The Village Dessert: Taro With Coconut Milk and Sugar (Vakalolo)🥥🇫🇯

- In this vlog we are going out to the farm to plant some Kasa (kava stems). We are also going to harvest Taro from my farm in order to make the village dessert and find some coconuts that is part of the ingredient for the dessert.
The Vakalolo is a fan favourite amongst the villagers but it takes a long process for it to make. First we have to clean the taros, cook it, then peel it and hit it until it gets sticky. We also have to make coconut milk out of the coconuts we gathered from the farm and then mix it with melted sugar which gives the sauce or the dip that we need for the taros in order to be the vakalolo.
There are plenty ways you can make vakalolo and this is one of the ways we do it with taros.
YN Kava
Nothing beats sitting around the Tanoa with your Family and Friends after a hard day’s work and just sharing stories and reminiscing about our Island Life. No matter which Pacific Island you are from, Kava is something that we all share uniquely and that beautiful laughter when we share our island Jokes.
The Village Boys and Men of Moturiki Island Plant, Harvest, Process, Dry, Hand Pound and Package The Yavusa Navuti Kava (YN Kava) right here at our Home in Navuti Village.
So for the best Kava and the best Laughs and your way of helping the Village Men and Boys of Moturiki.

I just started watching your videos. I enjoy watching them along with your positive narrative. Keep up the good work...
Good thing about Uraia is, although he's a city boy, he's willing to try and learn to do things in the village. That's showing motivation. It's an interesting process
He's been doing that ever since "returning" home from Denmark, his struggles are very relatable to any overseas based Islander.
@@Samizouza You're right Samizouza, I recently just got to know him. He's doing his best though.
Trying my Best But thankful im learning from the Best farmers like my uncles and the boys 😁
That's the way to go bro . Keep learning don't give up.@@uraiatabua
Cousins did you dirty uce. Leaving the hardest coconuts to husk.
Joeses is a hard working person and a good guy who cooks and makes the most delicious food ❤❤❤❤
Bula ❤ I like Taro more than Kasava. Jose is a very hardworking guy. He can do anything and is always joking. I greet you all
Josese needs someone like you he will plant your taro and make you laugh.
@@mereonimario669 I'm probably not his type😂
That's what you think you never know. There's a saying if you see an opportunity take it you never know when that opportunity will come back again.

Josese is a real fijian village boy who does it all.
Yes 😊
Next video village boys finds a wife 😂 let me know so I can fly down and be a contestant 👀😊😂.
Take every Girl with you when you fly Down 😂😂
Boy if you want to know what the Fijian humor is like when trying to speak English, this is as raw as it comes..lmao..the “kasei, Kalavo, boci, kums” are common swear words and the timing being used by the boys were spot on, and then there were the pointing someone next you by using one’s tongue, which means his selling his ass to you, would you take it? Usually people would shake their heads and laugh. Then there’s that normal boys talk of dating girls..hahaha
54:00= my boy Pai (Big P) with the black vest, what is he doing in the village? Bro should be playing in the Vanua Rugby Challenge Championship for Ovalau.Get him back in shape, Uraia!!🤷🏽♂🦾💪
It's good to see uraia learning things and experience the village life it's soooo good I have learned the village life to I'm from new Zealand but my back ground is Samoa
Footpath looks good, vinaka Josese & Uraia for being creative and innovative to make things happen for the village! Kudos to all the boys and their engagement in this regard! Cheers!
Wow the foot path looks great, your village is beautiful. Watching your channel makes me miss my home provinces. Qalu is what we call it in Lau….. looks delicious. Ylei m always craving for the food…. Sa ca tale
Thank you Elenoa 😊
❤❤❤ one of the best videos ever thanks for putting Fiji 🇫🇯 on the world map
In Samoa they call that the "Tafolo", they usually use the breadfruit.
We also use bread fruit but in a different way. This type is widely used but there are varieties of how we do it in Fiji. This is only one type.
I prefer breadfruit qalu
Yes plenty of ways we can do valolo here in Fiji as Epeli Said. But i hope to try the somoan version one Day 😊
Another great blog uraia n josese is a hard working young man i love his jokes n the way. He talks to you openly i have wish one day you built moturiki island hideway resort and have people from denmark usa uk aust nz visit you motukriki uraia
He can at least start with a homestay for now if he wanted to, especially with opportunities aplenty from his grog business.
Bula bro, hopefully in the future😊
Man brother Sami, its like you Can read my mind😂 have a blessed Day brother 😁
@@uraiatabua No worries bro, start small then work towards bigger things aye 😉
Uraia we will help u n bless ur dreams come true i ll make sure we help u get ur dream true
In PNG especially in Bougainville they call it 'tamatama'
Bougainvilliens don't use super only pure Lolo.
Hey!!! We have a similar recipe but we call it “fa’ausi kalo” fa’ausi is like the sweet coconut caramel so we can make faausi banana and taro. Wow, interesting, but great job love!
Interesting what does "kalo" mean. Cos in Fiji it's also called qalu in some provinces
Bula vinaka, hopefully i Can try that version one Day 😊
Much respect for the boys especially joesese
When you 'rere' Don't 'kasei' Hahaha Dou Bula! #Gavuiii 😅

