Yeah, I got sick for 2 weeks which threw things off, then I decided to switch to near daily streaming which required me to re-learn my workflow for making these videos.
M Chems Lasers did their job very very well! Impressed with the damage the Catapults did to that Jaegermech and how quickly the Quickdraw downed the Battlemaster!
This became one of my favorite Heavy mechs ever since I watched this video. As soon as I get some double heat sinks, I'm getting more ammo for this speed demon's chem lasers.
Hell yeah! Quickdraws are kinda underrated IMO, but I understand why it's not highly regarded. Never thought to add medium chem. lasers to it though. Good stuff.
I like’em as AI Mechs. Solid laser firepower, plenty speedy and mobile and you can put an LRM5 on them to have the AI nail those damn tanks always getting stuck in the terrain.
Yeah, if you do the math on the chem lasers, they're just as strong as medium lasers (mchems fire faster) and they generate half the heat. You can save tons on heatsinks versus tons of ammo as you'd need way more heatsinks to keep 4 medium lasers cool as opposed to basically 2 tons of ammo for 4 mchems.
@@GitGudFox Nor can they sustain focused fire on legs if you can't/don't have the time to get behind them, and simply being quick allows you to always be in the right range-bracket and position to face whatever's in front of you.
The thing really killing the Quickdraw is that it's a 60 ton mech with jump jets and the only thing keeping it even remotely relevant is that it's weaponry is light enough to mass things like medium lasers or SRMs...so naturally the original design has an LRM-10 along with the SRM-4, barely enough ammo for both, and still runs hot. Also that big engine really takes up much needed weight for armor and other goodies. It's the kind of mech that benefits a lot from an XL engine.
What makes it better than comparable medium designs is that it is able to crash through walls and use heavy melee weaponry instead of medium weaponry. That gives it a huge advantage on medium weight designs if the player knows how to take advantage of those features.
Recommendation for commendation for Breaker 1 for a textbook execution of bombardment and flanking maneuvers. So many you g mechwarriors just jam forward and alpha strike till over heat. Tragic, but they do pad my kill board.
Cool. I just picked up the game and the first two dlc and this has been my favorite mech so far. I spam burst ac2. Gonna try this load out. I haven't tried chem lasers I couldn't see the tradeoff for needing ammo
The tradeoff is saving tons in heatsinks which makes your Mech lighter. It takes more heatsinks than it takes tons of chem ammo to get the chem lasers online where as it'd take quite a few heatsinks to keep normal lasers from burning up the Mech.
@@GitGudFox that's fair. I've been using the short burst for that reason so the logic follows. I also realized this isn't the version of the mech I have or I'm thinking of the wrong one. I did say I'm new. Lol
So the way the SB lasers work is that they technically do more damage but they also generate more heat because they shoot faster. This is how you can think of Medium Laser models. Medium Laser = the standard by which other weapons are compared, extremely common and easy to replace. Medium Laser Short Burst = A bit more damage, a bit more heat, shorter laser burn time but a bit less common. Medium Chem Laser = Similar damage, half the heat, requires ammo but aren't very common. Medium Pulse Laser = Weighs more, much more more damage, much more less heat, short laser burn time, lostech.
@@GitGudFox thanks. Telling the difference between the lasers had been difficult. As a result I usually use the ballistic because I can understand how those work. The one exception being burst fire v normal. Burst fire seems to shoot three rounds for lower damage each. Not sure how the heat calculates but it seems wasteful if I have decent aim or am targeting a certain body part. Until watching your videos my strategy has been run and gun trying to get behind and machine gun legs.
So each weapon is like a tool. A simple example would be a hammer. You would definitely use a hammer to drive a nail through wood, but you'd never use a hammer to brush your teeth. You'd also never use a toothbrush to drive a nail through wood, but you'd certainly clean your teeth with it. Each weapon has a "beginning" and an "end" to its function. The Medium Laser tends to have 3 different roles. 1) Primary weapon, enough medium lasers drill through anything. The Hunchback 4P is the most famous example of this since it uses 8 Medium Lasers which is 40 damage and is pinpoint accurate. 2) As a secondary weapon, the Atlas' main weapon is its AC/20 but it carries 4 medium lasers as a back up weapon. In this role? The AC20 has firing priority meaning if the Atlas is overheating, the AC20 should be fired while the Medium Lasers are held back. The Medium Lasers are used to direct pinpoint damage to broken armor to laser off damaged bodyparts. 3) Auxiliary weapon, many Mechs carry just 2 Medium Lasers like the Orion and the Firestarter. 2 Medium Lasers is perfect for shooting down helicopters and destroying turrets due to their accuracy. In these cases, the Medium Lasers are more like a utility weapon. They're held back when the Mech is overheating in favor of its deadlier weapons but see a lot of use for removing annoyances without simultaneously generating massive heat.
I have definitely been missing out on this mech. Your ambush on the Battlemaster was beautifully executed. Well done as always Commander Fox.
Thank you very much! That BattleMaster was going to do a ton of damage with all those medium lasers too.
Finally a new Beginner's Manual 🥳

M Chems Lasers did their job very very well! Impressed with the damage the Catapults did to that Jaegermech and how quickly the Quickdraw downed the Battlemaster!
Yeah, the Catapults did a great job of getting some free damage in on the enemies especially since those were ordinary LRMs.
This became one of my favorite Heavy mechs ever since I watched this video. As soon as I get some double heat sinks, I'm getting more ammo for this speed demon's chem lasers.
If you get double heatsinks, it could be worth trying out pulse lasers if it doesn't overheat when using lostech.

I can watch these all day
My favorite kind of mechs as a commander; a good skirmish mech to close and and take the kill.
Will definitely try to grab one of those next time.
I also prefer to be quicker. Even the most heavily armored Mechs can't withstand much rear armor damage.

Love the QKD-5A variant and the hero mechs are pretty good too.
The melee hero is pretty dang fun, for sure.
Heavy melee weaponry is a good option since it's still a fast Mech with the ability to crash through walls.
Go for the rare Nightstar for the next Assault Mech :)
The Nightstar huh? Hmm, I hadn't considered that one yet. Not a lot of build room on it tbh. I'll think about it.

Breaker Lance is part of Ronin Fox's 2nd company. They're a fire support lance so a certain amount of patience is expected from them.
