Andy … would the McFarland 6’ 8” be your pick for a small stream 3 weight? I’m shopping around. How do you get on with that reel seat?
I wouldn't say that this is my area of expertise, I've certainly not cast all of them. I really like this Maccy though. Real seat has been fine so far, I grew up fishing cane with a sliding band seat so might be used to it
Cor, that glass rod looks like fun, I can feel my rod arm twitching for the weekend! You can't beat a bit of small stream up close and personal dry fly. Great video.
Thanks Chris, glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks Andy.Good watch.Your net looks as though it spooks fish considerably.I get the floatability release in the water aspect but could be a tippet breaker on a short line even with a soft rod.
Awesome, my kind of fly fishing. I'm not sure you can beat small stream wild trout fishing in Derbyshire 👌🏻👍🏻😎
...Apart from in Scotland 😉!
Personally I like glass and not just for fly rods, however for lightweight small stream fly fishing I dont think that you can beat split cane. Can't ever understand why trout fishermen are so anti grayling, they're lovely fish to catch. Enjoyed the video fishing waters that most of us can only dream about.
Bit to much rabbit other wish nice vid
Straight in to the pan
Yet again another great video Andy, just goes to show you can good size fish in small streams with the Wright approach. Please keep the video's coming Len.
Thanks Len, will do my best!
If you put the net under the water first and pull the fish rewards it, it will think its weeds or cover and dive in.
If you stab at it with the net you'll spook it and scare it off...
Beautiful brown trout Andy 👌🏽👍🏼
cracking couple of trout. Well worth leaving home for
Thanks Nick!
I think you should use a bigger net
or catch smaller fish?
That first fish was a stunner, another great video. Impressed how you remain so mindful and are able to talk us through what you’re doing! Brilliant!
Why do you go up a size in the fly line compared to the rod weight?
What beautiful fish Andy brownies are the best looking fish imo..lovely rod too.
Thanks very much Paula, very kind!
Great job Andy, those were some amazing trout! loving the dry fly videos - keep them coming. Any chance of a couple of fly tying videos? You have some interesting patterns - especially that Caddis one.
Hi Tom, thanks very much! It's a very normal DHE with a mirage tinsel rib, I'm sure Davy Macphail has a great tutorial 👍
That will be a lovely rod when he finishes the handle😂😂😂
what's wrong with the handle?! I love it!
You are aware that's how fly fishing rod handles look, right 🤣🤣🤣
Im sure your aware that most are sculpted and shaped melt@@davebaron6739
Cracking fish! Was out in sun as well- nothing rising on the Ecclesbourne despite a few bugs being about. Had a handful of little uns on the faithful mini-streamers instead 😉
Good work Ian, can't beat the mini streamers!
Enjoyed that pal 👍🏼 I need some advice I’ve just bought a 9ft 5W combo but my local river is not too much wider than this maybe double the width at its widest but my Brother insisted I’d be fine with the 9ft 5W but I’m not too sure do you think I should swap it for the 8ft 4W version 🤷🏼♂️ hope you can help thanks in advance ✌🏼💙👍🏼🏴
It’s great that you’re posting so much at the moment Andy, and what a beautiful location.
Those trout (and the grayling) were cracking fish and I can’t wait to get amongst ‘em again!
Thank you for another great vlog.
Lovely kit as well, very dangerous for a tackle tart like me!
Thanks Phil, will try to keep them coming!
Well done Andy great video as always, what cracking brownies.Nothing to beat small stream fishing.ATB Steve.
Banging video Andy! What line are you using with that lovely glass rod?
Thanks Jed! That's an SA Amplitude MPX 👍
Hi Andy, loving your channel. I take it you both are very busy, just wondering when your next video is, please. I'm learning about fishing rivers with nymph and flies. Especially when we move to the south coast.
Looking to do some dry fly and thinking about this any recommendations Greys K4ST X Fly Rod Combos 4pc i am using a airflow streammatic V2 for my euro set up
Which weight and length Rhodri?
@@IBandAndyFishing 8ft #4 i am looking at but i have been looking at the flow wychwood
Some beauts there Andy, that first one gave you a right merry go around 😂 “this time” and the trout is like “yeah no!”
Nice job matey!
There he is! Cheers bud, similar to a GT fight 🤷♂️
I have noticed that you and ib use a lot of 3wt & 4wt rods is there a particular reason for that or is it just a preference ? Keep up the great videos love u guys in the us
I think they suit our fishing really nicely, Bobby, 3s and 4s would be appropriate for most river fishing situations 👍
Great video Andy 👍 hard to beat playing a wild brown on a fibreglass rod! put a smile on my face all the best.
