Good review I heard quite lot of Swan Song and it's been compared to The Stand by Stephen King but better which I read when I was a kid but the cut versation which is 700 odd pages still big. I only heard Robery Macommon recently he's not as well known as the other horror writers . I heard his other book This boy's life is pretty good as well, I might read some of his books. I also have Summer of nights by Dan Simmons I'm going to read.
Carrion Comfort is one of my favorite books (along with The Stand and Book of Leaves). It is a brilliant book. An employee in Barnes and Noble recommended it. Based on the title and synopsis, I would have never picked it up.
Thanks for another great video. For your Dean Koontz list, please consider the following: Watchers (his best book), Phantoms (his scariest book), 77 Shadow Street (2nd scariest, a great haunted house book). And I do like his Frankenstein series - modern-day, New Orleans, police procedural meets sci-fi, direct continuation of the Mary Shelly original
Awesome! Thanks for the recs. I actually just picked up the entire Frankenstein series. Looking forward to giving those a go. I loved the Mary Shelley original.
Freaking loved "The Troop"! Such great moments of body-horror 🤟 Same goes with Cutter's other novels "The Deep" & "Little Heaven," great stuff! He also put out an audio book called "The Breach," which was like a nightmarish blend of The Fly, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, and From Beyond. Highly recommend 👏
Great vid. The Taking didn’t do it for me, though I like Koontz and this book’s genre. Loved The Troop, Carrion Comfort and Swan Song. You hit on all the right points imho lol.
This guy is awesome 😎 The book reviews make me want to read the newer books. So I'm almost done with Insomnia, then it's Lovecraft's short tales. I'm stoked! Stay flyy James!"😎✌️🤘
Before it leaves my head, I think ur reviews are entertaining spot on with me. I started getting back Into reading four years ago, I've read a total of 35 books or 36 idk, I have it tracked. But I also started writing and I think you CLD have talent in that field as well. So again I thank you for being real and keep it going. Have a warm winter ❄️🤘😎
I'm on book 39 and Lovecraft will make it a interesting 40 for it will be my first read. After that, I'd like to make 41 a book you enjoyed and would recommend for I am interested 😃
I'm reading Swan Song right now (I'm almost done). I LOVE IT! I honestly think it's so much better than the Stand. Plan on reading Carrion Comfort soon, and also Abominable and The Terror shortly. Definitely want to get to The Troop soon. Awesome video.
Great vid. So you read a book a week roughly, which is a lot for me! Would you say you are a quick reader, or do you just spend a lot of time reading after work etc?’ Thanks!
I’m not sure if I’m a quick reader or not. I’m probably quicker of the book is good. If that makes sense. But I’m lucky enough to be able to read during work if I’m not busy.
@@jimmymango ah well that’s great if you can do that! Have you read any Adam Nevil? He does really creepy folk horror, amongst other things. If not , maybe start with the Ritual and Last days. He’s fantastic!
Randomly got shown one your other vids now I’m watching a few and subbed so I’m a massive koontz fan....I have read over 60 of his novels now and am going to do all of them. By far my favorite author. I even have a bunch of his unpublished works. I just finished the other Emily and devoted by him and LOVED them both. He does have quite a few that I have hated to the point it was hard to finish so I’m not just like a Stan who adores it all. Hahaha
@@jimmymango awesome! I have not done dragon tears yet, both his newer ones are great The other Emily, and Devoted. Tick Tock is good, intensity was a lot fun and fast, do you have IG I’ll have to keep in touch, I could prolly send some my finished koontz’s if your interested. Don’t need anything in return just love helping fellow readers out
That synopsis of Carrion Comfort sounds a lot like the plot to The Strain. So The Strain (which obviously came after Carrion Comfort) is basically an amalgamation of Carrion Comfort and Salem's Lot
Mr. Mango, I enjoy your blog but had to comment on your take of Dean R Koontz's book 'The Taking" I do not believe the antagonist at the end was from Mars.
I stumbled across Reapers Are the Angels in my local library a few years ago and I really liked it. And I loved Temple! Alden Bell is really Joshua Gaylord, who also wrote a novel called We Are The Animals and that was great! The Troop was ROUGH to read but really well done. I'm usually not a fan of body horror stuff but Nick Cutter had me page turning. This was a great recommendation video. Thanks.
I really want to read The Troop but I’m nervous it’s gonna be too gross for me. Body horror isn’t my favourite, but I do really like the concept of that book and want to give it a go.
Those are a few limited editions. The one with the cross is Horns by Joe Hill and the other is Revival by Stephen King. I did do a video showing all of my limited editions if you’re interested.
Yo! Fun to se reviews of Dean Koontz books no that many out there! I myself bought a big lot of paperbacks of koontz and the one u reviewed i have so definetly going to be my next Koontz read! I have mixed feelings bout Koontz read 3 novels only 1 I liked sofar xD
Good list. I added a few of these to my to read next list and can’t wait to jump into them. I must say though, maybe don’t be as spoilery with the plots. I You said “it ends up being” a lot on this list and it did ruin the “mystery” out of the books, specially “The Troop” and “The Taking”. Great list though.
Does anyone have a recommendations about horror books with teenagers that find something in the woods or something. You know like a slasher/urban legend book?
@@jimmymango yeah its always an eBay job and they fetch around £40-£80 depending. Our second hand book shops don’t supply many. Your collection is incredible.
Great recommendations. Funny how I am a huge horror consumer and I have never read any Koontz 😆😂 maybe one day! Indie horror is fanfreakintastic such unique raw original reads that will have you just shocked. That’s what I feature 99% of the time on my channel 🖤 I’ll have to check out the ones I have not read.
@@jimmymango Hey that would be awesome thanks! YES if you are looking for obscure!! and incredibly unique Indie/small press horror is where it's at. Not that traditionally published is bad at all the authors just may not be able to push the limits as much with their writing or where they want the story to go where as with indie and small press they can and the story comes out incredibly unique and gory!

