I swear Pete, you need to take all of these insane intros, hook up with a great rock singer, and turn these into full songs / make an album. They're that good man.
Thanks!
I couldn't agree more , I find myself searching through all you're content for my favourite intro's
@@PeteThorn I agree with kuhboom22! The intro song is amazing!
@@gooseGoose-et1wl LOL I do the same thing, I have some favorites saved :)
No. The guitar sings loud and resonant enough. It's the star. A vocalist, no.
The signal chain advice on buffers in relationship to placement before fuzz, treble boosters, etc., is rare wisdom and sage advice that is not commonly known, or disseminated - thanks Pete!
Happy to help!
The pedals aren’t my cup of tea- but
you are a beast. I hope young players are picking up on what you’re putting down. It’s important to have real guitar hero’s. More now than ever. Rock on Brother Pete
Thanks for watching and listening!
As I said, Pete Thorn, the greatest of all time. Bar none.
I wish I could say something different than every other time, but this above all must be said.
THANK YOU, P. Thorn, for all the wonderful emotions.
Totally unexpected product with Friedman's name. At first I thought it sounds like nothing special, but throughout the demo song I changed my mind to "Pete Thorn makes everything sound good so I don't know if I can trust his demos anymore" ;) At least have to keep in mind not to buy everything that sounds good on this channel. I like how you go in-depth in how you used the gear in what you heard first to make your initial impression. You as a viewer will never get confused about what you are doing with it. You carry the demonstration of how it changes the sound with the commentary. You kinda teach how to get sounds and signal chains in modern contexts at the same time. Like this signal chain isn't your standard at all.
Impressive that they managed to fit in a tube there. I don't care how it's built per se, but it does do a good preamp job. Sounds juicy.
i usually skip the intro but you killed it man. cheers
C'mon, Pete. That intro song was simply killer!
Thanks Pete that was a very good representation of these pedals and good explanation how they work in the signal chain. Now I wanna buy both of these.
Thanks again Pete..!! You are not only a great guitar player but also an outstanding composer..!!
Love that PT15 of yours Pete. Great Swiss army knife type of sound. Thanks again for your great work and contribution to the music community!
First: Killer demo tune. You make better demo tracks than most people make albums.
Second: I'm updating my original comment as I was listening to your demo while checking out the website and getting the email for the ebay link. After your video I watched Marty's video on their site. I noticed something which made my original hunch even more clear. These pedals DEFINITELY sound killer and do EXACTLY as advertised, tone wise. But the tubes are psychosomatic. The proof lies in the fact that the tubes should glow even when the pedal isn't engaged. That's how tubes work. These tubes are only lit by clear LEDs underneath them that turn on and off with the pedal. I left my original comment below, but the reality is, those pedals don't use enough power to get the necessary plate voltage to a preamp tube. Again, they sound killer and may mimic the effect of preamp tubes, but they are totally implying it's tube technology. Even in Marty's video, he says something about "the tone you can only get from tubes." It's not tube, but it sounds like it.
*original comment:
Second: These pedals definitely sound great, but I'm curious if it's more to do with the circuit than the tube itself. The placement of the tube may be a psychosomatic effect for the romance of tubes. Does the preamp pedal have a beefier power supply than the buffer? The presale for the preamp isn't up yet, but the Beyond "Tube" buffer runs on a 9V power supply with a current draw below 160mA. That generally means the tube isn't really doing much beyond lighting up. This is why people complain that pedal platform tube preamps can't be powered by pedal board power supplies, except for things like the Cioks DC7 or something, because they usually require around 1A of power to get the necessary plate voltage to the tube. 160mA is likely just getting the tube to glow and look cool. Dan Steinhardt has pointed out a lot of pedals touted as tube pedals that have tubes in them that simply glow, noting the lack of necessary power to achieve the necessary plate voltage. But a lot of builders know that no matter how authentic a circuit sounds, people's prejudices will override what they hear. 😕
Theres only a couple of you on UA-cam doing pedal demos and you are probably THE BEST..,imo, A young guy, named David Curtis demos ElectroHarmonix stuff, and is a very tasty creative player too. You two really know how to get the best out of each pedal you demo.
