This reminds me of my first bike tour in 2010 where I rode across Switzerland, France, and Spain. I didn't have a smartphone back then so I also used paper maps that I had to acquire along the way. Because I didn't have social media and Internet to entertain myself, I spent my evenings studying a Spanish dictionary and tried out the new words the next day. 100km per day is actually quite ambitious with a loaded bike. You're probably young enough to be my granddaughter, but I watched this because you did it without Google Maps. (And also because I want to do some touring in Poland, though would stay further north than you did.) Twenty-five years ago I used to talk to a lot more people along the way to ask about roads, local history, etc. Now I don't talk to people so much, because I have Google Maps, a route programmed into my bicycle computer, and do a lot of history research ahead of time. So I have fewer questions to ask. I miss those older ways and think it's great that you did it the way you did. You may inspire me to try something like that again. I'd have trouble doing it in Poland, though. I recognized a few words from your conversations, but wouldn't be able to follow difficult directions. As for your wet shoes, those can be a real problem as wet socks can chafe your feet, and then you'll really have problems. One technique I and others have used is to put on dry socks, then plastic bread bags over the socks, and then the shoes. It still is troublesome because your feet will sweat inside the bread bags if you do it for a long period, but it can help if you don't push too hard. That is quite an accomplishment to ride 60 miles a day in hilly country, without training, with a camping rig a bit heavier than mine, and regular street shoes without clips. Your grandfather definitely would have reason to be proud of you. I hope it isn't the end of your bicycle touring, no matter what you said at the end of your ride.
We definetively want to see Eva doign more bicycle touring ! It is when you feel your legs can't push the pedals anymore that you learn that our true motors are the brain and the heart ,these are the real sources of energy and motivation to keep you moving, this process of pain and feeling miserable makes us affront our own mentallities and improve emotionally, you have two choices, you stop and surrender in the middle of nowhere only to later to feel bad because you failed, or you manage to rest a little, change your mood and continue with a big smile over the adversity. Resolving these self conflicts really makes us better, more passionate and dedicated persons, able to affront the tallest mountains without hesitation and have the hability to complete our objectives Greetings from Colombia
I didn't realise you weren't an avid cyclist until the end of this video. I can't imagine how difficult that was for you because cycling takes quite some time before you're able to ride 100kms in a day, let alone across the entire country of Poland! Big props to you for making it and that pain you endured is now part of your character and strength passed down to you from your Grandfather. Thanks for sharing your story, legends never die. ♥
"To be a true traveler requires character." I enjoyed hearing your grandfather's epiphanies, and you obviously inherited his character in spades. Very touching story about why you even attempted this adventure, and it is remarkable that you did no pre-ride training. Congratulations!
@@averageuncle8176 Nyes, I don't completely agree. It is a good thing to be well trained and prepared, but as long as you have a normal physique, you could just jump on your bike and you'll train yourself during your trip.
Great journey, congrats!!! Just One tip if I can: it's better to wear wet shoes than flip flops when you ride a bike. Also because the shoes dry in less time when you wear them.
I rode a bike in 2006 from Poznań to the border with Czech Republic no cell phone, not even maps... from there I went to Prague, down to Lints then Bratislava and Budapest. Total 1500km in 30 days... loved it mainly Poland which will always be in my heart ♥️ by the way, I’m Brazilian and didn’t speak any Polish or German or Russian (the common language people would speak there at that time, just English and I was 39 years old... 125kg 😳 anyways, love your adventures 🙏🤩😘
@@zepter00 in 2006 in small towns, where there were more older people it was a very different reality from big cities. If you try again (which you should!) aim for a reasonably achievable target like 50kms. If you ride father than that, great! But don't plan on it. IMO that makes you much happier than trying to complete a record pace which only adds stress and pain.
Poland is such a beautiful country ! It has everything travellers dream of: Beautiful mountains (Zakopane), magical places ( like salt mine in Wieliczka), beautiful cities (Gdansk, Wroclaw), the longest wooden pier in Europe (Sopot) and beautiful beaches (Jastrzebia Gora). Not to mention delicious food and friendly people. Poland is definitely a country worth visiting :)
You have no clue how much you inspired me, I spent the whole last 3 days watching the videos in your channel and I just want to be out in the nature pushing myself to the limit. Much appreciations from Saudi Arabia ❤️
I can't imagine how you manage to do it with a paper map. Cycling is a fun way to explore new destinations. I have done the long-distance cycling before and I loved it. I felt so free and connected with myself
I watch a lot of hiking, biking adventure videos but I have to say that this one moved me deeply. I loved your grandfather's words and I admired your honesty on day 7. You have a wonderful spirit.
Wowww. This vlog was amazing and there are a lot of reasons why I actually loved your vlog. First and foremost, all the scenic views in your video were just amazing, and one thing I learnt from your journey is that in the beginning normally we’re highly motivated, but the real challenge facing us during the journey is that how we carry the same level of motivation till the end. The part where you cried made me realise that it’s ok to feel down a little following a setback but what really matters is that how you buck up and continue putting in efforts towards your final destination. Your message in the end was full of wisdom.
Hi Eva, I have been watching you for a while. You are such a beautiful soul, absolute inspiration for every adventurous person, best wishes from Hungary ❤️🙏

