyyyyyy
Glacier can’t be all that far away from heaven
This uber-mellow narrated video style is not for me. Feels really artsy but quickly puts me to sleep. To each his own
🙂. I think you are much more reflective and contempletive than I'll ever be. Have a great hike in Canada guys!
I mean if you have someone drop you off do you really need a permit🤷🏽♂️
1:28 Bro you've been adding too much olive oil to your couscous ;)
That won’t be there by the time he finishes the GDT. The secret to carrying a little less food 😅.
@@wanttogo1958 good point! I always say to myself that it's more efficient to carry my energy in my stomach than on my back, as it is closer to my center of mass. I guess the same applies to excess body fat!
Sprocket
No food-bag pillow in grizzly territory, eh? 🧸
Walk at 3.7mph for 11 hours to do 40 miles
