WoR is WAY more eSport-friendly than, for example, Magic the Gathering. Unfortunately, given its 'hardcore', realistic approach, would be really hard to it to become popular enough to sustain a pro circuit. What the devs could and should do though, is to promote as many tournaments as they could among its small but enthusiastic community, and give them as many promo as they could.
@baconman What about pre gunpowder warfare? I get there was probably screaming, shouting and clanking of metal but I wouldn't think that'd be too bad compared to guns.
Imagine being in a bayonet charge in the face of a wall of lead. This shit really happened, people really died horribly. Insane to think about the scale of the horror.
The sounds of this game are orgasmic. I love these fantastically made historical war games, like Post Scriptum, and this, because the sound design is amazing.
The game encourages it, too, without forcing it on you. Deaths on line are 80% less impactful on your team's tickets, you are less affected by being shot at, and your aim sways less.
Yeah I'm having to remind myself that the randoms I'd actually be playing with are more likely going to be screaming REEE in the mic & running in circles trying to TK each other.
Most of these tactics are what you would see at the very start of the civil war. Both sides ended up taking more flexible approaches to battle once they realized battles could last long enough to drain supplies faster than requip and created standstills. But yes seeing a Rambo in games like this is down right hilarious
A popular AAA title could never do a game like this without losing players and money. And they shouldn't make one, because they'll end up making it into a run and gun with 10 second reloads and experimental weapons. Anyone who asks EA to make a civil war battlefield game is living in a bubble.
I've always been quick to point out that a Battlefield Civil War would be all but impossible due to the complete lack of quick-firing weapons...no automatics whatsoever, and the fastest-firing gun you're going to see is a lever-action or maybe a revolving rifle. They barely made WW1 fit into the Battlefield meta, there is no way in hell they can do that in a time before the machine gun.
Jonny B There's a time and place for those games, when you don't have much time and want to jump on a server and have some fun for a while. But games like War of Rights are meant for people who are serious about learning the Napoleonic era tactics and want to have massive line battles with a regiment, that's just so cool to me. Developers have finally figured out a way to make this style of combat work.
I'm impressed by the Union team's dedication to historical accuracy when it comes to officers making incredibly questionable judgement calls and having large scores of men cut down by a numerically inferior force.
Maj. Afton That's true, but weapons for WWI messengers would be close to useless, because they would run back to their trenches, which is safer, but when your not in the trench you are an easy target.
@@prophetdrogonaria4678 well the generals of the south wernt that good as the south lost... Now this is an epic engagement :D This Antietam Battle reminds me very well, of a fictional alternate story I created which took place in August of 1864, when the Confederate States of America took another shot at Sharpsburg, Maryland after they succeeded at Gettysburg Pennsylvania in 1863, after 8 days of bloody conflict.
So good Cody! Top nodes commentary explaning what is going on at all times! (Details like this is what i'm talking about: 7:34) And this games graphics, as you point out with 150 players with zero lag? This is AAA in my book! I have a few more suggestions however; At 0:04 maybe put a unit flag/banner in one of the cornors of the screen, and play a self-picked-company-theme song, call out the officers, NCOs and unit size, (If they are comfortable with that ofc.) and as time progress, a unit can build up a reputation based on documented battle efficiency. Incressing the hype and encourage epic battle tricks like these; 6:58 which in time could become characteristic for sudden units/commanders. Thus providing an even more epic battle experience for player and viewers alike! Agian Cody, I have watched 2hours and *you are very underrated!* imho. Love your videos!
The other day I was just talking to one of my Gaming buddies. Both of us are tired of C.O.D and BF. We were just saying..." How about a civil war or musket shooter"? Nice to see it exists. Great vid by the way!!