You are an inspiration to many! You don’t know how much you impacted and inspired so many people let alone me for example! You are a TRUE CHAMPION! The spirit you have is amazing and how you talk about your grandfather i can also see that you are like him in so many good and beautiful ways!
Very cool. When I cycled across Canada it was pre-Internet and GPS so I had no choice. I don't know that I would go back to only paper maps, but I will say that the ability to read and understand maps (including online ones) is more important than some people realize. I am astounded by how many people blindly use GPS.
you made me go through curiosity to sadness to anxiety than I had been so happy to see you cross the finish line, So happy for you and you are crazy 100% to cycle like that, no training ! Lady Chapeau!
You know that old saying that "crying is just weakness leaving the body" well I think that applies perfectly to that moment when you were pushing your bike up the hill in flipflops @ 20:00 Good for you! Such a cool trip in memory of your awesome grandfather!
You're awesome Eva with such a beautiful heart!!! Been watching your other videos. Thank you for being such a blessing to Pakistan and other countries in the Middle East. Much love!
Very inspirational trip, you did it and I'm sure that your grandad would be so proud of you. Throughout the journey you have shown resilience and persistence that kept you going. Eva, you're standing on the shoulders of giants and that giant is your grandad. Now it's your turn to climb the ladder, broaden your shoulders so one day someone else - a little girl or a boy - is going to use them to climb even higher. Don't stop. ...
Truly inspirational. My Dad was a cyclist and over the years of his youth, in segments, he rode every coastal path around Great Britain. I've never had that energy and drifted into laziness until a life-changing experience forced me off the sofa in November and now I cycle 15 miles every single day - sometimes more - in all weather and all through the winter. I've lost over 25Kg and although it's a bit of a lonely experience, I am absolutely addicted to cycling. I would love to try something more long distance but I think I'd prefer to go in the company of others - at least ANother. I know parts of Poland - further north than where you rode (although I have been to Krakow) - and I can understand some of the language. Fabulous people. Thanks for the vlog - my legs don't ache so much from today's ride just because of the happiness you inspire.
When a person achieve their goal, that is the best feeling anyone can have, the person has to be motivated and needs determination in what he/she is doing. Your journey is an experience of a lifetime. Proud of you.
When seeing you becoming frustrated on your journey. Something that I use, especially as a cognitive neuroscientist, is to redirect your brain. When you feel too frustrated and down, try not to focus on your destination, but rather take a moment to look where you are. Question what makes this location, region, different or special. Sometimes write these down in your notes. Take deep breaths and enjoy that moment. Also think of what you have done and keep yourself grounded in the moment by looking at things to keep positive, such as scenery, natural beauty, etc. Essentially whatever works. Congratulations you should be proud of yourself. Its a great feeling. Keep trekking girl ;)
Amazing tribute to your grand father! It is really inspiring how you did that without prior training. Kudos! You are an inspiration to many travellers. And awesome locations and Poland is so beautiful. Thank you and keep traveling and posting your experience.
Thank you so much for sharing words of encouragement from your Grandpa and how a strong mind and heart can overcome anything. God bless you on all your future endeavors. You're awesome and look forward to more videos from you
Thank you for showing those bad moments too! It gives me some peace to know that those feelings and bad moments are something others have too. It is somehow different to see those melt downs happen than just hear about them. I should to learn to just make a camp and eat and rest if things are not going well.
Awesome, Eva. I'm doing the same in Brazil, cycling and respecting the distances. Doing what is available since hitchhiking is somehow out of reach for a backpacking right now with the pandemics. Good thing we stay in shape haha. Nice vid!
What an incredible journey, Eva. I'm watching this video a couple of days before I move to three different countries where I've never been/don't yet speak the language for grad school (including Poland). The way you felt the day before beginning--how surreal it was to think you'd embark on such a journey the next day--really resonated with how I feel now. The kindness shown to you by strangers and the way you spoke about your grandfather, and his wise words, brought tears to my eyes. I hope I can take some of his words with me on my journey
You just became one of my heroes! I am a long distance cyclist and I have 2 things that I tell everyone about what I do... 1. Pain is beauty. (It reveals what we are truly made from). 2. The strongest and weakest muscle in the body is located between our ears. (This is the defining factor of what we need to complete any goal that we set before ourselves). Small word of love and support, get a better bike, prepare for the next ride better, and remember our rides never get easier we just got faster and longer (Eddy Merckx)
People just get fed up with long journey and they think about their destination cuz they just feel boring to sit down on one place for long time, but Eva you've just completed your task by cycling it's so hard for anyone you're really a champ. 👏👏
I did a similar trip with my bike about a year ago. Your Speech in the Tent totally reflects the toughts i had and deeply touched me. I wish you all the best in the world, may you have a happy life
Eva zu Beck, you are one dear and special soul, you're truly an amazing inspiration; continuing on in your grandfather's legacy in admirable fashion. I was deeply touched by his words which you had read, how precious! Much love and respect from your number one fan from Montana!
Eva, you made a big mistake: too many kilometers in too few days! Now you never want to ride a bicycle ever again. That's such a pity. Stay positive: get back on the bicycle ... but this time do only 50 kilometers a day. And choose a less mountainous region. Have a nice ride!
I do not agree with you however I understand yur recommedation to start with easier golas/tartgets. But Eva has her goal and tried to achived it without knowledge what long distance and terrain means for her. And she did it however she spent more days in her journey and she suffered many times during these days. I do not trust she will stop ride bicycle forever. She is definitelly affected already. I am sure she will return to traveling and it doesn't matter if on the bike or scooter or by foot. I thing she (will) realise that the journey is the goal and I am proud this young lady can overcomed all obstacles and achived her goal.
I so enjoy watching your vlog. It is inspiring and I feel like I am traveling with you in heart. I feel the highs and the lows, knowing it is all part of life. For some reason, seeing the difficulties of camping makes everything I am doing at home seem so easy!
This is soooooo inspiring I would love to try something like this when I’m a bit older. But unfortunately as a girl in the US I find it scary to go to new places alone.

