Taco Toaster Review: Revolutionary or Unnecessary?

- By request I'm looking at Taco Toaster, a device which allows you to toast taco shells in your right in your toaster. It took me a few tries but I was able to get it to work with flour and corn tortillas. That, of course, begs the question of whether or not something like this is actually necessary or not. I love how you actually follow the instructions instead of figuring it out yourself and getting it wrong like other reviewers...
That's why he is here and we all like him for it. 🤗
Realistically he should not follow instructions and he should find the right adjustments size and temp to make it perfect....
topher he’s a reviewer that reviews things the way the average person will use it. An average person won’t even try to perfect the timing on this trash device
Lol! Most people should follow the directions when using a product, unless they have to do things differently! It’s normal, and common sense! XD
Looks like a solution looking for a problem.
Na. Looks like a solution looking for a problem looking for a solution.
MrFmiller it is a great idea but bad execution
@@flxmkr That means it is unecessary and it does not work.
MrFmiller Like a fire.
You're saying "Taco Toaster review"
what i'm hearing is "I wanted a reason to make tacos"
Amazon affiliate program
Looks like something you will be able to find at yard sales this summer for 50 cents. Seems like a use it one or two times and then never use it again.
I couldn't agree with you more but I will say you probably could end up walking away with it for $0.10. LOL
fun factm toasters and kettles etc in the UK work twice as fast than in the USA due to the double voltages :) so the instructions on this would totally mess your results here lol
@@girlsdrinkfeck I was not aware of that. That's interesting and would also be amusing. LOL
I think I'd actually pay a kid to take it away.
well.. it did say it fit 5" 1/2 inch tacos and you had 6 inch tacos, so of course it doesn't fit
So do you take a pair of scissors and cut off 1/2" all the way around, or buy a new toaster? Aren't tacos sort of a standard size?
alternatively, you could fold the front part inwards or of course just buy a bigger toaster.
Does a 5 and 1/2 inch Taco even exist? Sounds like an odd size. LOL
@@ferociousgumby You can get the smaller size flower soft shells from Mission labeled as "Street Tacos", and they might work without cutting them.
@@ferociousgumby 🤦if you cut a 1/2 off all the way around, (the circumference) then you wind up taking a whole inch off the diameter (the width of the shell) so would make your 6" she'll into a 5" she'll not a 5 1/2" like your thinking. Math wasn't your strong subject in school was it?
I was a bit reluctant to buy an "off brand" toaster, but the reviews on this one led me to take a chance.I was very pleased! ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxE7HOOpW0eh4vbVGAB_r_cURwoxZxpZPA The toast comes out evenly browned and I was surprised that the sides of the toaster do NOT get hot to the touch which is a great safety feature.I like the additional buttons for frozen foods, the emergency eject button, and the warming rack for rolls and other items. All in all, it was a good purchase and at the right price. Sure you can get fancier toasters, but for a premium price. This fulfills the basic duties of a toaster at a reasonable price.
The thing is:
The temperature settings on toasters are not standardized. Every toaster is different. So it's strange to see them mentioning toaster settings...
The more expensive, commercial toasters seem to be based on time. But yeah, consumer toasters are just whatever.
Also not good if you only have a toaster oven, like me.
Melvin Klein all the way to the right on my toaster is the lowest temperature
With 90% of toasters you are only adjusting time
From what I know, most toasters use timers, with the knob setting how long it'll toast for; not a lot of them take the bread's actual temperature into account.
Microwave the corn tortilla a lil bit just to get it warm and soft first
This is exactly what me and the family need as we ride out Armageddon in our refurbished concrete bunker complex.
I just lay my flour tortillas on the eye of my electric stovetop for a few seconds. Works every time!!
Shhhhh....gadget people are not interested in knowing about simpler, more effective methods.
Simple and cheap! I like. 🤗🤗🤗
I thought everybody did that
Gas burner and a frying pan here
@@user-neo71665 what's really good is if you use the pan that you cooked your ground beef in. Dump the meat into a bowl then use the pan but don't clean it, leave all the seasoning from the meat mixture in the pan. Your tortillas will have so much flavor
The one bent over would be awesome to keep your veggies from falling out
I was thinking the same thing. I hate it when my toppings come out the other end of my tacos as I'm eating them.
I buy soft shells so I can roll them up.
I buy hard shells for the crunch.
There'd probably be a taste difference between the toasted tortilla and the hard taco shell
You made an entertaining video out of the dumbest product I've ever seen. I love your channel.