We destroyed the union in this battle. Love this game so much... proud to have a part in the development of such a beautiful, realistic, and historically correct game. And also the confederates gave them hell in real life also, even with all odds against them... To the point where they were out of ammo and resorting to simply throwing stones. I'm sure you already know that though ;) Awesome video man.
not to shoot down anyones thunder but they are rebels...good or not they are rebels and thank god the grey never won the war is these united states would be a shitty third world country
This was the best match yet, to hell with that crash, I expected it. Ive watched 3 times, working on an actual War Of Rights playlist trying to find a few videos on Civil War tactics in detailed lessons. Need a 150 man fight in the woods, volume of sustained fire by file at the height of a man. On top of all the foliage, shadows, trees there will be so much smoke.
Okay those three lads at 23:45 are heroes of the Union, awesome little bit of gaming there!! So perfect when the confederates came round the bend and noticed each other.
Thus is the best game I've ever seen. Im a civil war fanatic and have dreamt about a game like this my whole life. I used to play flashpoint, call of duty, and other older software and liked them but lost interest when all that hopping around, bouncing like a mental patient started. I just found this in you tube and can't believe it exists. So cool
It was a shame that we had a single unit not following the split force rule, yes. However, as Cody points out at around the 4:20 mark, the Union had much more cover than the Confederates thanks to their proximity to the fence in front of them, the CSA's position up a hill, and the berm between both forces. Most units did very well following the rules, regardless.
It looks like the Union team wanted the most epic volley possible to kick off the event, but it clearly wasn't long afterward that they hopped the fence and moved to the center of the field in front of them. I get that you misread what was happening on the other side at such range, but in the interest of fairness it's painful to watch one side being torn to shreds for simply trying to play by the rules. If it was the other way around I'd still feel that the victory was greatly cheapened by it.
What's funny about this comment is that we wouldn't have rock n roll either, seeing as though the whole genre was bit off of jazz and such which was primarily black musicians.
Dae Dric If the CSA won slavery would not exist now. In fact, it probably wouldn’t have lasted but a few more years, with new technology being invented, eventually, we’d slowly start removing slaves, and by now, we’d already have given them their rights, because not everyone in the south wanted slaves, some people would have started anti slavery protests
Seems like fences offer a bit TOO much protection. Plus the union commander was a bit incompetent...I’m not sure why he thought moving a line into the open while opposing incoming fire from a semi-shielded enemy was a decent idea.
You are absolutely correct. Becuase they didn't gather in big lines and fire at each other. They didn't use muskets that take 20 seconds to load. They definitely just used their spare m1 Abrams to crush through the rebel defenses right after they dropped 6 nuclear bombs and prayed them down with m2 brownings from a heli. Yep, "nothing at all what it was like at any point in the war"!
The battle of manasses was a huge spectacle where people believed it would be the first and final battle so it drove people to picnic around it. As the war went on, it was pretty secretive where armies were moving to counter other generals and once civilian populations realized how horrific and dangerous these battles were, (i.e being killed in the crossfire) they pretty much kept their distance if anything offering medical aid back in any nearby towns.
I pretty much just covered it in my other comments and I know that you couldn't tell what they were doing from that far away, but in either case, it's because the Union wasn't attempting to actually play out the event from that position and moved very quickly afterward without having inflicted many (if any) casualties on the CSA. It's not even clear if Stone and Mulcahy knew where the Confederates were as they didn't give any specific directional commands, only "Fuck yeah, let's do a volley" which was clearly just for show. Seeing it from this perspective you can't exactly claim that they were using cover in an attempt to gain an unfair advantage. If they wanted to, they would have stayed there, or even used the second fence when the Confederates were using theirs. The Confederates hugged the fence for a very long time inflicting as many casualties as possible, regardless of the Union team having moved into the open. That's why.
/Fanboying/ If I could only RUN this game...at the end of the year as a graduation gift my parents said i can either have a dog..or a new PC...i WAS pretty confident in wanting a dog but... >_
UNBELIEVABLE. This is the most awesome, intense, epic WoR video I've seen. And this game provides quite a lot of awesome, intense, epic videos. I fucking love this game. I wish it'd attract many more players.
