  • I install the PCV side oil catch can system for Ford Focus RS MK3 from Radium Engineering AND the SiCo Developments PCV plate to perfectly compliment it!
    I go over the parts as well as the steps required to install this system which is not just great looking / aesthetically pleasing but also beautifully machined, light weight and all feels very high quality!
    The basic idea behind any oil catch can is to avoid unwanted carbon build up on valves from air being vented into the intake that has vaporised oil in it (blow by). This is an issue if you have or plan to upgrade your Focus RS for more power but is also equally applicable if you are stock!
    In standard form, the PCV (positive crankcase ventilation) vents oily air directly into the rear of the intake manifold. This then gets sucked through the intake manifold, through the inlet ports and into the engine where it is combined with the normal air and fuel and so gets burned. This isn't ideal and in particular with the CCV side compared the PCV side, this oily air can clog the intercooler. This makes it less efficient at providing nicely cooled air which can cause a drop in performance.
    It really does look sweet in the engine bay, being just view-able behind the intake beside the battery cover!
    Installation was pretty smooth sailing - experience from previously doing the CCV side catch can from Radium Engineering definitely helped! - although some points to note are the need for fairly large wrenches/spanners and a big socket (29mm or 1 1/8 inches) to torque the top banjo bolt and also the rubber piping, although excellent quality being flame resistant etc. is a tight fit onto the very aggressive barbs for all the connections so softening them up with a heat gun is very much recommended!
    Implementing some degree of control of the PCV gasses whether it be one or both of the PCV breather plate and PCV catch can is in general simply a good idea to look after the engine as well as having the added benefit of boosting octane due to reduced oil in the fuel/air mixture!
    SiCo Developments says about their PCV plate:
    The plate is designed in house and manufactured from 6061 billet aluminium and finished in a black hard anodised finish. Internally the plate features increased baffling to reduce oil vapours leaving the PCV.
    Radium Engineering says about the PCV catch can:
    When the intake manifold pressure is close to or greater than atmospheric pressure, the PCV "check" valve closes and, thus, this hose experiences no flow. Conversely, the PCV hose will experience "metered" vacuum when the engine is idling, steady state cruising, and decelerating. This would normally draw unwanted crankcase vapour, unspent fuel, and oil sludge into the intake manifold immediately after a high load run. Note: Because the Radium catch cans are pressure sealed, they are great for this boosted application so intake manifold connection is permitted.

    Great video mate, thank you. How are you liking that Mountune Manifold? Second question, did Radium mention anything about the lines or the catch can itself freezing up considering it'll be catching a bit more blow-by ? I ask because they tend to hold not only some oil residue but moisture too. Plus Ireland gets very frigid more so than here in New York USA. Thank you again for all you do and your videos are spot on. Cheers!

    Excellent video! I did this install with the oil breather plate as you did. Had a lot of collection the first time changing my oil following the install but nothing the second time. Any thoughts on what the issue could be?

    Dammit - just recently bought the Mountune plate and waiting to install it (already have a JLT catch can in place). Now wishing I knew about the Sico plate! Also interesting that your old Mountune plate is black and is a quite different design compared to mine - mine is gunmetal with the exposed baffle plates (much more like the Sico), rather then the enclosed baffles that yours has.

    Quality video as always. Maybe I missed it, but how easy is it to check and empty this catch can?

      You can get a drain hose for it that comes out the bottom and makes it easy to drain.

      The easiest way is to buy a medical syringe with a length of clear vinyl tubing, then insert and draw accumulated fluid through the catch can dipstick hole. Never have to unscrew the bottom again.👍

    Adam could I have a Mountune breather plate with a radium catch can ?
    What Air oil separator do you recommend with a mountune breather plate ?

    Great video Adam, could never do that myself. I’m waiting to purchase an oil catch can for my B58 but it’s out of stock at Williams performance at the moment. I was wandering did you ever change your coolant to the performance coolant from Evans Coolant. It contains no water therefore limits any engine overheating and minimises rust formation in the coolant system and once replaced with your stock coolant it last for the life of the engine. Stay safe

    Installed the mountune oil breather plate and radium pcv catch can, install went great but now car seems a very slightly laggy and no exhaust crackle when WOT. I have the full mountune intake installed, along with the Cobb stage 1 tune. Thoughts?

    Hi Adam which SICO Development plate do you need? There are 2 options . I have a Mountune Oil Cooler. Does that make any difference to installing CCV and PCV catch cans? Thanks

    Hi Adam, could you of used the mountune breather with standard port fitting, but chose to use the other due to stronger fitting? Cheers

    • @AdamRainey
      @AdamRainey  3 роки тому +1

      Hello, yes the mountune could have been used in conjunction with the stock PCV valve but the SD plate can be ordered with a better valve that is purpose built to connect straight into the catch can pipe so also easier install

    Why didn't you go with radium breather plate ?

    • @AdamRainey
      @AdamRainey  4 роки тому +2

      The radium plate is the exact same design as sico and indeed airtec but it is a litle more expensive. The main reason though is availability - not as easy to get here in the UK. SiCo had theirs in stock so could get me their plate delivered within a few days and the quality is great!

      Hi Brandon, P0017 is to do with crankshaft position so I don't think these mods could have caused it. You may need to seek the help of a Ford tech

    Wtf? Ain't the top side of the oil catch can the clean side? Thats suppose to be connected to the air intake manifold, and the breather plate to the bottom side of the catch can. Likewise with the ccv side.

    • @AdamRainey

      Nope, the radium cans are agnostic and the way I have them connected up is exactly as per radium's guidance
