  • The Groundhog Day movie meaning has been interpreted in many ways. In this video analysis we look deep into what it means to be a god and if Phil's all knowing (omniscient) powers or his power over death (immortality) is enough to qualify him.

Wherever you go, there you are. I spent my 20’s in the Virgin Islands surfing, sailing, tourist women coming and going and I was miserable deep inside. I had a lot of unpacked baggage. Sometimes it takes a change of scenery, a near death experience, a deep loss, to have an awakening. You meet yourself every day and you can’t escape what you need to work on. This movie inspired me to make the best of the moment yet play the long game. I’ve suffered tremendous loss and bounced off the bottom many times. 20 years in Hawaii now, close to nature, and finally at peace with the temporary nature of everything. When you believe every moment of every day is a new beginning you simply change your mind and change your life. Do the things you love, because in the end, it’s only you in the coffin. When you’re being true to yourself, everything attracts and helps you along, but you have to make the effort. Work towards and build the life that makes you wanna jump out of bed in the morning and embrace it.

I got a chuckle out of the part about Pennsylvania! I was born in Scranton and now I live near Punxsutawney! Nice analysis of the movie!

This movie was always special to me. I didn't have a lot of guidance growing up and this movie taught me important lessons. Also groundhogs day is my birthday and my last name is murray just like Bill! Always felt like a strange coincidence.

This is some high quality content. Where you been all my life? I’m binging your back catalog right now. Started by looking for an insightful look at Clue and watched a great video. Then UA-cam suggested you for Life of Pie and now I’m hooked. Keep it going brother!

Yes, you got the meaning right, especially the song. The same thing that the protagonist went through happened to me. I found out that you just gotta live the present moment, and love everyone unconditionally because they are you, and you are them.

For some it's harder than others. I'm talking about the interpretation of movies. I often finish a movie, and especially with movies like these, feeling inspirited and refreshed as if I've been given a divine calling or mission, though at the same time having no idea what that would be. And these explanations help to grow a deeper interpretation of these movies, thus helping people to better connect themselves to such a story.
Thank you for doing this. keep up the work!

Please do "Edge of Tomorrow". A kind of Ground Hogs Day. The role reversal is writing genius. In my opinion.

I really like these investigations into the moral foundations of a story. Would you consider doing _Her_ ? I felt that 2013 movie took an interesting look at a near future utopian / dystopian world and addressed the question of loneliness.

I've always wondered how spending hundreds or thousands of years in the same day, would affect the rest of Phil's real life once he broke out. Can a mere 30 or 40 more years really satisfy him?

3:47 - "What would you do if you were stuck in one place?" How many times do I hear that in counselling - because until you discover your 'life script', you will go round and round making the same old mistakes again and again? However, once you break free, that's when you come alive - you finally have autonomy - and are a god, being free of death (unfreedom).
The Way is your journey to greater and greater freedom (that God gives - not just the freedom to choose whether or not to believe in His Son).
The Truth is that you are not the anxious, depressed, powerless individual, but an interconnected person in a constant condition of flux - i.e. becoming (since nobody is a finished book), made in the image of the second person of the Holy Trinity (who is also in interconnectedness, inseparable from the other two persons).
The LIfe is the living process of constant growth and discovery - the newness of recreation - "I am that I am".

Groundhog Day is Dead Poets Society from a different perspective. Essentially, they talk about the same thing.
But if you go further to explore why change is so difficult, you need to master Gurdjieff's teachings.

The movie makes the point that being a god is not just about being immortal. Rita embodies the god-like virtues that Phil lacks and the day won’t progress until he has won her blessing.