Thanks Scott, really glad you enjoyed it!
Cheers from MaineUSA. I love your videos and I really enjoy your commentary, Thank you!
Great springtime wild fish/fishing video Andy...thanks for making and sharing...good tip to overline (+1 #) your rod for short casting ranges and accuracy ...I find it helps hook-ups too, particularly with shorter rods...all the best
Where abouts is this stream?
Small stream dry fly fishing, has to be my favourite way to fish & on a beautiful glass rod too Andy, I have a CTS 7.6ft 3 weight glass rod myself but don’t take it out as often as I should, think I’ll definitely have to bring it out in the future
Why not Grayling?
Glass rods are great for small stream fishing - love mine, great feedback when playing the fish and when casting.
Enjoying your videos, a couple of lovely fish there. Keep up the good work Andy.
Hi Andy, always a pleasure to watch your well presented and informative video.. That first fish led you a merry dance and what a beauty for such a small water. I am old enough to remember when glass was the newest innovation in fly fishing. It did/does have a certain finesse to it but it was sloppy and heavy and I was glad when boron, graphite etc was invented but on dries fibre glass has such a soft forgiving tip not many flies get pulled out. It brings back memories but I prefer the modern rods overall. Tight lines and thank you for your work.
Great stuff. You're inspiring me to get out and do some.. Amazing work Andy.
Cracking video mate
Can't wait for the fish to start hitting the dry flys up in the North. I've not seen any gly on the water yet
Not a great start to the season, it can only get better!
@@IBandAndyFishing that it can. We had a very thick frost yesterday morning and snow on the tops and Monday big hail stones.
That's awful for this time of year, it's nearly May! Some very cold nights here have made the fishing tough again. It'll warm up one day I hope!
Enjoyed that Andy pal all the very best tightlines.
Thanks very much!
What would be the difference in a glass rod and split cane
I think you could make either of those materials behave in different ways or more similar ways. Price would be a difference I think though!
Great fishing, makes me want to get out as soon as it warms up a bit this far North. Thanks for sharing.
The famous one more ..Early conditions and two very decent trout caught using a beauty of a rod ...Well done always a joy to see you at work...
That fiberglass rod looks so nice! And it casts very smooth.
Just starting out and it's already spinning out the amount of options and choices to use when it comes to fly fishing, enjoying the videos though
Cracking fish and great video! Glad I'm not the only one who takes six goes at netting a fish!
Thoroughly enjoy this channel, after finding it a fortnight ago. Entertaining yet educational. Cheers for the knowledge
Thanks so much bud, we really appreciate it!
@@IBandAndyFishing I'd love to see you cover some of the lochs and tarns of the north
Hi Andy do you use furl leader when dry fly fishing and what's your thoughts on them.
Beautiful rod looks very smooth and responsive. It's good to see you getting more subs just goes to show you that your both doing a good job keep it up 👏👏
Nice video, when i started fly fishing you only had glass rods !
Nice going, fruitless on the Usk today, no hatch, only 2 rises, spoke to another guy who had fished hard for the last 3 days and had caught nothing, tough going.
That's rough, are those grannom gone?
It seems like it, cold winds seem to have stopped the hatches
You saw what it did to it when I was there, killed it in about half an hour 🤷♂️
I did not think he was that big at all, that is a beautiful brown, and in a small stream like that, this is what fly fishing is all about for me anyway he had me fooled.
Any tips for dry fly drift/casting please.
Please do more small stream dry fly vids! This thing rocks!
Cracking little vlog that Andy!
Great stuff. You're inspiring me to get out and do some.
Great video. I tried a glass rod on a small stream but had trouble with my accuracy. Any chance of a video showing how casting glass is different?
Slow way down, I think a few of his casts were a bit quick.
Amazing work Andy
Thank you kindly!
👍
I'm never sure if I should comment or not?
Brilliant Andy
Thanks very much Jerry. I've got your flies here!
Great video Andy
Brilliant trout mate.
Cracking trout
Excellent 👍
YOU'RE excellent for watching!
Brilliant.
At times your speech is more than a little hard to understand.
Sandy rods are outrageously good. Lovely fishing.. well done 👍🏼
Been watching you for a whilst, I started fly fishing about 10 months ago and really enjoying it in my almost retirement, thank you for the video, I haven’t fished a river/stream yet, still on ponds. Looking forward to having a go in the river soon.
Nice one I’ve had some nice trout out local river last year not on fly but trotting float
