Her voice is distinctive and incomparable. This was at a time when there were a lot of great black female singers who were also _artists_ finding mainstream appeal, and she was the cream of the crop. To this day nothing comes close to Ms. Baker's legacy. Nothing!!!
David Richardson maybe phyllis hyman thats about it you probably dont even know who she is
@@angeljohnson6665 I grew up listening to Phyllis Hyman. PH never got the mainstream boost/crossover appeal because no one really knew how to market her, and of course the head of the label turned his attention to a young powerhouse singer who outshined her.
@@DavidRichardson95 That's not entirely true. Phyllis Hyman had hits and some crossover mainstream appeal...she charted in the UK/Europe (not everybody would do that)...she had her demons but she never truly got the support of her label, let alone from the head of it...That young powerhouse singer you're referring to (Whitney Houston) only got that big due to unconditional, ongoing and endless support from everybody to the point of having material/producers chosen specifically for her (again, most artists only wish that)...and although she was gifted and talented she only wrote 1 song ever and spent most of her career being a puppet of the head of her label (Clive Davis)...people forget that much truth...With regard to Anita Baker her appeal was sadly limited, because she always refused to do uptempo songs...a bit like Adele nowadays (if there's any comparison)...
@@SmartRobot-wc2fb To each his own.
@@DavidRichardson95 "To each his own"...Let's be aware of that when trying to establish comparisons then...
This woman's voice is like no other you can't duplicate her voice cause it's one of a kind

I remember my Dad bought the Rapture album and when he played it numerous times on his record player, I was mesmerized by the soulful sounds of Anita Baker and she was the true voice of R&B.

He looked depressed then smh like he just didn't wanna be here y'all
Ms. Baker's short hair cut is laid as usual, I'm loving the pink suit and earrings, she just needed a plum/berry colored lipstick in my humble opinion.
Bernadette the daughter on good times she is far more beautiful than anita!!!
I so love this woman!
She was literally 28 years old at that time.
@datoryionedmond1725 Yep. She looked younger than that tho. She looks like a baby in this interview. A very winsome lady. Just gorgeous
