  • A very quick and easy must have caddis fly. With only a tiny bunch of elk hair and a little CDC, you can tie this skating caddis that I guarantee is a game changer during caddis hatches.
    Hook: Mustad Heritage C49S Barbless # 14
    Tying thread: Sheer 14/0 Tan
    Body/wing: Cow elk hair
    Hackle: Natural CDC

    Good, easy caddis. We have a lot of tan caddis here on lake in spring. Just panfish but fun even for us oldsters. We also have a black caddis so will probably modify to fit that.
    Barry, Thank you for your good precision patterns, also for promoting Mustad I've only been tying on them since 1958. Jim Willis

    Nice pattern, Barry. Did you get this idea from Gary Lafontaine’s Caddis pattern? He tied it with sparkle yarn instead of Elk hair. The idea is that it traps water and creates a translucent body and looks like a bubble trapped in the body. I fished those patterns quite a bit and were deadly but were meant to imitate an emerging Caddis, only greasing the wing and letting the body sink just below the surface.

      Thanks Cachi, no not based on one of Gary's emergent sparkle pupa's, for this you should look at my deer hair pupa video, this was based on Gary's ESP after I met him here in Norway in 94 and watched him tie the ESP and the DSP.

    Hat Barry: I loved the pattern however, I found I needed to go further back down the shank of the hook with thread wraps because the first two I tied spun when I was tying down the tips of the deer hair so on the next ones I went back about half way down the hook shank then back up close to the eye and it worked much better. thanx for the pattern .tight lines.😋

      Hi Kenneth, thanks. Yes, thats why I use a drop of super glue and wax, this stops it slipping.

    Interesting folding technique of that elk hair….I am guessing deer or moose would work too but may have different buoyancy?? Instead of cdc, have you used a turn or two of a soft hackle instead?? Tight lines!

    • @Thefeatherbender
      @Thefeatherbender  Рік тому

      Thanks Mike, correct, moose wouldn't work as well but deer will if you can get hold of some that is longer. I havn't used soft hackle on this pattern, but I don't see why it shouldn't work!