The Beyond Tube Pre into the Friedman pedal into the power amp sounded amazing!
It is the friedman into the beyond tube into the power amp ;-)
@@Rigjoker64 Right you are, my bad. still sounds incredible :-)
Really great tones! Great playing as well Pete! Great combination of influences, feel and personality.
Pete you continue to the blow the lid off these demos man, welcome 2021, and welcome Pete Thorn's blistering guitar tones, very inspiring to me !
Thanks!
Just saw these on Marty Friedmans channel like last week and was wondering who would be the first on my channels to review it. Glad it was you Pete!
That clean tone is amazing.....
That intro was amazing! You should make it into a full-length single, if you haven't añready! 😀
Pete your playing continues to amaze me! Great hands, the tone just pours out of them!
Thanks Kim!
Gorgeous creativity, playing and composition as always, Pete! Phenomenally gorgeous phatness from these two pedals! Thanks for the extra details and usage examples.
As ever Pete very tasty playing. Happy New and God bless for 2021.
Nice, a recent chain of mine is: Digitech XP100 -> Stew Mac Tube Screamer (DIY) -> Orange Micro Dark Input - > Orange Micro Dark FX Send -> UA Apollo Hi-Z -> Favorite UA Unison Amp (like Pete's) with the Preamp in the UA Amp Sim disabled. With this I get the Orange Micro Dark Tube preamp instead of the preamp of the UA Amp Sim.
That new chair sounds fantastic!!!
Great video as always
Ha! The sound of silence!
2021 off to a good start! Fun stuff, loved the intro, great jam. Sounds like Marty has a good thing going with these releases. Long way from his
Hawaii/Cacophony days!!!
Pete you consistently make some of the most sonically interesting stuff. Always nodding along hard!!
I keep coming back to this video to listen to the intro over and over!! Sounds to me like a perfect blend of Pink Floyd + Joe Satriani, so tasty!!
Hey there Pete , another great demo, cool track u made too bro! Sounds wicked as! Thanks again for all your work your do for keeping me and other guitarists around the world inspired and up to date with all the latest tech! Much appreciated!
Thanks!
the effect sound around 13:50 is just divine.........
Awesome tune, I especially love your videos because of the great music , thx !
Thank you Kurt!
God, that Strat tone is JUICY
Great sounds man ! Excellent video
Happy new year Pete!
Just purchased a Suhr Reactive Load...can't wait!
I'll finally be able to use my real tube amps at home again ;-)
Wow! What a badass tune!!! So motivated to live!!!!
Awesome song, playing and sound....on a funnier note....youtube slapped an advertisement right in the middle of the hot part of the song of a guy taking a dump....talk about a mood killer!
Thats a great lead tone, retains the bell tones above the 12th fret on the neck pup too - thats a big factor for me.
Really good song on the intro!
13:40 - 14:00 this is great riff. It sounds like some sample of 80s super hit. Love it. BTW I bought both of them for my pedalboard rig. Great stuff but pricey.
Dang, Pete, that was one seriously awesome piece of music!
Thanks!
Man this is a killer track, Pete. Wow 🤘
Thanks!!
I like what your doing with these pedals.
nice man really enjoyed those sweet clean tones and ripping leads! Saw you on Beato's channel were Tim asked you about producing your videos.....awesome stuff man its a testament to your creativity, and by now you must just wipe them out lol its been a while doing them. Dont stop!!
Thank you Peter!
Does anyone else watch these just for Pete's playing in the intro jam? Does Pete have an album? If so I'll buy it.
Pete Thorn II and Guitar Nerd! :)
@@PeteThorn Where are they available? Itunes?
It's always about the music. And Pete's music happens to be the finest man has ever crafted. Pete oozes musical virtuosity.
Oh. It’s on.
0:38 my favorite guitar you have! I always know it's about to get real when you bust that guy out.
KILLER tones.
