When I installed my ford racing short shifter I removed what you did plus the arm rest center console, made things a little easier when removing the whole shifter assembly. Little extra work but made life a little easier. (Or more complicated lol)
Hey Adam - are those carbon pieces around your shifter trim and HVAC controls the real deal or are they stick on trims ? In either case, where did you source them from (I assume not standard on the RS) ?

Hi Stan, both. They are real bits of carbon fibre that are stuck on. They are from the Mk3focusrs.club
