My favourite quote: "I would literally rather ride a 300 or 400 K ride than do this right now. I'm honest but I'm on oh my god look at those sheep hi sheepie hellooo". Concentrate Katie, concentrate.
Hi Katie. You are an absolute LEGEND. You're positive attitude, drive and enthusiasm for everything you do is amazing. You turn negatives into positives. I laugh with you...i cry with you and i feel your exitement when you conquer your goals. You inspire me to be the best that i can. Whenever i'm feeling down or having a tough day (i suffer with anxiety & depression) i simply watch one of your videos and i feel heaps better. Keep up the great work. Much Love from "Down Under" Regards.... Leigh. xx 💞🚴💞🚴💞
Legend! What a great feeling that must have been. Moments like this are why I refuse to give up on climbs I find hard because one day I know it's possible, just got to keep getting out there ☺️
I can totally understand the anxiety and thrill. I was a bit scared the whole week leading to my Zoncolan climb. And when it flattened a bit about 2 km before the summit I literally had to hold my tears back. Even now a few months after it, the pride I feel... What a self-esteem booster a bike is. Also, it is the best quality time for couples. I rode quite a lot with my wife for the past three years. She gradually came from "I can't be bothered with 2 hours riding" and "I hate climbs" to 180 km rides and 15% gradients. She is suffering a severe biking history amnesia lately :).
Hardknott is a beast! A long long time ago, my sister and I attempted to do Hardknott on a 150cc Lambretta scooter! Needless to say we didn't. She just managed to get the scooter up and I walked with the knapsack! Chapeau Katie!!!
Hardknott is the spiritual centrepoint of my cycling experiences. Whatever else I've challenged myself to ride, Hardknott remains the place where I learned what's what, and especially how big a part the mind plays in overcoming a physical challenge. Only ridden it 4 times, twice clean, twice with dabs. I love that hill. It's my Uluru.
Well done Katie, big climb that. I did it as part of C2C in a day, quickly followed by Wrynose. Thankfully it was in the first 15 miles and not the last 15! I used The Rake in Ramsbottom and Mythom Steeps in Hebden Bridge to train for Hardknott. Even though the C2C was 150miles, which was way the longest ride I’d attempted, it was Hardknott that scared the Bejaysus out of me! Glad to say though I managed it all the way. I will return at some point...
Brilliant Katie! Congratulations! Don’t know if you remember but we met at the food stop before Hardknott on the 2018 Fred. And you had said not long after that you would go back and try again! What an achievement, you powered up there! You destroyed the 33% hairpin! Such a great goal to conquer. There’s nothing you can’t climb after this!
You go girl ! I am inspired to re-try my nemesis hill now. Hicks road and Mount Uhminum in the hills above San Jose California. It is a beast of a climb that I have failed three times. After that I will conquer the lost coast in Northern California. I got my butt whooped there a few months ago - I am ashamed to admit that I had to hitch a ride out of there. Thanks for the inspiration...
You're so amazing Katie. Truly an inspiration. I NEVER comment on UA-cam videos, but I always watch yours and I just love you. You have such a connection to your fans in a way that no one else really does. Keep up these fantastic vids, and I will keep riding just behind you x
Based on the video title I knew this was going to be good so I went to the big screen to watch. When you passed over the top I jumped up and said 'YES!!!'. What a climb...and you did it! Well done Katie - you're awesome.
Great job!!! Well done for showing the climb who is boss. To see how made up You were at the end was great, has been on my bucket list of climbs for ages🚲🚲👍👍😁😁
And on a rim brake bike too. U don't want heavy disc brakes rubbing on a climb like that. Great effort Katie. I've got a climb in Snowdonia that I had to back off the one time I tried it. This has inspired me to go back and try again.
Great job Katie! Those bends are brutal then you get the last kick up to completely finish you off! You picked a nice day for it, the Lakes at their best!
Well Done! Been there a few times, once got an old Sherpa camper van up it - but not from the steepest side! Never climbed it on a bike, I have local steepish climbs and had to walk many at first now I can ride most as I'm back cycling now - after year off. Real feeling of achievement when you get to the top for the first time
I rode up newlands first time back in august, on a hybrid...got 3/4s up..went back and got right up and had the front wheel lifting...then done honistor and got about 100 metres off top, stopped then went again 2 week later and got up. This is deffo on the cards for early 21. Got a road bike now and breezed up newlands last week, but I have been caning the zwift and hills lately. Good effort and well done, nothing worse than the belly full of dred before you set off haha
Holy moly, Katie! You're a hill killer! I've only been watching (subscribed) for a short time, and you make climbing those hills look easy, honestly. Congratulations on your victory!
Just discovered your videos Katie, loving your positive attitude, not sure I’m ready for Hardknott Pass yet though , well done you for nailing it. Keep up the great work.
Wow well done. So you would rate ribble then? I have taken the plunge after I struggled on the hills towards the end of the audax and brought an 11 40. I am just waiting for the chain and extender before fitting it. Should save the legs.