True and even "dumber" we all are watching till the end. 🤔😄😄
@@Michelle-ke7me oh well, I’m glad to have found this channel, someone reliable demo products for us ....so much better than trusting mixed or worse, fake reviews . Other reviewers channels seems more biased but this man is funny and give good testing.
LMAO!!! My favorite response on this channel yet..
"Look! It almost worked.. OUCH!"
P.S. You are one of my favorite unbiased YouBuber channel hosts.
I kept playing that part over and over again oh, it was hilarious
Yes... James is THEE best YouBuber of All Bime!
Love your videos. For these 8 minutes i wasn't thinking about any thing going on in the world. Keep up the good work!
Love your honest review videos!❤️
I loved this video James! Thanks for your ideas and hard work! I must try this one hahaha
Your camera's focus is so good that you look like you're standing infront of a green screen.
Once again, nailed it! Best regards, James!
Thanks again for another great review. Can't believe I'm late to the party on this one. I don't know how I miss this video but I did. You're always very helpful in helping me decide what I want to buy versus what I need to buy lol.
The problem with the corn tortillas is that those brand of tortillas are really bad quality.
Go to any Mexican store and ask for real tortillas.
Not when they're all closed
Stacy Russell lmao it’s not that difficult, and yeah I know, I live in Cali
nah, for some REAL tacos you gotta go to the heart of mexico and go to a taco factory
GMO Corn

That to co toaster is pretty cool.
If you ACTUALLY READ the DIRECTIONS on a pack of HARD SHELL corn tortilla taco shells,
It DOES say to TOAST the shell before EATING.
I usually toss mine in a skillet, or on a gas stove open burner, but, I'm a CHEF, WATTA DO I KNOW
Thanks for doing all the hard work for us! LOL. vids look great btw!!
Stumbled here due to my strange attraction to gimmicky yet innovative design. Binging on your incredibly thoughtful articulated reviews! Could you PLS review the UPDATED Paint Runner Pro?! Idk if ppl just aren’t using it correctly. Thx 🙏🏻💓
codeplusform check out Vivian Tries videos I think she did it...
Have you got the Bell n Howell shaver ? Seen an infomercial a couple of days ago
This will work for me. Just at the right setting and you're good to go! Thanks!
I love that the taco toaster has metal at the bottom that you are shoving into a device you should never put metal in.
It seems like a hassle. Was the taco toaster itself hot when you pulled it out of the toaster? Seems like it was once or twice. Great review again!
I just hang them from the rack in my oven set it to 350 for about 5 mins and voila hard baked shells.
That crunch was on point
That second shell on test 1 came out good. How its folded on the one side is perfect for keeping the insides from falling out
I can't get corn tortillas to fold intact without first warming in the microwave.
Hey James, what camera do use?
From heavier than air flight to the Taco Toaster, what will they think of next?
Does it taste better or same as packaged shells?
Feel like it's WAY easier to just do it in a pan...barely any cleanup and you can get a slower cook if you want to melt the cheese.
There's always better method's than most kitchen gadgets, but the purpose of his channel is the test kitchen gadgets and review them. Not necessarily convince us that these are better than the alternatives. Great video James! Keep doing what you do! Cheers! 😊
@@VipermanSBD Dont think you understood my comment. I know very well what hte channel is. I'm talking about the product and how you can make it easier without it and not needing to waste money.
What brand of corn tortillas did you use?
I have the one you deep fry with , it works great. Was the store out of lettuce? Love your reviews.💜
I think it looks like it might be great for corn tortillas on a lower setting. No oil, but you still get the crunch. My supermarket also carries street taco size tortillas that I think might work.
I have a long slot Cuisinart (9¾" slot) toaster as we buy the LaJolla sourdough bread 🍞 from Costco. The slices are too long for a normal slot toaster. Bet this item will work great in our toaster! 👍🏻 As always, Tnx for the video.
I agree with you however the instructions just say Toaster not a special or unique toaster
I really like how you really try hard to make those things to produce the results they promise. THIS is the real TÜV! If you had an institute of approval, I would look for that mark!
Anybody else get excited for the surprise cameos of past reviewed products?
wondering if the corn do it once on high, or both times n high.
The others half the heat
Try looking for corn tortillas with a higher fat content as this will help keep them from drying out to the point of cracking. Alternately you can lightly coat them with oil, though there is a risk of catching fire so keep an eye on them.
The scizza making yet another guest appearance. I gotta get some of those for myself.
