So, I have another very important question that comes up a lot: If there are several things that happens "at the end of a batttle round", which one happens first? For example, there was a Victory Condition that scores a point *at the end of a battle round* for controling the most 2" plataforms, right. And there was also a Twist that made a Gnarloak attack *at the end of a battle round* , so potentionaly, a tree could attack you and you could fall. But does that twist happens before or after the victory condition? Cause both happens at the same window. And there are several, several other examples of this, there's so much stuff that happens at the end of a battle round.
That's a pretty good question actually. Technically speaking, 'end of the battle round' is only referenced in the rules as happening after all phases of a round have finished (so Initiative, Reserve and Combat). The order that end of battle round stuff happens isn't explicitly mentioned anywhere BUT on p3 of the rules there is a section under sequencing: SEQUENCING In most cases, rules will be resolved one at a time. However, from time to time, rules may appear to come into play at the same time and it may be unclear as to which is resolved first. If this occurs in the combat phase, the player whose turn it is to activate a fighter chooses the order in which the rules are resolved; in other phases, the player with the initiative chooses. In any other case, the players roll off and the winner chooses. So for end of battle round effects, the players would roll off (because we aren't in any phase anymore) and the winner gets to choose which effects happen first; being eaten by trees before or after scoring.
@@OffMetaMusingsThank you, that's a good solution. What we ended up agreeing on i sthat the Score would be the most final thing that should happen, logically speaking, so that's what we did :)
@@seraph1320I think it's from the Bloodhunt battleplan cards, it has an attack action printed on the card as if it was a weapon a Gnarloak could use, it's funny as hell and I got damaged 2 rounds, and killed in the other 2 rounds. A question I see many people ask is "when will new AoS models get rules?" Also "where are the rules for some Underworlds Warbands like Hexbane's Hunters?"
haha, Thats not even something I can answer XD Some people think that a new tome of champions is due at some point but there aren't any rumors of that at all. Most WHU units can be found on Warcrier but its true that a whole bunch of them (where nethermaze?) are missing.
Just you showing "fighters are not visible to themselves" I immediately knew how the self buff shit worked. Thanks for the video . I'm trying to get into warcry, I grabbed the starblood stalkers, cuz obv seraphon the best. Still waiting to see what the next box is and hoping it's teams my friends wanna play. Otherwise I am gonna find a used set lol
Your'e welcome :) The next actual box release will be Hunter and Hunted as shown off at NOVA: www.warhammer-community.com/2023/08/31/nova-open-preview-the-gorger-mawpack-prepare-to-make-a-meal-out-of-the-wildercorps/ And GW showed off some cool new scenery today so I'm thinking that it's release date will be along the lines of Oct 21 given how the pre-releases work over in GW land nbut don't quote me on that XD
One clarification -- in the Cover section, you say "if that imaginary line crosses over *any* piece of terrain, then that target is in cover" but the rules on Warcrier state that cover is not given by *any* piece of terrain, but instead only by obstacles. An obstacle must be 1" or higher. So some scatter terrain won't give cover because it is "low terrain"
I believe I specified that cover only comes from Obstacles and Platforms; In that section I was referring to the piece of terrain that the cover line would need to be drawn over which would need to be an obstacle in the first place. Otherwise you are correct :)
Regarding measuring range--I understand that range over horizontal distances are measured base to base. But when you apply this rule literally to situations where the two fighters are standing on different elevations, it ceases to make sense, so I have to wonder if I understand it correctly. Imagine you have a model standing at the edge of a 3" high platform, such as the ones in the original core set terrain. An opposing fighter with a 2" attack range moves into position at the bottom of the platform, right in front of the first model. The horizontal distance between the bases is 0"--they'd be touching if they were both on the ground. The model on the ground level--a Grimghast Reaper, for example--is well over 1" tall. Common sense suggests that it ought to be able to reach the enemy on the platform--1.5" of model height, plus 2" of range, easily reaches the feet of the figure on the 3"-high platform. But a strict reading of the rules requires the range to be measured base-to-base, so the Reaper can't attack the target, because even though the horizontal distance is 0, the vertical distance is 3", thus exceeding the Reaper's attack range of 2". If this is the correct interpretation, platforms and elevation become hugely important from a defensive standpoint. Am I reading this right?
Range from fighter to fighter isn't actually measured horizontally, it's always measured at an angle, base to base to take into account the different elevations (sometimes that angle is flat if both are on the floor, or it can be really sharp if the fighter is up on a platform). So you are right that a fighter up on a 3" high platform is out of Range of a fighter on the floor with a 2" range weapon. It's done this way to take actual miniature height out of the equation (given that some GW minis come on some pretty elaborate bases nowadays). This applies for not only ranges to fighters, but also to objectives and treasure tokens. The only time you measure horizontally, is when you are looking at deployment zones which are cylinders around the deployment point (allowing you to deploy up on platforms if they are in your deployment zone)
@@OffMetaMusings Ugh. I was afraid of that. Thanks. It does seem silly to me that a Grimghast Reaper--a flying model with a 2" reach and a great long scythe on the model--can't swing at the feet of an adjacent model on top of a platform, when the weapon sculpted onto the Reaper can literally touch the base of the target. I appreciate the reply, OffMeta, even if I don't love the answer. 😆
Very good video. The last few questions you answered were definitly things that I had to look up multiple times during my first few games. Here's another two questions: Can you jump horizontally as far as your movement allows? Can you move 1'' upwards during a jump?
Glad it was helpful! For Jumping; Yes you can move as far horizontally as you have remaining movement when you made the jump up to your fighter's movement for that action. As part of the jump you can also move any distance downwards vertically but if you drop 2" or more you will suffer impact damage. Unfortunately you can't jump upwards, only downwards.

How well does Warcry work if you only pit one Underworlds warband against another, like in the new starter set?
For the most part it depends on which WHU warbands you are using; They typically come in at around 400-600 points whereas a 'full' game of warcy comes in at 1000 points. There is almost 100 points difference between the warbands in Crypt of Blood favoring the Stormcast but overall for a few starter games they aren't too bad to play against eachother thanks to being similar sized warbands. Of course you could drop a fighter from the bigger warband to make the games more balanced points wise but I like a good few models in my warbands to get a good feel that you are participating in the bulk of the game :)
Thanks for doing this video! I have missed out on my chance of asking questions, but I really wanted to know about a confusing action, which is the Wait Action. So If I use a Wait, it means I use an action, but what happens later? I have seen my friend use an ability twice. Example: the Knight Arcanum's Bolt from the Heavens, my friend activated that ability to shoot my unit, then he put a Wait Action. Afterwards, he came back to the Knight Arcanum and used another Bolt from the Heavens. From here I got myself confused, was this legal?
You are allowed to use an ability before and after your fighter's action when they activate. In the case of Wait, the fighter still activates (and does the wait action) so you are allowed to use an action before and after the wait action as normal AND again when the fighter activates a second time. So yes your friend's example is right in this case :)
@SpooKimi dont quote me on this but I think the warcry Battlescribe guy has said that it's not going to get anymore updates thanks to the listbuilder now on warcrier.net; it's got list validation built in so it's probably worth checking out :)
