22:00 Wow! That library scene would have been awesome. But having learned piano, and knowing how long it takes to get as GREAT as Phil is at the end, I know he was in that time loop for YEARS. Anybody who has not learned piano would not know that.
OMG, brain droppings from the mind that devised the masterpiece. This is absolute gold. His frankness and specificity are a tremendous gift to all of us. May that fine effort impel greatness by those who listen and are inspired.
Fascinating look into the collaborative process. What i take away from it is that it’s a once in a lifetime situation that brings the just right talented people together, sprinkled with some luck and serendipity that makes a classic. I think the conflict plays a great a role rather than if it were an effortless process.i don’t think any great work is accomplished without suffering.
It's hilarious that even years later there are cut scenes that Rubins just can't let go. This is what collaboration is like. And strangely appropriate for the movie.
Thank you for posting this. I just did a whole video on filming locations and the information here is wonderful. I just want to Harold’s grave again it’s in my video
Danny, I love the book your father wrote on refraction. I have and still read parts of it hundred if not thousands of times. I wonder if your father influenced your writing.
I love the idea that when he finally wakes up on February 3rd, Rita isn't impressed because she has been living THAT DAY over and over and is always waking up next to Phil but I think that might have been too much
Nobody could have played the characters better. Perfect casting. Hilarious, different, odd, off-putting, yet magnetic. I always redeem Bill Murray by the end of every movie he's in.
My favorite movie, glad they pulled any reference to it’s a wonderful life. That would have pulled the audience out of the movie to long and into thinking about how the 2 films relate to each other.

You did mention 10 000 of years in your Second Revision (January 7, 1992). PHIL You want to know what's really amazing? I've been waiting for you every day for ten thousand years. I dream of you every night of my life. You've been my constant weapon against total despair, and just knowing you exist has kept me alive. How's that?"
Go visit Woodstock, IL, where they filmed this movie. They have an annual event there over Groundhog day celebrating the movie. It's a really cute town. And I bought a early edition of the screenplay there in the bookstore. In that one, Phil's ex-girlfriend uses voodoo to cause the time warp.
I love the idea that when he finally wakes up on February 3rd, Rita isn't impressed because she has been living THAY DAY over and over and is always waking up next to Phil but I think that might have been too much
I read the novel Replay by ken Grimwood before this movie came out and I had thought it was somehow an inspiration for it at the time, but it seems that was completely wrong. It's still a good book to ready if you stumble across it.
I think it’s interesting the library idea, but I was expecting him to say that it was replaced with the piano lessons. How long would it take to be pretty good if you had lessons every day? Depends on the person but I’ve been playing guitar for about 50 years and am so so (maybe try harder!) but if bills character really went for it? Great film.
I would've told Danny that the ending was too pat. It should've ended with an epilogue showing Phil going back year after year to cover GD, even as he became famous in Pittsburgh.
This movie is the main message of Buddhism. You are doomed to suffer your own mental outlook over and over again until YOU pull yourself out of it yourself...without any assistance from anyone or anything including God. It is perhaps stark and difficult but true. Faith in a divinity ain't gonna get you out of this one, Budro, you've got to produce!
They need to announce the sequel to this movie and just release the original all over again.
That's hilarious!
Clever ...
Lol... that is seriously funny!!
I wouldn't even be mad.
Took me a minute....but I got it!....maybe I can move to a real tomorrow now.
It’s like I said. I love this film.
I’ve seen it over a hundred times.
Every time it's showing.
And 100% every Feb 2, yeah?
Maybe you just think you saw it over a hundred times…😉

One of my all-time favorite movies! ♥

Wonderful information on an equally wonderful film!
Fascinating. Thank you for lifting the curtain for us. And, gradually, hearing story after story, I came to appreciate you, Danny Rubin!
I just discovered your channel and I am so delighted. I am hoping this will prove to be the invaluable resource I've been searching for.
man, it is just a hell of a classic
Enjoyed the mention of It's a Wonderful Life. Seeing Groundhog Day made me always wonder about IAWL's influence on the writing.
Thank you for posting this. I just did a whole video on filming locations and the information here is wonderful. I just want to Harold’s grave again it’s in my video
we all love this movie. We seen it so many times, almost as many times as Bill was stuck in the cycle, lmao
I can't imagine working with you guys. Ramos. He was a keeper. Thanks for the wonderful entertainment.

I also love your movie Groundhog Day
Hey! That was really good!
DVD Shrink is my friend, I just got Groundhog Day today.
Watching this on the day itself!

I've always thought that Larry's character isn't developed enough and would like to have seen more of him, but as I am a cameraman, I would say that.
Thank you very much for the video. Tbh I always though it was around a lifetime, glad to think he though the same.
For me I imagine 30 to 40 years. Idk why I just feel that.
I want a remake of it
thank you
Awesome collaboration. I had heard Bill Murray demanded a few re-writes and a more philosophical tone. I wonder if that’s true.

i remember the part where he gets the piano student evicted by paying the piano teacher a lot of money for that.
ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS IS MY TWO FRONT TEETH
With the marking of time, it is like the Count of Monte Cristo.
I would've told Danny that the ending was too pat. It should've ended with an epilogue showing Phil going back year after year to cover GD, even as he became famous in Pittsburgh.
The movie makes it hard to guess how long hes been stuck there..