Just fold a damn tortilla and put it in the toaster sideways and nuke both sides for bout a minute and be careful on the second side, the wavy look it gets is actually pretty artistic, I make my tacos look like clams or flowers. Way better than some boring ass flat tacos. And does a better job on holding the insides because the pockets.
You can do this in your oven without the gadget. Warm your tortillas in the microwave then drape them over the racks of your oven. Itll form that flat shape on the bottom as long as you are bridging two spokes. Then bake for a few minutes to your preference. You can do a ton this way, so all you need to buy are tortillas.
You can also lightly pan fry them in a little oil and drape inside the oven to shape. This thing seems like it would take a long time unless you are in a single-person situation.
For the corn tortilla... I put it in the microwave wrapped in a damp paper towel for 15 seconds before I put it in the toaster. This prevented the bottom from cracking.
Open flame on a gas stove or blow torch would work as well or better?
Did u remember to microwave those other ones? It looked like u only did it to the first batch?
i make no fry tacos shells by laying the tortilla flat on the pan until it warms up. then i use a fork to fold it over making the taco shape. i let it continue cooking until both sides get crispy. its fast, healthier and mess free.
After trial and error it works, but I dont see it as necessary. Awesome review James, thanks!
"Trial and error" he says "Works with 5 n half inches" the instruction says.
JaMeS: *Puts in over 6 inches of tortillas*
6 inches of this di-
Panda Monium bruh if you think 6 inches is small you’re on something. That’s average bud, also I don’t think a girl will want to take a 12 incher.
Panda Monium you just killed me 🤣

Arizona Ranger with a big iron on his hip they like about 8 1/2.
It’s just a toaster with that red device? Or the red device is what you’re testing? Could you use a four slice toasted that has two long slots to for 4 slices of bread?
Wonder how this would work with the fancier toasters. Like that one I saw from the 60s that was way more advanced than any toaster you can get today?
Awesome! I love toasted tortilla shells! ^_^ It’s so easy to toast them in the oven, or in a pan on the stove when making tacos or quesadillas! :D
I have a Griddler by Cuisinart which is a multi-functlion electric grill you can use without added oil. The grates pop out so it is easy to clean. I have found that instead of doing tacos, what is easier and very delicious, is to do tacquitos in the Griddler. I don't have to fold the tortillia and I can load up whatever I like in the filling with one corn tortilla on the bottom, the other on the top. You can put cheese in it and also salsa so long as it isn't too wet. I push the top down and it is ready in a few minutes. Best yet, is it does not spoil the creation to take a peak. As the tacquito does not have lettuce in it as it would wilt, I make a small side salad and have fresh salsa on the side and sometimes leftover vegetables. As we eat the McDougall diet, works for us as it is ultra low-fat. We use a bit of grated vegan cheese and for each one (can make two at a time), I add 1/2 of Morning Star Farms Black Bean pattie which I defrosted and chopped up.
When I serve it, I use a kitchen scissors to cut it into 6 triangles. It is very popular with me and my husband.
Frankly some of the smoke you make smell is from the crumb tray which you should clean, according to the manufacturer, once a week.
The idea of the toaster with the plastic device, what about the fumes which come out of the plastic into the food when you heat it? Thanks, but no thanks. The Griddler is handy for many things and is easy to clean and you don't burn your house down. Yes, it costs more than a toaster. But will it possibly give me cancer from the plastic fumes? NO! How much is your life worth?
Did you get a new camera?! This video looks nice!
Hi😊 Love your vids!!! Could you review Gotham Steel Stack Master pans in comparison to other copper cookware? I really need a large, deep oven-safe non-stick fry pan and casserole pot/pan that's space-saving. I'm not picky or demanding at all😂😂😂
Him: bad burnt shells from product
Me, determined to never waste food: large CRUNCHY tortilla chips..
[flames licking his elbows] "I'm rooting for it! I really am!" ..."cough"
I need that in my life!
The dial is a timer not a temp dial. It doesn't get any hotter it just toasts longer
U truely are the best reviewer on youtube .
I'm assuming this wouldn't work with an end to end toaster. Actually it barely seems to work with a side by side lol
Hi. Please review the Quantum X upright vacuum. I'm thinking about getting one.
I don’t like corn tortillas, but those flour ones looked really good. Especially with the end to hold everything in. I really really hate taking a bite of something and everything falls out of the other side.
Here's the thing. You NEVER need to toast only two taco shells. Get a sheet pan, load stuff in the shells and put them all under a broiler. Flip them over, half way through. Then they're all done at once with much better control and no cracked bottoms. Maybe put the cheese in afterwards if you don't want it melted.
