That's the hardest part. Narcissists abuse the people they're closest to. Partners, children, etc. I grew up in that environment. It took 5 decades to understand someone would deliberately harm the people they care about. I'm working on recognizing there are some things that are out of my hands that I can't change and it has nothing to do with me. I'm also working on acceptance and giving people who seek to harm me a wide berth.