As a bee keeper, I really dont recommend forming up a unit right amongst a group of hives.... As an aside, I believe it was in World War One that a unit of British troops was patrolling a rural coastal town in Britain and saw a line of white shapes near the coastal cliff top. Thinking it was related to German landing troops, they opened fire upon them only to realise later that they were bee boxes. The captain, also a fellow bee keeper, compensated the Abby that owned them. It's was all outlined in a documentary about the Buckfast Abby, one of the most world renowned bee breeding facilities.
Hi, and thanks General Cody for this outstanding video. As a soldier who has played both sides now, I can say that the Union Regiments are the most disciplined. They do drills to stay in formations. Everyone I've met in this game takes it very seriously and one can really get caught up in the authenticity of it all. Great fun, but I'm bored of it all already. something is missing and I just can't say what.
Okay, I have some questions for you if you do not mind, but first, awesome video, and it was cool and amusing how you covered the battle like a sportscaster. Anyway, as for the questions, here they are(anyone who has the answers to my questions and who wants to can answer): 1. How were you able to bird's eye view the battle covering the battlefield like that? 2. Is there a way to zoom out to third person view during a battle one is in? 3. Regarding the button for voice chat, does it work as a toggle on/off switch, or do you have to push and hold it each time you want to talk? 4. General Cody, this video is almost a year old at the time of writing, do you still play this game? 5. If so, are you a member of and possibly command a unit? 6. If so, which unit? Thanks for uploading this video General Cody, and thank you to you and to all others who may reply.
I love the video, and would love to see more of you covering it in this manner! Giant battles with an overviewer really sells home how many people there are. First person is a bit meh, honestly. Fun if you're the one playing, but it's not as much fun to watch. Also, I am at a complete loss for why the server rules were setup the way they were. Tactics, like splitting your forces and using cover effectively are the things I find most compelling about watching this! Why would they try and stop real world tactics?
Sawta thanks for the support man! We set this round up specifically for 2 massive lines. We wanted to showcase the game in terms of sheer firepower and numbers.

Man, this is so beautiful for me. My whole life since I was a kid I imagined this images, dreamed to can recreate those scenarios: I love it. Thanks!
Glad you enjoyed it, GM!

I've been waiting a long time for a game like this. Never knew it existed until a couple of days ago.
23:51 "Holy shit behind us"😂😂😂😂 you called it.
8th Florida will participate soon, and the confederate players are just BETTER, union got rekt
1st Florida would love to have you ;]
God damn right we are.
Josefos Tišeros Better = Breaking pre-established rules
You keep repeating that and pointing to the example at 5:40 while ignoring the Union's use of cover at 4:30. Can I ask why?

This is the most awesome, intense, epic WoR video I've seen. And this game provides quite a lot of awesome, intense, epic videos.

Banana Man haha, excited about a small victory......but....
Yeah I replayed that part like 6 times still as funny as the first lmao
OH HOLY SHIT BEHIND US!
haha
The civil war was about the south having their rights stripped from them and so the south retaliated by seceding from the union
Wait is this 2018? I’m surprised the civil war has already started!
Fake News
20:18 that kid killed 2 teammates cuz he was so greedy to get a kill lmao, not cool. Gameplay looks great though!
haha, appreciate it man!
23:50 is the best part
Okay, I have some questions for you if you do not mind, but first, awesome video, and it was cool and amusing how you covered the battle like a sportscaster. Anyway, as for the questions, here they are(anyone who has the answers to my questions and who wants to can answer):
Cody: "Oh that's gotta hurt, Theismann's in a lot of trouble."
Dude, if they could add cavalry to this game...
Sean Taylor they will in the near future
General Cody HD No way! That would be absolutely terrifying!
Good job with the video
thanks blood!
No problem
Backwards head at 16:32
haha
So cool! It's easy to understand how there was so much friendly fire given all the smoke and how similar gray and blue are.
