I was boat engineer on 44340 out of Jonesport Me. We did lighthouse logistics, they were manned then. In winter we also did limited ice breaking for the fishing boats . We also did many boat rescues, a completely reliable boat for all weather.

Hats off and the first round is on me. This is the best of what America is. Many thanks from a Washington coast resident. These crews are heroes.

I was stationed at Grays Harbor Station in Westport Washington, aboard the CGC Iris out of Astoria Oregon, and I have much respect for the Surfman and Coxswains that "have to go out, but don't have to come back." Semper Paratus

Fudge yeah!! Grays was my twilight tour. I was lucky enough to be certified on her and Triumph, and I was gifted a nameboard for Triumph by the command when I departed Cape D for the amount of time I spent on that boat. I love the 52's, and it was real sad to see they retired them last Nov.

Shinnecock Inlet, 1969-70, MLB 44308. Al Dillinbeck was a great boat handler and we had some exciting times when the surf was up and the tide was going out...

I help build the 47ft at Textron Marine and Land System. I was proud to have build them for the Coast Guard.

You have done a good job. I had the opportunity of testing one of the 47 and in my opinion the design of the hull is still the best out there. MLB 47 were built like tanks. Off course electronics could be outdated today but design is superb. For a future unit I would just place waterjets to be more user-friendly and safer in close rescue, the "rest" I would keep it that way.

Went to the school in 1976. It was called "USCG Motor Lifeboat School" in those days. Semper Paratus!

They must go out but not come back when the SAR alarm resounds,
They scramble to their rescue boats with danger all around,
Through angry waves and pounding seas they Sally onward still,
To save the sailor shipless now whose fate has turned to ill,
They train both day-and-night each segment of the crew,
For shipwrecked souls depends on these heroes coming through,
And once on scene no time to waste to alter fortunes fate,
They left the sailor from the brine onto salvations gate,
So mind you when the ocean's rage turn sailor's blood ice,
The Coast Guard ventures out to save and sometimes sacrifice.
