  • Hello all and welcome back! In this short segment, we show the installation of the hydraulic pump (Lift-All) system into the belly of the tractor. This includes the drive shaft installation for the pump. It is a short, but informative video and I hope you enjoy. By next weekend, we should have the tractor back on the ground and rolled into the sun for the first time! From there, we will start hanging the small parts, priming and painting them. Don't forget to visit the GoFundMe at the link below, and donate/share if you can! This project is getting very close to its' final stages - stay tuned! As always, thanks for watching & wrenching with me!

    Didn't realize that the H and M are different as in less room on the M to hook up the belly pump. Learn something new today. Thanks for the video.

      Yessir! Lot of differences between an H and M. The clutch housing is just one of many. The M has a much shorter clutch housing than the H.

      Thanks for the reply. @@KennyKizzleRustyNutzRanch I remember helping my Dad put the belly pump in his Farmall M. It had to be connected while the pump was going up in the clutch housing. Never took the belly pump out of my H.

      @@stanschleusener6444 yessir. The M drive coupling had the tabs for the drive cogs machined perpendicular to each other, so the only way to install it is to do it while you are raising the pump into position. There are no retaining collars like there are on the H.

    What you forget when you don't work with these every day. I did not realize the H had a long hydraulic pump drive shaft. Maybe I never helped dad take the belly pump out of the H. I know the M has a very short coupler that has to be lined up while you raise the pump in to the housing. We would lift the pump up with a rod through that belly pump hole and screw the fill plug onto the filler neck when we had it up high enough. We would regroup and lift it the rest of the way to get the bolts in. My dad had found a take apart coupler that had a cotter pin to hold the dog together. I have a video on it on my channel called "Farmall M Belly Pump Drive Coupler Dog" It sure was a time saver.

    • @KennyKizzleRustyNutzRanch
      @KennyKizzleRustyNutzRanch  4 роки тому

      Yessir. The M is a lot different. The torque tube/clutch housing on the M is much shorter than it is on an H. It's funny the minds of tricks a person learns while doing this stuff - especially when doing it alone. You sometimes have to get creative!

    Nice to see everything coming together! It’s also nice to do like you said: get the mind off of things. Just got done checking on the news about things in Nashville and it seems like things are calming down. I sure wish things were different, but all we can do is stay safe and show compassion. I think Leonard Bernstein said it best, “This will be our reply to violence: to make music more intensely, more beautifully, more devotedly than ever before.” I’d like to think that restoration work is just as much of an art as anything. It’s looking great, Kenny!

    my IH dealer had 2 T shaped handles that fit in that big hole in the bottome of the pump casting 2 mechanics could lift the pump in and out with it
    they were made with 1 inch bar stock with an ear welded to each one they had a stand made to flip down so when they were lifted into place they will stay in place so the bolts could be started. these were part of the tool kit to service the pump, transmission seals or install a clutch in the field.

    Do you think it would be possible to replace the seal on the transmission input shaft without dropping the hydraulic pump? Is it possible that with the pump coupling out, there is just enough room to "reasonably" remove the yoke and the seal cap? At about 10:30, it looks like it may be possible.

    • @KennyKizzleRustyNutzRanch
      @KennyKizzleRustyNutzRanch  4 роки тому

      I don't think it is possible. You have to remove the entire drive shaft and clutch assembly to get that all apart, which requires dropping the pump. You could try, but I really don't think it will work. I would recommend replacing the seal on the hydraulic drive (countershaft) as well.

    • @bryanh1944FBH

      @@KennyKizzleRustyNutzRanch Hi Kenny. Thank you for responding to me. I appreciate that! Well, good news and bad news. Getting the transmission input seal cap out of an H without removing the lift all pump was somewhat easy. It didn't look like my kid had any problems at all getting up in there. Ha ha. The original 1943 leather seal was shot! But, the bad news is that I can watch transmission oil come out of the counter shaft seal. Exactly as you thought. So, I will have to rewatch your excellent video once again to be double sure how to get that cog off the end of the transmission counter shaft. For sure taking the counter shaft seal out will drain the fluid. Shoot!! Finally, as a strange bonus, the hydraulic pump input shaft leaks too. I am sure all the seals are original leather.
