It's not easy to impress hard-core tube amp fans with an amp alternative. Modellers sound great but the playing feel, the reaction and the experience of using them is... well, different.

Yeah man, it is the full experience of playing a huge and pricey tube amp (and cab). It’s not a budget preamp but compared to that rig it’s a bargain.

Sounds truly amazing.. having tried this cab sim technology from tsakalis Audio works I can safely say that there is a big difference in feel compared to IRs. It's a feel thing like playing through an amp so you can only experience it in your fingers and dynamics response. Definitely will give this a go.. you can't go wrong with a tube overdrive...
Great demo as usual! Have you been able to deep into MIDI features? Which parameters could we change / save with MIDI?
I love the versatility of this and the range of gain and tone

I have the Tsakalis Gravity Spot which is an all tube high gain pedal & is truly heavenly. Try it, you'll love it!
I've had a preamp/cab sim for 30 years, the Award Session JD10.
Beautiful demo !!! Wich do you prefer? Friedman or Mothership? For me a preference to Mothership.

Hello Kris. Thanks a lot for another great content. Currently debating between this one and the IR-D.
I prefer the sound and functionnaties of the mothership but it seems too miss a very important detail for my use and I can’t find a confirmation anywhere : is the Mothership’s effect loops activable by midi as the one on the IR-D is ?
The Tsakalis app looks way less refined. Could you please confirm that aspect ?

Hi, both are awesome, absolutely. If you want to turn the fx loop on and off via midi, you need the IR-D. The Mothership‘s loop is always on. Cheers!
Is anyone making a tube driven preamp more based on high headroom clean tones?
Can you use both outputs at the same time? ex: Cab out to FOH and pre/power to stage amp?

Nice but too pricey for me considering other options. I prefer the distortions on their competition, the Friedman boxes. My 2 cents: they should have put the LED for channel 1B in the row with channel 1 at the upper left and not shared the LED with channel 2B. Love the Greeks!

Hey, I'm pretty sure there is something going on in there but it doesn't say anywhere what and how.
One thing is sure, it sounds and feels just "right" and to be honest, that's mostly what I care about, haha! Cheers!

The MOTHERSHIP features an onboard all analog tube-like power amp simulation for the CAB output. This high grade analog circuit emulates the feel and the character of EL34 power tubes in push pull topology providing punch and sag when needed.

You’re right, this is not really a budget solution. That being said, I don’t know of any other product that does all three: tube preamp, overdrive and incredible cab sim. Especially not on such a high level.
So it really is a matter of perspective. It’s much cheaper than a multi channel tube Marshall (e.g. a JVM) plus a Captor X. 😅

Excellent if you don't like how the Friedmans sound and want double the voicings per channel.
In this sample, I seem to prefer this pedal over the Friedman… the samples I’ve heard of the Friedman sound “just” like an overdrive pedal.. But I haven’t played either of them in person… I’d love to do a head-to-head… 🤔
Since this one was done and released at the NAMM Show in January it's hard to call it a knockoff. The only two similarities are 1. built-in cab sim and 2. both channels have the three gain stages.
The Friedman isn't made for using it in front of the amp (only as a preamp going into the fx return) and the Mothership uses the same self-developed cab simulation as their MultiCab4 pedal, not IRs like the Friedmans.
Long story short: they are very similar but definitely sound different and a few relevant features are also different. Cheers!
Been using the IR-D the last couple weeks. Very impressed. I have a feeling we’re gonna see a lot of these things popping up
Doesn't look like a knockoff other then the shape, format and layout.
Friedman does support 50ms IR plus all the one you want as well as Poweramp simulation with even less latency!
Then you have the headphone and balanced out and you can run it at 9V.
Here you are stuck with the ones provided. Maybe they will come up with a better version 2 with better digital backend to get on par with Friedman offering!
At the end it doesn't really matter as more products and competition is always better for guitarists!