Wow! Congrats! I didn't know Poland was such a beautiful country with such warm people. I have never there, but I should definitely visit your home country. It kinda reminds me of my home country Bulgaria, but more neat and tidy. Your journey reminds me of how I started biking. I was just like you - maybe the longest distance I have ever made on bike was 20km. And out of nowhere I decided to participate in a race which is in particular a full circle around the mountain near Sofia - Vitosha mountain. The race is completely offroad in the mountain and with mountain bikes - a very tough race for a complete newbie like me. And the distance is 100km. So, I managed to finish and I was so happy! Since then, I have been riding mountain bike for 5 years already and it has become more than a hobby - maybe a passion. So, never say you won't ride bicycle again, you don't know what you are missing. :) I hope you are well now and do what you love. Cheers!
Wow womn, that's so amazing! It actually reminded me of a solo bike trip I did. Very unprepared. No tent or sleeping bag. The total distance was 210 Km. I had done the math, but didn't include the exhaustion. I managed to do 70 Km, and felt exhausted. So I began to sign to hitchhike for someone to take me to the next town. I spent like 3 hours doing so. Finally a guy stopped. He said he used to be a cyclist, so he knew what it was all about. He took me to the next town and I took a bus to my final destination. You're so amazing and inspiring.

Your comment was so great to read. I can fully relate. Good luck for you too.
Loved your comment and thanks for sharing how to use wet shoes technique 💕🙏
We definetively want to see Eva doign more bicycle touring !
It is when you feel your legs can't push the pedals anymore that you learn that our true motors are the brain and the heart ,these are the real sources of energy and motivation to keep you moving, this process of pain and feeling miserable makes us affront our own mentallities and improve emotionally, you have two choices, you stop and surrender in the middle of nowhere only to later to feel bad because you failed, or you manage to rest a little, change your mood and continue with a big smile over the adversity.
Resolving these self conflicts really makes us better, more passionate and dedicated persons, able to affront the tallest mountains without hesitation and have the hability to complete our objectives

Plastic bags over socks are a LIFE SAVER! and a good hack to not to have to buy summer and winter cycling shoes.
There is one important thing to remember during these trips:
"Your goal is not your desination. Your goal is the trip."
Absolutely. Anyway training is also needed, probably some experiences with bikepacking are an advantage.
@@averageuncle8176 Nyes, I don't completely agree. It is a good thing to be well trained and prepared, but as long as you have a normal physique, you could just jump on your bike and you'll train yourself during your trip.
@@artuurheyvaert2836 Training is required, otherwise, your knees may suffer.

Well said.
💪👍
Muito legal! Vou começar a me aventurar ainda esse ano! Abraços meu irmão brasileiro!
Polish people speak English more than German or Russian..by few lenghts.
@@zepter00 in 2006 in small towns, where there were more older people it was a very different reality from big cities. Whole Eastern Europe, the older people learnt Russian or German in school, not English... of course, the more the time passes, the generation that had English instead at school the number rises... I hope you didn’t feel offended... incredible how much people get offended by anything these days... sad times...
