I'm planning to get this, and incorporate it in to my midi controlled pedalboard. Signal chain would be pre-fx (overdrives, boosts, compressor) into the IR-X, and then out from the IR-X into an HX Effects for all the gooey stuff. Out from the HX in stereo, into a UA OX Stomp, straight to FOH.
There would also be a preset for running the rig in full wet/dry/wet, if there's an amp on stage to take advantage of the FX Send on the IR-X, to connect to the return on the stage amp.
maybe not the best : you have 3 channels +boost with the Revolt (beautiful sound )

Amazing vid guys! I just bought it and LOVE it. However - what is the routing for running it as a preamp into the FX return of an AMP? If I want to include other pedals? Namely a POD GO? (this also has an FX loop and standard outs). Any help much appreciated! Thank you

Hey guys, this is probably my favorite sounding demo of the IR-X, I just ordered mine yesterday. Did you use some kind of room reverb or something in post or in a pedal at the 12 minute mark? I'd like to get mine to sound just like this, thanks! Oh and what bridge pickup is in that LP? Sounds killer!
Sounds beatiful all across! If they could only add a function for presets like Sansamp PSA-1 or PSA-2 it'd be heaven.

Nice video 😊 Would be helpful though to see exactly which IR was being used at the time though. Pretty tough to see those tiny switches as you move them.

Can you plug it in to a head which has build in effects like a Boss Katana and then use it with those effects, reverb, delay etc? And would you recommend it?

Hey, thank you! Yes indeed, you can bypass the IR's if you press and hold the Channel I footswitch. Same for the Channel II footswitch: that bypasses the FX loop. Cheers //Kris

Can't help but notice you keep using the main gain controls when the boost is activated, yet the boost channels gain controls are independat and located on the side of the pedal; the top mounted ones aren't changing the sound you're hearing 😉
17 years being a digital guy, bought my first tube amp less than one year ago from thomann, a engl fireball 25w, perfect german enginnering, like my telefunken speakers from 1953, and i will never turn back again to digital amps. I am still using a hx stomp in 4cm and i will keep it cause why not, i have everything there to shape the real amp, and i can record the sound of the amp with IR loaded in the HX stomp through the fx-loop. Maybe i will try the new analog Keeley pedal with the TS808 mode and the OD mode, just to see if i can squeeze a bit more of hi-fi. In my country there is a saying, translating is something like this "Nobody wants to go from horse to donkey".

@@StratsRUs We had no information in my area at that time, few people know how to handle correctly a tube amp, and people feared it cause valves were and are expensives. I am from a less developed area in my country so only in the big city you had information about the ins and outs of using a tube amp. With youtube development that info came to us all and now is easy to take a decision and use the money wisely.

Can it do 4-cable method? If you set it up to play as a preamp...does that remove the "IR" from the signal? How do you turn off the cab sim? I like a lot about the pedal, and it is only giving the 2-notes Revolt a run for its money if it has 4-cable method and the abilty to turn off cab sim.
Not sure about 4 cable method, but you can definitely turn off cab sim by long pressing the channel 1 footswitch.
That riff sounded a bit like Green Manalishi by the old Fleetwood Mac. Would have been nice to hear more clean sounds from this, not everyone uses tons of drive 😉

Love the sound of Friedman Amps get the Friedman sound for a thousand or more less. I'm in
I was thinking of getting a second CaptorX to travel with, just to play amped guitar in a room alone with headphones. This seems like a cheaper alternative and I wouldn't have to lug another amp. The only concern I would have is that I am not a high gain/modern player, more 70's dinosaur rock. Although the cleans did sound great, didn't hear much edge of breakup.
What is that gorgeous Tele? (I'm hearing "Moving in Stereo" as the video slows to 1/4 speed...)
Amazing product and great demo as usual. However I have a question: I play through a Vox AC30 from 1960 and I love it, the only problem is that it doesn't have an FX Loop so will this Friedman preamp sound good if plugged directly in front of my Vox amp? If someone could give me an answer it will be very appreciated because this amp belongs to my father and it is part of our family.
Its not designed to be used infront of an amp. You will be better off with the friedman overdrive pedal infront
Despite it is not designed for that, it could be used in the front of the amp, however it is going to mix with the flavour of vox preamp too, it will scalate the overdrive structure as you have some preamp tubes in vox increasing the signal of the 12AX preamp tubes of the IR-X, but it could even make your sound unique, and spicer, there are no rules if it sounds good.
For instance I have my Hx Stomp XL pre amp, but in front of it I use my Bogner Ecstasy blue to preamp to make it more organic, and the sound gets more flexible and complex, I just need to be carefull with distortion to avoid it oversaturate the same, and it rings like a bell!
Use a different amp. Just because it was your dads doesnt mean you have to use it all the time
can this unit go straight into a cab for a rehearsal or does it only go in the front of an amp?