Swan song
I totally agree! They are very different and both good in their own ways.
What's the red book at the back with the cross on it? and the one beneath that? Please!
They are limited editions. The red one is Horns by Joe Hill and the other is Revival by Stephen King.

Insomnia is amazing, I have to reread it every couple of years.
What do u think of goosebump books. I would like a vid about thoughts on those would be cool man. Great vid btw.
Goosebumps are great kids horror. I used to read them when I was in grade school.

Good to hear! I haven’t had too many comments from Koontz fans. I’ve been working my way through his novels ever since I finished all of King.

Swan Song!!! I love that and revisit it every couple of years
Come back Mr. Mango! We need you!
The troop fucked me up ahaha. Worms...ugh! I didn't think the animal cruelty was there just for shock value.
I really want to read The Troop but I’m nervous it’s gonna be too gross for me. Body horror isn’t my favourite, but I do really like the concept of that book and want to give it a go.
Yeah I would recommend you give it a try. There will be some uncomfortable parts for you but overall it’s a very well written novel.
What books in red are those on the shelf? The one with the cross and the other with lightening?
Those are a few limited editions. The one with the cross is Horns by Joe Hill and the other is Revival by Stephen King.
I did do a video showing all of my limited editions if you’re interested.
There is a Netflix series called The Rain which sounds a lot like The Taking, I think it’s a German TV programme! 😊
I think it is Danish and it is very good.
thank you for the cat FYI on the Troop. i cannot read about animal torture..its the one thing i can't tolerate in a book . Great recommendations!

Hope you are doing well!
There is a sequel to The Reapers Are the Angels, titled Exit Kingdom. I guess they are considered YA.
That’s interesting. I had no idea there was a sequel. Thanks for that!
The first 3 books are already in my Amazon cart, even before I watched this video.
I’ll have to check out The Taking and The Reapers. Both sound very good. 👍🏻📖

Good list but as someone who just started The Troop, I didn't like how you suddenly spoiled the worm thing.

Try ‘Into the Hollow’ by Ethan Blake
@@jimmymango Keep them coming, i have to find someone translated in my native language haha
‘Summer of Night’ by Dan Simmons. The kids are younger than teens but it kinda has Stephen King’s IT vibes if that’s what you’re looking for.
