  • Hard Light has its place in lighting, but in most cases that place is not on the face. Soft light is going to be your best bet for getting creamy/ flattering images out of your subjects. Here are 3 basic principles for achieving soft light for ya as you continue your cinematic journeys. The best part is you can use any light. Thanks as always for watching. I love you.

    8:27 That sentence is the BIGGEST advanced cinematography advice you can give to anybody. 👍👍👍 There are many "experts" out there that don't even know that. It's the inverse square law explained with an example.

    If you are looking for more ideas... I would love to see more specific lighting scenarios or breakdowns. I have seen some few other channels do this and I always find that it helps me the most.

    Very cool video! I just want to add a comment about why the closer the light, the softer; And it is because a bigger source of light will fill the shadows with light, the light will travel more even in the face (in this specific case).

    Thanx for your insightfull tips on your channel. Very helpfull for me as a starter. But I as an audio- engineer have a tip for you as well. Your room has a nasty resonance at exactly 385 Hz which bounces on your voice. Very easy remedied wit a few absorbers on the wall. Makes everything a lot nicer to listen to.

    I am a beginner. I tried adding a diffuser on my led panel but it is still not soft enough.. my video still has hard shadows. I should invest on the sheets youre talking about. thanks for the tip.

    I feel like this is really good advice for beginner filmmakers, but as we get better I feel like we should experiment and use hard sources more when appropriate.
