    I dig the bathtub floor Brother. Keep Up The Great Ideas!!!

    Great idea with the cork balls. I've made bathtub floors using plastic sheets by folding the corners at an angle and taping with gorilla tape. At each corner, one piece of tape is vertical and the other horizontal along the fold. Where the two pieces meet the is where I punch hole and attach a elastic cord to my tarp. I am going to try your method, which looks better and stronger than the tape method. Instead of the the net tent inside the tarp, I fasten the netting around the edges of the tarp like a skirt. On my 8 x 10 ft tarp, the netting is is sewn on. Along the 10 ft sections i have rectangular strips, and along the 8 ft sides I have triangular sections which form a door which I close with small clips. I can use this setup in ground mode or with my 9-ft hammock. I am in the process of modifying my 10x7x5 tapered tarp to include the netting, but this time I will attach the netting using velcro tabs sewn on the tarp and netting strips. I would enjoy seeing your ideas for creating a beak with polycro. I'm thinking about that, but have not come up with a good system.

    Very nice. I built a polycryo tub for my Hexamid Solo Plus along similar lines. Same weight and quite a bit cheaper than the ZPacks DCF version. 😁

    A pocket tarp if you have a pocket of money, overpriced is an understatement

    Great ideas. My Z-PT is still in the mail to me, will take two weeks to be here on the other side of the planet. I think your idea is great with a solo windshield to one side. For me I will use in the beginning my IP64 watertight Rucksack as a weather shield, if wind does turn. However, the beak guy line can be used as a ridge line and just put a small tarp over it. Something like a triangle shape would be best. However, if you shield too much, like a full front shield, you will suffer more condensation issues...for sure. So to me a one side triangle shield attached to the beak guy line should be the best. First rule in a tent setup is anyways to pitch in the correct wind direction and to check the weather app up front. A fully 180 degrees turning wind at night would be just bad luck :)

      My thinking is very similar to yours for sure. I'm pretty good about checking the weather and also use topography to keep me in a protected micro climate too. I've thought about the triangle piece a lot. I will likely keep a rectangular piece and use the same "button" tech that I'm using on the ground sheet for making my protective panel the shape I need at that time. Then I could take that panel and make a porch cover or other mods depending on the weather of the day. Your comment and thoughts are awesome and I really appreciate them. Thank you!

    Net sagging in the center near your head seems annoying.

      It can be. Typically, when I use the netting, I'll make a little adjustment at the peak once I'm in for the night. The little things that need to be dealt with are part of having such a light weight setup. There's no zipper entry either, I have a little toggle style system at one corner.

    2 years later, any changes you would make?

    • @absadventurebushcraftsurvi9692
      @absadventurebushcraftsurvi9692  3 роки тому +1

      Not really. It's so convertible, I like the versatility of the set up. I thought about creating a zipper entry but decided against it. The nano bug net is something I can use in other setups so I like it the way it is now. It all packs up so light and small.

    I've been looking at doing a similar thing.
    ZPacks Pocket Tarp w/ Doors
    ZPacks Solo-Plus Bathtub
    ZPacks Groundsheet attachment Kit
    Sea to Summit Nano Net
    Sew the Nano Net to the bathtub and add a zipper to the Nano Net
    Based on my best guess estimates, I would be ~ 16 oz for a double wall shelter with 20 sqft of floor space.
    Now I just need to acquire the funds.

      Yeah that sounds like a great set up! If you're sewing (i.e. zipper) then maybe consider just getting the netting and doing it which will be way less $ than getting the already made net. The STS net is way bigger than needed and in my set up I have a lot of it gathered up in the middle under the peak. I like that because I can just untie it and use the net for any number of other optional set ups but in your case just the material might be a good way to go.

    Instead of purchasing a zpacks rain kilt to add to your beak, just bring additional sheet of polycryo. It can double as an extra groundsheet, and temporary beak!

    • @juschill200305
      @juschill200305 5 років тому

      Excellent Idea! Do you think it may be a little too flimsy to handle wind if it gets stormy? That would be my concern. That Polycro is so lightweight though. It would be great to just use that.

    • @theshep64
      @theshep64 4 роки тому +1

      @@juschill200305 if you are willing to put an extra ten minutes in, you can double back the edges and tape them. This will help with tear resistance.

      @@theshep64 Good idea! Pound for pound this polycro stuff is extremely tough but I will make sure to fold over at the corners to increase the tensile strength.

      @absadventurebushcraftsurvi9692  3 роки тому

      It's about 75" x 25" and it fit the sleeping mat in there just fine. It's also far enough inside the tarp canopy to accommodate any wet weather.

    Subbed: would you go alta plex for a 6 foot male or do you think the hexamid pocket tarp is big enough?

    • @absadventurebushcraftsurvi9692
      @absadventurebushcraftsurvi9692  Рік тому

      I'm 6 ' and this works fine. Better have your rain game squared away because there's not much excess room either way you go. I did use this on the Appalachian Trail for a section hike where I got 2" of rain in about a 6 hour period. The shelter worked great but it's just enough room and no more. People say there's room for you and your gear but I don't think so unless you snuggle up with all your stuff. No thanks when everything is wet. I carried a 5' x 7' silnylion tarp with me and set it up near the shelter for gear storage and a place to sit around camp in the pouring rain. It worked perfect and I'll always take that little extra bit of kit on trips. I hope all this helps and makes sense. Happy trails! 😁

    Zpacks now makes a pocket tarp with doors = perfect solution for you? Can you do a video on how you make the bathtub floor with the knots.. like a step by step?

    • @absadventurebushcraftsurvi9692
      @absadventurebushcraftsurvi9692  4 роки тому

      Thanks for the comments. I'll see what I can do about a new video showing the knot setup and other stuff that goes I to making the bathtub floor. It's super easy though, if you can tie a slip knot you can do this. Thanks again!

    Great video. I'm trying to decide on purchasing this. I'm 6'2" and use an inflatable pad with a quilt. I'm wandering if my head or feet will be against the walls??
