    On my awning on the spring end opposite of motor end there is a hole you put a slender screw driver or cotter pin which will stop spring moving awning tube 6:21

    Thank you for this video. I think it's exactly what I need. One question that you might could help with and that is if my motor is dead how do I extend the awning in order to repair it? If there's some way we can briefly chat by phone that might be helpful as well.

    Great video. Thank you. If I ALSO want to replace my fabric, is it easiest to do the fabric after installing the new/rebuilt motor so I’m able to control the frame moving in and out?

    • @jones2journey
      @jones2journey  Рік тому +1

      I haven't had to replace our fabric yet. So to be honest I'm not sure. Just be careful not to let the tension cut loose. I would think a good motor would help keep it in place. But I would recommend doing your research. Thanks for watching.

    Is there a torsion spring on the other side?

    • @jones2journey
      @jones2journey  11 місяців тому +1

      Yes. Make sure you put a pin, allen wrench, or screwdriver in one of the holes on the other side if you have to take off that arm. Otherwise the tension will unwind and it's a big problem.

      I did some research. Here are some videos that will hopefully help. The 1st is not motorized but has good information and descriptions. The other two aren't as well explained in some areas, but do have the info about removing the motor. It is HIGHLY important to do 2 things. 1- pin the non motor side so the spring doesn't unsprung on you. 2- zip tie the arms so they don't extend out. Make sure to mark your motor placement and also where the awning and valance runners were so that you replace in the same groves.

    ?? Are Winnebago chieftain 39t class A motor moves a tad (half inch) in n out, but doesn’t open. We’ve never opened since purchasing. 2003 model weather pro power awning. Is there a safety lock or catch we need to release first?? Tia

    • @jones2journey
      @jones2journey  Рік тому +1

      I have never seen any locks or safety catches on power awnings. It sounds like the motor has not brought the awning all the way in. Leaving some of the awning not rolled up. This would allow it to not roll up tight. This could be a motor issue or a spring issue within the awning roll. I temporary safe guard would be ti zip tie the awning arms to the arm frame attached to the rig. I had to do this once when we had an arm break.

      We attached a drill battery to it and we're able to override the system to get it to run out. Just make sure you have the leads connected right or it will run it in instead of out.

    These things are super dangerous best to use three or four tie wraps to hold those Pistons those things are so strong they can knock you right off the ladder or take a big chunk out of your face if you're near them then the tension spring on the other side should be locked with a pin before removing the motor or at least has somebody hold the roller with a big pair of channel locks and as you're trying to rotate things to line it up it's possible to break the arms off the tensioner or the motor where it slides into the channels these things are super dangerous especially if you're working on them when they're extended you have to wind the tension spring up so tight almost 17 turns on a 20-footer then you have to put the pin in there and then you have to rotate the thing slightly to get the motor lined up to get it all back together so if you're not careful you can get seriously hurt on these things there's not enough people putting out precautions on this stuff warning people about that

      With the power disconnected the 1 zip tie on each end was plenty to hold the arm in place. If you don't feel confident enough to do the project yourself. Please call a tech or take it to a repair shop (if you can get in). But for the DIYer, it's pretty straight forward.