You must have any sort of power amp to connect it to a real cab. You can also run it in front of house at the same time using the send output

The price in the UK is almost the same as in Germany. The pedal is made in the USA, so it's not surprising that it's cheaper there.
Can you use this with a digital power amp and cabinet?

For the sake of my tonal analysis…what pickups are inis in that LP? Middle pos cleans with the muds rolled back on the IRX were beautiful and then the bridge chunks especially with the inverted power chords were BRUTAL.
Haha, yeah insanely good pickups. Also I have a treble bleed mod for the neck pickup (helps when you roll back the neck volume knob) -> tho.mn/kljt9

With one balanced out, how can you run to front of house and to a frfr cab for personal stage monitoring? Thanks in advance
Hi, I guess the best way is to use a DI box after the IR-X to split the balanced signal. DI out goes to FOH, DI through goes to the direct frfr monitoring. Or you just get the monitor sound from the mixer. Then you don't even have to do anything special. //Kris

It was great in 2023 lol but before you had a lot of tube preamp pedals : Legacy, Mesa Boogie, Blackstar, Two notes (3 channels +boost ) etc. so nothing's new except a different sound
only Blackstar had IRs in their unit (and now Friedman), others are just preamps or preamp + analog speaker sim (which is a very compromised solution tonewise). Preamp alone is not a big deal without power amp simulator and IR. Blackstar and Friedman did complete unit bringing together best of analog and digital worlds. Tonewise I found Friedman to be perfect, Blackstar is just good.
I don't 100% get preamp pedals. Can they be used in a setup that goes into the front of an amp as well? Let's say the pedal is part of your signature sound, and you bring it on a gig where the only option is the one jack cable they put in your hand.
If the amp has an FX loop, you should be able to put it into the return. But a preamp into another preamp usually sounds pretty terrible.
Anyone knows the midy functions ?? Is It likes a modeller ?? Can i save each sound with different parameters in each Botton of the midi pedalboard?

Hi people i need your guys insight, i have friedman ir x, everything feels so great, i love the sound of both channels, but i got one thing that annoyed me. I run some modulation, reverb, delay pedals into fx loop send return, everytime i switch between channel to channel, there is some noise when i click the switch, sounds like “kkrrt” and it happen only when i strum the string and i switch the channel. But when the guitar is silent everything is fine there is no strange noise. If i bypass the fx loop, everything is fine no noise at all in every condition, I tried many ways to handle it by re route my pedal , change cable, etc,but nothing changed. Does anyone have the some problem with me? And what is the solution?

For just a clean boost, set everything flat, if your guitar mids are too scooped you can boost these

Sound quality, tube. But for gigging, the solid state stuff is easier on the back

I had the dual solid-state version of the BE-100 in a pedal and it was horrible, compared to its amplifier counterpart. I feel like this thing is missing some light but much needed power amp clipping.

It's literally the tube preamp of a Friedman amp. And then it also has a power amp sim and IR section.
Nice sounding preamp, but to be honest for that same price I can buy something like an Orange Super Crush 100 head, a Blackstar HT20RH Valve Head or less pricey Marshall heads 👌👍
I do agree, but they're a different category, in my opinion. I'd buy such a pedal exactly so I didn't have to carry around heads and cabs or loadboxes to gigs and rehearsals.
If you got a bring your own monitors to hear your new preamp, why not just bring your amps? Not to mention I own Friedman amps

I really don't see this thing as useful and more of a novelty. For $300-500, one could get a full-featured modeler, like Atomic Amplifier with SHARC DSP, 12 footsw., and more than 1 trick pony! imo
Hi, this one doesn't compete with modellers though, it's for very different players. This is competition for amps with a loadbox+cab sim. If versatility is priority 1 for you, of course get a modeller. 👍 //Kris

don't use then, others will be happy without it, sounds amazing without any cuts, and if we use one for recording, we always do the cutting in the DAW anyway.

Yes you can. You turn off the cab Sim by holding down the channel 1 footswitch 👍
