  • I install the Solid Shifter Cable Bushings from Sico Developments for Ford Focus RS!
Made from quality aluminium, they are very light weight, strong and really look cool!
This mod from SiCo Developments (same design available from various other sources!) is all about the shift feel and is a worthy upgrade on its own but is especially going to be awesome in combination with all the other shift mods that I have done!
There are variants of this mod available for the Ford Focus RS MK3 (and other Ford models) from other manufacturers as but I chose to go with SiCo Developments because I know they actually use the products they design and I have always had good service from them!
The stock shifter / transmission cable bracket bushings are made from a squishy, soft rubber - they can literally be bent in half with just your fingers! This means that the shifter cables can move quite easily when shifting. The result of this can be a kind of bouncy feeling when trying to shift into some gears causing you to miss them. This is obviously not a good thing, especially when you are on track!
The solid shifter / transmission cable bracket bushings from SiCo Developments are just that - solid - so they will not deform in any way when the shifter position is changed and so will remove the unwanted rubbery flex / movement, making gear shifting feel more 'crisp' and precise leading to a better shifting experience! The change may be simple but should be noticeable, especially when giving it the beans!
What SiCo Developments say about the transmission bracket bushing upgrade:
Take the feel of your shifter to the next level with this set of CNC machined billet aluminium transmission cable bracket bushings. The bracket that secures your shifter cables uses soft rubber bushings that allow for too much flex when shifting causing sloppy, missed shifts. You will see that the accuracy of your shifts will dramatically improve immediately after installing this set of bushings. This is because you will be removing the excess flex that is seen from the OEM rubber bushings.
The installation is fairly easy - I was expecting it to be much more hassle but really it was pretty methodical, doing one logical step and then the next. You can do the install with minimal tools - basic trim tool/screwdriver, sockets and spanners. The most difficult part was popping off the cable ends off their ball ends as I have the solid cable end bushings already which makes them rather tight so if you are still stock in that regard then you will be fine!
Check out how to install the part, from start to finish beginning with removing the bracket and stock bushings, all the way through the install including some top tips to help you along the way!
Returning to stock is possible as the stock bushings are just popped out so it isn't a destructive process although with using glue, you would have to carefully de-bond and clean everything up but it would be possible.
This is the fifth modification to my shifter setup - check out the others below:
    - Cobb short shift plate: • COBB ADJUSTABLE SHIFT ...
    - Solid Shift Cable Bushings: • SOLID SHIFT CABLE BUSH...
    - Solid Shifter Base Bushings: • SOLID SHIFTER BASE BUS...
    - Likewise Thicc Boi weighted shift knob: • WE ARE LIKEWISE THICC ...
This is the final piece of the shifter puzzle - in compination with the above - beyond doing something really drastic like a full sequential setup or the likes - do you think this would be worth doing? Let me know in the comments!

Good video, helping me do mine right now! I unfortunately waited until I broke a shifter cable. Those factory bushings wore out on mine with the extra force from the short shifter and short shift arm, when I pulled out the cables and pulled up and down on the bracket it flopped like a fish. 2 bushings wore out, allowing play which even backed out the middle bolt, and partially backed out the rear bolt, and I'm at 60K miles. Your video helped me out a lot to diagnose (seeing how it is supposed to look) and putting it back together. You Brits crack me up with the Aluminium! Much love.

Great video as usual, I’ve only done the cable bushings so far, need to get the bracket gents done when the weather improves, bit to cold out there at the moment 🥶 very informative and helpful for my subsequent install. 👍👍 looking forward to the next vid. 👌

Nice video again, great to get this sort of in depth review of the installs for these parts. I'm planning on doing the full shifter upgrade with bushings and Cobb short shift mod soon so it's been great to see what's involved. With the clutch cable running through the bracket as well, has it changed the clutch pedal feel at all?

Hi Jacob, I haven't noticed any change in clutch feel tbh Cheers :)

Hi Adam. SICO don't have these in stock. Do you happen to know if the Steeda ones are just as good?

whats going on with the underside of the hood? looks Matte finish, and ur missing the heat shielding. Did u have a collision in the past?

    • @AdamRainey
      @AdamRainey  3 роки тому

It is not heat shielding, it is sound proofing and I removed it as per the recommendation of Mountune to provide clearance for the Mountune intake and also to provide some extra sound enhancement