Do what kids from Mexico did. Turn on gas burner, on low and put the tortilla right on burner, constantly flipping with your bare hand. I learned this from my students when we had potluck. Of course everyone washed hands well before starting.
No expensive taco gadgets, no extra gadget washing and no burned tortillas after you get the hang of it.
That was pretty cool hey a less you can get something out for to use specially taco tuesday :D keep up the work James White
If you have to cut off 10% of your taco, it's not a taco... it's a 'tacc"
You can set your oven to like 450F and straddle the metal bars on the rack using the tacos.. They will hang there and harden as they cook. There are videos on youtube how to make tacos usin an oven rack.
Toasted tortillas are DELICIOUS!!! Never thought of using a toaster. Hmm
James you're my hero!
Corn doesn't have gluten. It's very difficult to fold without cracking. Warming them in a dry pan for a few seconds on each side should help.
And you need a "4 slice long slot toaster".
That toaster is small and that's coming from a Brit. Guess not everything is not big in America.
Thinking the same thing .. looks like a barbie toaster..😀
@ER071C4 MAGAZINE You've already said this BRUH
You have to get the flour shells for fajitas. Those are the small flour shells that fit. I know from experience of getting the wrong shells once.
i reckon adding butter to the corn shells might make it more flexible and stable during toasting ( just on the bend )
I think you would have better luck putting them in a deep fryer
Best Review's on UA-cam
No doubt.
Quit simping homies
Or throw them in the oven for 3 minutes on 400f.
Unless you have a taco shaper for your oven that wouldn't work.
@@ukmedicfrcs Well yeah they wont stay that shape it would be more of a slightly crunchy soft taco.
I feel like you could just put a piece of bread between the folded tortilla to do this same thing without paying for this thing that only seems to hinder the job. All you need is for the top of the tortilla to stay open during toasting.
Also we have a 4-slice toaster that's two long openings, which seems like it would be WAY easier, since a full flour tortilla would fit easy.
Need to get those corn flour crossover tortillas.
Buy the circular 51/2" tortilla cutter that makes any tortilla the right size!!!! Look forward to you testing it!
They should’ve called it The Taco Bender ... wait a minute Nevermind
Wouldn't it just be easier to like hang them from the rack in your oven ya know if you didn't buy them already crunchy??
I'm the only one in my house that likes hard shell tacos from time to time, so I just buy the smaller Street Taco flower shells from Mission, then turn them upside down and through 2 of the grates of the baking rack of my toaster oven right in the middle of it, and I can do 4 at a time with the 4 slice option in my Panasonic Toaster oven. much easier, and faster.
I usually just pass on the corn shells as they just end up reminding me of mystery meat tacos from elementary, and middle school in the 80's, and early 90's.
I thnk you should have put the corn in the micrwave first to steam/soften them up so they don't crack?
Yea, I don't know if I'd get this. I like my flour tortillas soft so no way there. I like my corn tortillas not to have holes in the bottom so it seems like buying from the store and putting them in the oven would work better.
the rack method in regular, or toaster oven is the way to go.
american: my standard size tortilla does not fit in my toaster
hispanic: porque standard???????
Can you test the Angel sleeper pillow looks interesting ?
Your hilarious and I love your videos 😊😊
One of the 4 slice toasters thats the double length style would work great 4 this
you have to also try it with different brand tortillas for the corn version because some are made a bit different and would not crack like those and once you found your brand stick to it.
Idk maybe heating up the corn tortillas would maybe help the cracking, when I was growing up my mom always taught me to warm them up before folding when making quesadillas or else the hard texture of the corn tortilla would split them
I just told the tortilla white or corn and put it in the toaster and never had a problem. Of course you need to know your toaster and how fast or slow it toasts on the settings available. I never even thought about using an object such as this. Like I said just fold it put it in the toaster and it pops up just fine use a set of tongs or chop sticks to grab it because it will be hot.
Fold the tortilla not told like in the first sentence
Try warming up the corn tortillas first. Alternatively, fry it in a pan with the contents already in there. Much tastier 😁 if I want a corn chip type shell I'll just go to Taco Bell or buy the pre-made kind of shells. I've also seen people make them on their oven racks not sure how well that works.
I found that street taco size tortillas fit in a toaster better than larger tortillas
I think size really matters in this case. I doubt bailey will even eat that🤔 Love that you always give an honest review though❤ Thanks!