@@fernandot.salgado6680 I don’t feel offended I just wrote to you FACTS. I am a 41 year old Pole and I know my country. BTW: Poland is central European country. Last time when german was teached in Polish schools was in 1944.
I am medical aspirant ....i have dreamed of it for sooo many years...but unfortunately i failed again and again and the situation is that i have become a hopeless person... But now after watching this vlog......i am superrrrrrr inspired.... Your grandpa's line is applicable to all those person who want to accomplish their dreams.... struggle hardships huddles are always there to pull you back.... The way you cried in mid of your journey....made me cry too because its the exact feeling...i don' when i will become a doctor i don't know how much more i have to go......but as you said....our mind and body is capable of doing those things which we can never except.....
Thank youuuu sooo muchhh for such a vlog....and those who ever reading it.... I just want to say.. Love your dreams...and stick to what you have planned for yourself.....each of us are travelers in this life.....❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
If you try again (which you should!) aim for a reasonably achievable target like 50kms. If you ride father than that, great!
But don't plan on it.
IMO that makes you much happier than trying to complete a record pace which only adds stress and pain.
Train hard and then enjoy jorney without crying.
“The world belongs to the brave and brevary is all in your mind.” This moved me.thanks.😃
I love how you showed the emotional aspect of the journey too and your grandfather's story is truly inspiring!! 👍
You have no clue how much you inspired me, I spent the whole last 3 days watching the videos in your channel and I just want to be out in the nature pushing myself to the limit.
Much appreciations from Saudi Arabia ❤️

17:28 "to be a true traveler requires character." I love the wisdom of your grandfather. 👍🏻
Eva: I would never go on a *SOLO* horse trek ever again.
1 year later: Cycling *ALONE* across Poland 😅😅
Such a brave woman
Ahaha you're too observant 😂
Lalrinmawia Sailo lol
You are so brave Eva. You inspire me in all your videos. You are such a wonderful woman. Your grand father is proud of you for sure.
I can't imagine how you manage to do it with a paper map. Cycling is a fun way to explore new destinations. I have done the long-distance cycling before and I loved it. I felt so free and connected with myself
She does know the language of Polen;) That makes things a bit easier. Anyway, it was an impressive task.
The determination and courage of this woman is beyond every limits. ❣️
20:20 i went in tears along with you... it was so emotional. am sure your grandpa would be proud of you. good job really.
I haven't been living in Poland for the last 10 years, so this video was a great reminder of how beautiful my home country is! So thanks for that! 😉 You are a true legend to ride the bike over this distance!
Poland is so beautiful, I love nature and countryside so this is perfect. Brilliant journey. Sending Love from UK and Trinidad & Tobago xx
Love you, Eva
You made me cry.
Thanks for your motivation, your way of thinking and living.
Your grandpa will definitely proud of you ❤️
Eva, wow! I've watched some of your videos but this one may have been my favorite. Your spirit, charm, strength, and bravery is simply incredible. You're such an amazing person and such an inspiration. Felt like I was on the edge of the seat your whole trip and cracked a big smile and yeah even teared up a little when you made it to your destination 🎉 Your grandfather would be so proud of you. Thank you for the videos and for being so amazing 😊
Darn, I no longer have an excuse to not bike 3km to the office... very touching video. Keep going!