well done lass !! in my first year of cycling my friend caig battersby took me up there on a 70 mile ride and i was on a steely peugeot 531 pro with 52/42 chain rings and a 21 block on the back ! stalled half way up and was hard to get going again but managed it lol
Hope to have attempt no.2 maybe next year, managed to get to the bottom of that final hairpin on 11/30 cassette, I think with 11/34 on my Sonder and on a good day I should be able to overcome pthat. Its.a very technical climb and much of it is in the head, if you can manage a crawl at 3km an hour and perhaps put in some track stand training in it'll help keep you steady. That section isn't even that long to look at, it's the sheer steepness that messes with your head; in a similar way to say Mow Cop which is in fact probably twice as long at "just" 25-27%.
Yeah not bad 😉, seriously though Katie massive well done. Hardknot is a monster of a climb. It makes grown men cry. Super happy for you. Chapeau. 👊💪🤘👏👏👏
Had a similar experience myself recently here in USA. What a feeling once you finally conquer it! However, no harm in getting bigger gears either especially when you hit 60+ years 😃. Well done. Love your videos so thank you.
Well done, it’s a great sense of achievement . It’s often the traffic that causes a fail and I know what you mean about the front end rearing up, like a horse refusal. A steel bike with steel forks keeps you grounded preferably with 1:1 gearing. Cheers
Brilliant!! Saw you did this on Strava and was looking forward to seeing the video. Have you heard of The Cowlyd in North Wales? Simon Warren said, "If I’d had the energy left to cry when I reached the top of this road then I would, it just broke me, it’s insanity. The Cowlyd is easily the toughest stretch of Tarmac I’ve ever ridden this side of The Angliru" lol Somebody Everested it on the longest day of the year in June...not really any decent videos of it about, be great to see you tackle that next summer!! There's also another mental one a few miles down the round called The Eigiau. I might have a go at the smaller one when I've lost a bit more weight and strenghthened my core.
Great work, Katie! Determination pays off, doesn't it? Does the Ribble have a higher low gear, compared with your 'everyday' bike, the one with the 40T rear cog?
Well done Katie great effort. Another great hill challenge for you to try, that not many people know about, is the Cowlyd Climb near Dolgarrog in North Wales. Its an absolute beast.
Yay! Nice one! I've climbed Hardknott four times on the 'Fred' 2015/16/17/18. Was down to do it last year but injury put paid to that. Doing the 'Fred' next year though!
Quality effort me the same I’ve done it with a saddle hosteling in eskdale and the Fred Whittington both time’s walking for different reasons I think the climb cane at 93 miles and legs nothing in in em What gearing did you use?
Well done. You are strong. I havnt done it yet but talk about next level climbs. First one for me was shibden wall in Halifax. Cobbles mean you have to keep speed going or you will fall off. Wheelie or wheelspin. Not that long be just grinding to the top
The Hirnant pass out of Bala in North Wales is other worldly. Wonderful lanes through the valley with a few punchy climbs then the valley opens up and you see the road going up and up and up. You want to give that a go 100%
Well done Katie on conquering your nemesis with some gears to spare as well. I could see how elated you were at finally achieving what you thought was too difficult. Persistance at something always pays off in the end. Time to have an attempt at the QOM?
awesome job!! totally flying in the face of popular opinion but honestly I've always thought Wrynose was the hardest of the two, if you ride it from the bottom junction of Little Langdale its way longer and tougher, the midway break on Hardknott gives you a nice little breather aswell, Wrynose is just relentless and that last section is brutal... go on Katie, do Wrynose next 😋
First of all very well done Katie. At least this time round you didn’t have the 90 odd miles and all the climbing you had to do before you got to hard knock. I’ve only ever done that climb the ones when I done Fred Witton And i am afraid I had three goes at it but didn’t walk I stopped turned round and went back down to Clip in which I must admit I find very hard in itself😂 but I was not going to walk for me I class that as a Phalia but that is just me very stubborn and bullheaded and not only that I was nursing cramp from 68 miles in but that is one place I want to go back to and have another crack at the whole thing as I really did enjoy my day out, really enjoyed the video and as it was one that I had asked for you to do bit of a nasty ba...rd aren’t I well done again 👍
Congratulations Katie. I literally fell off my bike just before that steepest bend. Just came to a halt and toppled over. I did get over Wrynose though and completed C2C.
Well done, I rode it on the day before for the first time on my ebike, it was even very hard on that due to having a very high 1st gear. Was very tempted to stop on that corner but kept going with a bit of zig zagging before it eases for the last bit.
I felt like that before climbing the Tourmalet. It was very hard work, not helped by my balls going numb from being sat at that angle for so long :) The sense of achievement was incredible though. Well done!
Bike and girl become one well done listen to the voice who tell u that ur amazing and u will fly. Ur so much better then u believe Katie inspections and encourages is what u r xx
Well done, I'm in hospital having chemotherapy so have my own hill to climb but I've enjoyed watching this ❤️
Stay positive. Good luck
Best of luck man, be brave...
Don't fight the climb, just climb it.
Sending good thoughts and best wishes your way, steve o! #staySTRONG
Good luck with the treatment.👍