Future chief 😊
Enjoying your blog, malo from Canberra, Australia.❤
Ko na gone Josese, gone sona naba dua🤣🤣🤣Vinaka KaiNoqu
Bula bothers I love this island desert your process is similar to our Tafolo process made out of breadfruit same process and our Faausi is made out of kalo taro bumkin or casava in Samoa, we bake the mass taro mix with fresh coconut cream ( pe'epe'e ) in the umu in half bread size once it cooks slice them into small squares size like ice cubes then put them aside makesure the separate umu is still burning to heat up the hot rocks and prepare the fresh coconut cream and sugar get some red hot rocks from the umu hold it over the bowl by using tonk made from coconut leave brunch over the bowl of coconut cream and start to drop sugar on the hot rocks to burn the sugar and it will drip into the bowl of coconut cream mix or stair up the coconut cream while the burning sugar is slowly melted into the bowl of coconut stair up the mix until its brown like a caramel flv once the sauce is ready then scoup some taro in a island [plate made out of coconut leaves cover with banana leaves mix that sauce with the kalo oh yummy if you want some more flv you can add lemon leave if you want but its always don't need and it is ready to serve to the oldies first ...🤣🥥🥥🥥🥥🥥.
Man, Uraia, I know that feeling when you struggled to husk the coconuts 😂😂. The more times you do it, the better you get at it. Man what would a Q and A be like with you and the boys? 😂 I can't wait for the next video 👏
The struggles of an overseas Fijian 😂
@@Samizouza you got that right brudah 🤣
Bula bro, the struggle is real But practice makes Champions 😊😁
@@uraiatabua You go get it Uraia. We all cheering you on and at awe of your journey!! What doesnt kill you, makes you stronger and better!
Oh ka pai to farming 👍 look so delicious
This is awesome, everybody works together to achieve a goal in your village. The western countries are not really like that.
Because individualism is very apparent in said western countries compared to communalism in third world societies.
@@angiesniche I agree with you on that.
@@Samizouza Yes, it's more preferred to live in a village, I mean I am just saying.
@@MwishaLudack Well you can clearly see that anyways so it's all good, in the village everyone is cool but in the cities and towns people are pricks but not all of them. 😂
Yeah everybody for the same goal😂
Josese is always the main boy of the show
Thanks for watching 😊
Mehn I like how Ura is new to the farm life yet is very optimistic about it...🎉 Thanks ura

Josese is a vibe 💯😄
Almost can taste the vakalolo....thanks so much Uraia for this video. I remembered my grandfather making vakalolo on special occasions when I was young. The smell and the taste and all that pounding. I would just go for the syrup more. I remember the ones that's roasted again in balls & then coated with the roasted grated coconut (something like that). Oh yea, my favorite is the breadfruit vakalolo with the white sweet lolo. Oh man! Brings back beautiful memories.. I've been wanting to make it but have no idea how. Love this video so much. Now we will try it and show our kids how to make it. Malo. 💖
Thanks for watching 😊
