I remember watching this series back in 2003 on Toonami it was great

Got to appreciate that diskotek keeps some older shows in circulation I got the medabots sets a while ago
One of the things I found really intriguing about about Discotek working on this is that when Sony dumped everything that they had on the show they even had original television Master tapes that were made for the US broadcast. What I didn't like is Sony basically shoved all the 5.1 audio tracks into a bag and forgot about it. some of those tracks were permanently damaged and they went back and basically made a new 5.1 track it's not really a fake track it's just a new remix. I also bought this Blu-ray set and it's quite sad that on the back of the case it doesn't talk about the PowerPoint slideshow (whatever you want to call it) where he talks about the struggles in restoring this. In my opinion the Japanese DVD still look Superior but this is passable at best and that's why I purchased it. One thing that b-dub forgot to mention is that the final three episodes were never broadcast in the US or Australia. It was a great surprise to Discotek and the fans that it was even dubbed in the first place.

Honestly they could've done a little more clean up on the second half of the show. With a few scripts here and there, I can clean up some of the issues that came from the bad transfers (Sony sucks at that) like color/chroma warping, ringing, dot crawling, and those darn rainbows from bad interlacing/telecining. It's not perfect but it looked better than out of the box. I also rather have it at progressive than interlaced. Retrocrush which uses Discotek version of this show did a bad job at deinterlacing because visual artifacts appear quite a bit. Good thing I have the physical so I can just get rid of my issues myself.

Binge watched this on RetroCrush. It’s so good and definitely the most faithful to the manga, albeit with a few things here and there censored for violence. I wish they would continued the Battle of Gods arc but I think Ishinomori was dead by then? Then again there’s no way they’d get away with showing what happened there on screen if they decided to adapt the novel at the target age demographic of the show. Main cast members were being dismembered.

M