I has been riding a motorcycle for long time, but few days ago realised how joyful can be cycling. And was thinking about traveling around Poland. Clicked some random video - and someone is already doing that in Poland :) Thank you, you motivated me
Eventually! I was waiting for this episode to be uploaded so impatiently :)
I am really glad that finally after such a long time there is a video in your channel which was filmed in Poland.
I hope that thanks to that many ppl would visit our country as soon as it would be possible.
Pozdrowienia! 😀🇵🇱
Haha, I hope so too! There's a lot to see that's for sure 🙂🌿

Not after this video lol. It looks like third world country.
Meldondg Lord you know that cycling on the highways is forbidden?
And what is more that was the point of the trip, to choose the most remote way to avoid crowds, cars and big cities? 🤦♂️
@@oceansaway5675 Who cares about highways? In this video roads and buildings in Poland looks like from the poor communist country.
This is the most amazing video I have ever seen in my life. It felt as if I was there with you on that journey, it made me laugh, made me cry, made me feel grateful and alive. Thank you for putting this out in the world. Eva zu beck, you are one of a kind. I am smitten.
My grandfather was Polish, fought in the battle of monte Casino. Carry my Kowalczyk surname with pride here in Yorkshire
You mean Monte Cassino. So sorry for you grandfather! They had to endure so much.
How can people dislike this video.... seriously it's beyond me.... What an incredible journey and what an amazing adventurer spirit! I love your videos and you are an amazing inspiration!
You have no idea how proud i am. When you cried during the journey, i literally cried watching it. Your biggest fan/follower on this planet. Loads of Love Eva. Always & forever
This feels like such a sustainable adventure.. which one should try once in one's life.
She is so beautiful at the same time so hardworking. This inspired me to get out my home and start my UA-cam journey..thank you.
I love this video so much. thank you, Eva!

You know that old saying that "crying is just weakness leaving the body" well I think that applies perfectly to that moment when you were pushing your bike up the hill in flipflops @ 20:00 Good for you! Such a cool trip in memory of your awesome grandfather!
I love that saying
Omg i never heard that quote before...it's so beautiful!
Don't stop.
...
Since I started watching your journey in Mongolia now I can't stop watching your adventures and I love your accent🙂
UA-cam recommended this video to me! Such a joy to watch! You’re such an inspiration, your grandfather would be proud
You're really a strong person. And this video really motivates me. Now whenever im about to give up, i will rewatch this video of yours.
That was such a great achievement. Your grandpa is so proud of you! Your sub from the Philippines. 😀
People just get fed up with long journey and they think about their destination cuz they just feel boring to sit down on one place for long time, but Eva you've just completed your task by cycling it's so hard for anyone you're really a champ. 👏👏
Already liked it just before it started 😍

My gosh, your grandfather’s chronicles are such a treasure to have. Keep them very safe and pass them on to generations!
Eva, you made a big mistake: too many kilometers in too few days! Now you never want to ride a bicycle ever again. That's such a pity.
Stay positive: get back on the bicycle ... but this time do only 50 kilometers a day. And choose a less mountainous region.
Have a nice ride!
I was about to write the same.
U right 👍🏻👍🏻
I do not agree with you however I understand yur recommedation to start with easier golas/tartgets.

Wow!
Eva, you are a bada$$!💪
I remember my travel in Poland about a decade ago! (By car) I really like your country!