I’m not surprised this is a great product Marty is all about quality 👍
I hear a little Jeff Beck influence Peter? Great one to be influenced or inspired by. You both are real tone monsters. Awesome as usual!!
Really appreciate your thoughts, ideas and suggestions .
Great tone!!!
It's about time he had signature pedals made...... that man is a legend in his time!
Interesting Marty would put his name on any pedal considering he's always saying he hates tweaking anything. And pedals with tubes in them rarely sell. Of course that Vox Tonelab was and is still great. I wish them well. But I don't expect great sales. Pete you rock and Marty will always be special to me. Happy New Year guy
Next episode, Pete plays through a Placebo pedal and rocks the house down!
Opening.. Alan Parsons on steroids. Awesome!
I have an old mesa boogie vtwin preamp pedal that I sometimes run into the power amp of my pv 6505. It sounds absolutely amazing. But hey, its a boogie.
You want a high voltage tho, I use a fryette gpdi cuz it’s packed with features but the small valvulator does the tube buffer as well but with power outputs for pedals
Great demo!
Landau bends... nice man🤘🎸
Great stuff thanks for your knowledge!
very cool track
Thank you sooooo much for your incredible knowledge!!! Love it!!!
Thanks!
I used my british joyo pedal at the end of the chain clean Chanel I used as an eq works the same from what Ian herring
The reason that distortion and overdrive pedals sound lacklustre when plugged directly into an effects return is because they were voice to be plugged into the front end of an amp-in particular a Fender amp such as Twin or Deluxe.
C'mon Pete - stop teasing us . . . " put that Song-intro, out on an Album" - already.
It's too good brother, It Can't-be . . . just for product demo's. I enjoy your playing, more then the pedals. Happy New Year from NYC
@@michael_caz_nyc Thanks so much man!
@@PeteThorn that clean sound is amazing as well. Very Eric Johnson-esque
Album track!
Great review!!! Some very cool pedals.
Thinking about buying this to go between my guitar and boss katana, I don't use any pedals and want a warmer tone
Wow that's a good song🥰
Hi, this vid is a couple years old, but I recently came across these "Tube" pedals and have a question. These days I'm running a pedal board into a SD Powerstage 170 poweramp, and wondering if the Tube Preamp Pedal would add a nice tube feel and warmth to my system. I play metal, so it's mostly boosted high gain. Sounds great honestly. But has the obvious lack of tube feel and warmth. I'm mostly worried about over equalizing the system. Has a lot already. Had/have Tube amps for years. I'm older now and like todays smaller products. Lol. Easier to gig with. Think Pete said this goes after pedals, before amp. Wondering if it's worth it. Thanks

:30 mark sounds like something off Diver Down. Very Eddie :)
Pretty cool pedal ideas! I wonder how the buffer would work with another buffer in front of it, (meaning a buffer at the beginning of the pedal board, and this one at the end of the pedal board)?
Your demonstration in the video of how the guitar sounds with the Friedman OD direct into the power amp, and with the preamp between them illustrates a very similar point I've tried to make using IR's from your pedal board into your DAW, without a power amp simulation in between them. There is that same element of your sound that is missing. Maybe I'm the only one who hears that.
Cool video Pete! Thank you and Happy New Year!
Morning Pete!
Was wondering how you think this would do running into a C.A.B. with PA emulation on?
My latest rig is a Soldano pre pulling exactly that duty and it sounds great, changing the tone by swapping speaker cabs using footswtiching was liberating.
Something smaller than my rack unit would be awesome.
HAPPY NEW YEAR 🥳👏👏👏🖤💛🧡❤💜💙💚🤪
Happy New Year!
Nice intro!!!
Dang dude!! 👍😜
I think this would be good to use into the effects return of my peavey bandit 112
I really wish someone who makes these videos would use them in a human live band mix.
Then it really will showcase what makes it special and would greatly showcase how it works with the amp being used.
Bring back Sound City!!!!!
In the section with the Explorer, it sounds like there's some phasing stuff going on, like there's a few ms delay in the signal, even though there's no delay listed. Is that an effect in the DAW, how it was mic'd in the room, or is the preamp doing something to the signal?
