Preparing food the traditional way at night for the village funeral (Lovo Gang)🇫🇯

- In this vlog we got a short notice that the village funeral has been moved back one day. As Josese says we are on plan be and we have to act fast in order to make sure we can feed all the people that are coming to the funeral.
In the late afternoon we went to the farm to harvest and collect cassava that we are going to cook in the earth oven, underground oven or lovo as they call it in Fiji. The process for making lovo in a village funeral is long. It is an all night job which I personally experience for the first time in my life.
This vlog follows the lovo gang and the other activities in the village prior to the funeral.

I was invited to Sabeto Village, Nadi to attend a very tradition Fijian Funeral and have to say felt very honoured and privileged to be asked to attend. My friend had family in the village and I became an adopted daughter over the years. Lots of work goes into preparation for a funeral and I took gifts of a mat, can of oil and candles for the family .It was a whole day affair and very cultural. Id never seen a cow slaughtered in such a way before and they soon cut it all up. I sat cross legged, very difficult, helping cut up vegetables etc for various recipes. The family received lots of gifts and shared some around. I was fortunate to receive a beautiful mat which I still have and treasure.

I got to give it up for you village boys, man that looks like hard work but y'all make it look easy. My parents moved to Auckland, NZ from Fiji in the early 80s so all I've known is western city life. My mother grew up in Taveuni and she'd always tell me and my siblings how easy we have it in NZ and we still complain smh lol. Watching your vlogs makes me realise how much some of us western city people tend to take for granted 🤦♀️ Y'all are the real MVP's for sure 💯👏 such hard workers. Bula we collect rain water for drinking and we have an aquifer that we get water from 😊 the Electricity is purely from solar 😊
I take my hat off to Moturiki villagers very self sufficient despite the mortuary being full. Managed to build the coffin at the last minute thanks to the multi skilled head chef. As always in most villagers the most fun is around the lovo crew. Vinaka Uraia, Josese, Pai “Son” and Bond for explaining to viewers about making lovo. Good thing with lovo baked cassava it lasts a few days longer than boiled cassava.
