That's not much information to go on. If it was installed to the Regs in force at the time then it's OK. If it's being moved or reinstalled then it has to be installed to the current Regs. All Tesla chargers need external PEN protection or have to be installed as a TT configuration, which usually means fitting an earth rod. There is noone answer to such an open ended question
Hi great video. Just wondering does this unit have any load limiting technology to protect the main fuse? Never installed one of these usually install Zappis - nice and easy lol
Not that I can remember Andrew. It's not a product that's particularly UK friendly. You could stick a current limiter upstream if needed. Matt-E do something with built in PEN protection, which you've got to fit anyway. Make sure you've done your diversity calculations and notified the DNO. Unless the maximum demand is already high a 100A cutout is usually fine
Hi Gary - How much to fit Tesla Wall Connector in Sale. Easy cable run just through wall 3 feet. Have some 16mm armoured. What’s the script with pen protection you mentioned?
Hi Stephen. It's not that straightforward. Send me an enquiry from my website and I'll send a digital survey or do a physical site survey. 16mm armoured is too big btw. Won't fit in terminals. Need 4 or 6 depending on installation. Tesla Wall Connector needs separate PEN protection. DNO application process still applies. No grant on Tesla either
PEN protection is a different thing to type of RCD, although if you use the Matt-E or similar it makes sense to combine them. As far the RCD type I can't remember for the Tesla as I don't fit many, so check the manual. It needs to incorporate a 6mA RDC-DD, so that would really be a Type B RCD from memory. It's not the sort of thing you come across on a regular basis
It's a few years ago and I can't remember. As far as EV installs go, you pretty much have to assume it's TNC-S or PME anyway, as even if it looks TNS at the house, it'll almost certainly be PME in the road
Nice one Gary. Cheers for making the vid. Did you have any problems linking the wall connector to wifi? I have heard they can be a bit of a nightmare...
Hi Matthew. The honest answer is that I can't even remember connecting it to WiFi, so it must have been pretty easy. It's the only Tesla I've fitted, so I'd just have followed the instructions. Most modern devices seem to create a temporary WiFi network that you access from your phone and then you just enter the network details and password and then you're in
@@abcelectric Hey mate. Cheers for taking the time to get back to me. It's always a good sign if we can't rememeber an install, I say! lol I have been doing a bit of nosing around on the question and it seems that its the old 2.4 / 5Ghz wifi issue again. To be honest I have to deal with that on a weekly basis so its not a real worry. All the best mate; keep up the great vids!
Specialist in tricky cable routes - we'll remember that 😂👍🏻
So I have an old ten year old charger basic connection. I’ll take it that this needs protection as well?

@@abcelectric thanks Gary - decided to wait a bit … will give you a shout when we’re ready
Morning what type pen protection can you use for the tesla 3 charger type a or b or is either ok