Well Master Thorn, I bet you can’t make things sound bad....cuz you can make kite string sing! Jam on and thank you.
There’s no way you get paid enough for these demos. I don’t think I’m going out on a limb to say that you’re responsible for selling more gear because of these amazing demos than any other on YT. Hope the manufacturers appreciate this fact.
Ya, Pete and @Mike Hermans are the best I've seen. I'm sure there are tons of others, but these guy have super strong production level for a legit representation and of course, are fantastic players.
You probably dont care at all but does anyone know a tool to get back into an Instagram account?
I somehow forgot the login password. I appreciate any tricks you can give me
@Keaton Byron instablaster ;)
@Kamryn Damian i really appreciate your reply. I got to the site through google and I'm trying it out now.
Seems to take a while so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
@Kamryn Damian It worked and I now got access to my account again. I am so happy:D
Thank you so much you saved my account !
3:15 pm west coast time?
This is exactly what my hd500x needs going into my Blackstar Artist 15 fx return! I’ve been saying it seems pretty lifeless even using the modeled preamps
Where did you find that Ibanez destroyer. Please do a demo on how to make it into a Sharkbite. No, forget that, Eddie said it never sounded as good after he massacred it.
Pete, I just bought the pT100 UAD2, OH MY GOD I THINK IS THE BEST OF ALL THE UAD2 AMPS!!!, well also the Fender Deluxe 57, but what an amazing piece of (digital) Gear, if the plug ins version sounds this good, it really makes me want to start a piggy bank to buy the PT15!! Feliz año!!!! Greetings from México
Yea it’s a good one! They knocked it outta the park
@@PeteThorn thanks for a wonderfull yeah Pete, it was more bearable thanks to the reviews and wonderful content :)
Wicked!
Pretty crazy he has pedals for tone .. I've seen plenty of interviews where he claims he doesn't care about tone and just plays the way someone sets his amp ?
I know, right?
$$$$$
If your only using the power amp off the Suhr pt , could you hi straight into the interface or would you still need the attenuator , awesome vid as always thanks for all your hard work and happy new yield Pete . Stay safe 🤘🏻⚡️👍🎸
You could certainly add some speaker sim and go straight in, but the coloration and drive character of the output tubes/transformer would be lost. Still it would work! May sound good. I didn’t try that setup
Wonder if you can put the pre amp before a Helix then put the buffer at output?
Pete have you tried this with a fractal axe effects
Inspired
Shit man your demo tracks are things I want to just listen to. I forget you're showing off a piece of gear.
Thanks!
does that buffer work at line level ...as in the effects loop of an amplifier? it could solve some problems if it did
You're so inventive remind me of Steve lukeather
Pete I need your help man how can I get a new fender tone master deluxe reverb ( the new one without tubes) to sound more like a “tube” amp I’m thinking this pedal would work to help me get that extra warmth out of the solid state but fender did do a great job capturing those tube tones but it just needs a little push
I will do a video
Should have written an anime intro to really show them off.
Would this pre-amp be a good choice as a booster running a hollowbody direct into a mixer?
Sure!
@@PeteThorn thanks so much!
Nice écho, Beautiful sound !
Have a Happy and nice Year !
Somehow you got me looking at the Mobius instead, lol.
It’s great, man. Great flange, chorus, trem, lofi box
Hello Pete, can you compare these to Kingsley preamps?
Haven’t tried the Kingsley’s
@@PeteThorn its unfortunate, that besides That Pedal show, I cant find any videos or comparation to Kingsley pedals. They are kinda expensive, just to try the based on 1 reviewer (even of TPS fame).
Newb question: if your xlr cables are super long, do you need a buffer for those?
I think this is what you want for xlr cables ......ua-cam.com/video/G-nhx2eHZ4A/v-deo.html
Usually XLR lines are balanced- unless they are XLR to 1/4" unbalanced or RCA. I don't really know about super long XLR lines with say, dynamic mics, my understanding is that it's not the same as long guitar cables