Was really cheering you on, great job Katie.
And what beautiful views.
Well done Katie...Stirling effort...👍👍
Brilliant, absolutely brilliant! I'm so glad you went back and nailed it.

Congrats on doing your climb!!!!! Something about that one we have to to really go for and when we get it it's blummin' magic! :)
Hardknott is a beast! A long long time ago, my sister and I attempted to do Hardknott on a 150cc Lambretta scooter! Needless to say we didn't. She just managed to get the scooter up and I walked with the knapsack! Chapeau Katie!!!

that was freaking amazing to watch. love you honesty and your tenacity. once again you proved you are a badass! HONESTY!! 👌
Oh my god !!!!! It was a steep climb. With a dodgy knee and dodgy arm 👍👏👏 and on the third attempt, well done Kay Kay, Awesome !!
Awesome, good job, congratulations!!!🤗🤗🤗

Well done Katie🤗, it's well worth it for the views stunning. Shows how stronger a rider you've become, must be all those audax with the big climbs.
Well done. The 3 attempts before were the stepping stones to this achievement. You have inspired me to get back on the bike. Thank you.
Well Done! Been there a few times, once got an old Sherpa camper van up it - but not from the steepest side! Yes Katie! Tremendous effort. My legs blew apart there on the Fred Whitten in 2019. Super happy for you. 😃
There is no hill you can't conquer now! Fantastic!!
Fantastic achievement, Katie!! Well done. Truly inspirational.
Just discovered your videos Katie, loving your positive attitude, not sure I’m ready for Hardknott Pass yet though , well done you for nailing it. Keep up the great work.

Love it, I’m looking forward to fighting this soon. Need a cassette change though I’m worried doing it with a 36/28. I would much prefer 34/34.
Bloody brilliant Katie - fantastic inspiration 😻

Congrats. Deffo on my bucket list.
Well done!! You looked like you powered up there 💕 Go Katie!! 💕💕💕💕
Well done Katie. I have been on holiday there and driven over it both ways. That is a beast of a hill 👍🚴
Bloody well done Katie! Only ever attempted it on the Fred Whitton and my legs blew up half way up it. Excellent effort 👍
What an achievement!
I have driven up and down Hardknotts ....no idea how you would cycle up it ...scary ...well done Katie
