Azharuddin as I can now see from his clips surely might have been considered an upcoming talent in the 1984-90 period. From when I watched - 1990 - he was my firm favorite by a long way. Very underrated and I would say even discriminated against due to the politics and games played off the field. In this innings he lifted staright back over the bowlers head evey seamer in the then Aus side (and they were early 90s Aus best) for lofted boundaries that fell just short of the ropes. Every seamer McDermott and Hughes and Whitney and Moody. Of the 10 boundaries he hit 4 were such. I was wondering later if just one of them....just one....had gone on to be a six India would have won this match. India lost this match which had huge ramifications both for India and others too. And Azhar even missed out on what would have been the best century of the 1992 WC.
@@K022-g2u Azhar was definitely very talented batsman and and the best fielders in the Indian team at that time (before Robin Singh came in). Scored 100s in first 3 tests in England. He along with Tendulkar was the mainstay of Indian batting lineup during the 90s before the likes of Dravid and Ganguly established themselves. I disagree with the discriminated against part because he captained India most of the 90s barring a 96-97 season. He played 4 WCs I think. Unfortunately his performance in the 96 and 99 WC (both under his captaincy) was very sub par as a batsman. I won’t comment on the match fixing part.
@@utkarsh80587 may be I was unclear as I did not elaborate. I always thought that he either did not have a hand in the fixing at all or that he was not alone if he did. @@K022-g2u I agree that the full truth may never come out. Azhar does have CBI confessions which others do not (atleast in public knowledge). O do wish there was a more standard way to conduct the investigation - as it’s there in England.

Made a decent total against nz but greatbatch played a blinder . Should have been in the semis
Kapil played brilliantly throughout this 1992 world cup. He gave very good all round performance in every match. But Shastri ensured that India Getz defeated in every match
In my opinion Kapil's batting was devoid of context of the game. The runs he made were very handy but sometimes he could have played slow and tried saving his wicket.
@@rohithimself in this match, he didn't have that option. Either he could hit and keep India's scoreboard moving or go back to the pavilion. He was playing at the required strike rate but the rest of the team (Shastri in particular) wasn't.
I was 8 years old and i remember this match very well . Believe me guys those days anything above 7 run rate required in last 5 to 10 overs was an uphill task irrespective of any strong batting line u had, but then India got so close but didn't crossed the line .. Jadeja taking border's catch might be a normal thing for today's generation but that catch in those times wasn't less than a wonder. This match is one of the best childhood memories. Classy 93 by Azharudin, Jadeja's catch, Manjrekar's six and More's last over firework. India was almost there but then 1 run loss was so disappointing.

The last ball faced by Srinath is one of my earliest memories as a kid because it caused so many ups and downs. One of the two unbelievable glitches from a formidable player like Steve Waugh in his entire career is that last ball catch that he dropped of Srinath, even the throw was wide of the wicket keeper Boon. The other one against Pakistan was his full toss to Asif Mujtaba's last ball six that would tie the match. Jadeja's brilliant catch of Border was akin of Aqib Javed's catch of Graham Gooch in the WC 92 final. Great memories associated with this match, I even mentioned it in one of my stories as well, a quote from the story : "Had Raju successfully scored that 3rd run, he from Raju, would have become Maha-Raju"
In '87, we lost to Australia due to our honesty and sportsmanship: one of the boundaries hit by an Australian batsman was mistakenly signalled 4 but replays showed it was a six. Kapil and the entire team agreed with the umpires straightaway but we made it to the semis anyway. In this edition, Shastri, who was notoriously a poor runner between the wickets, played such slow innings that it put pressure on the rest of the line-up. Result: tail-enders had to resort to slogging, in the process losing their wickets. Else, we had won against England and Australia, even against RSA if not for misfields.

To be honest and fair it had more to do with the situation of the Indian team then. Who were in this playing 11? (1) Kapil Dev. Though his prime was well before my time he was undoubtedly India's greatest cricketer ever, greatest allrounder ever, and greatest fast bowler ever, and among the four great allrounders of the 70s/80s, the cruel fact remains that he was pretty much burnt out by then. (Possibly cricket's cleanest ever ball striker. Though the most underrated batsman imo ever talent-wise as he had his best batting records against the strongest attacks of not just the 70s/80s but ever like WI and Aus. How many know eg that he held ODI cricket's fastest ever 50 record tjat off just 22 balls? *22*. AND that on a typical pre 1990 pitch in early 80s (1983 Indian tour of WI in Berbice) vs *Andy Roberts and Michael Holding and Malcolm Marshall and Winston Davis*. When I first started watching from the point I can recall (1990-92) his ODI strike rate was 100! And that dipped to 96 by the time he retired c 1994 when with more batsman-friendly pitches the disappearance of WI and Aus fast bowling conveyor belts and the protective gear and the batsman favoring rules and the fielding restrictions his figures should have improved!) Clearly he stayed on at least two seasons too many by 1992. (2) Srikanth. Always heard from my Elders how he was swashbuckling and faced those probably 100 mph speed demons of the late 70s and the 80s fearlessly and with minimal protective gear and on those kinds of pitches. He was a joy to eatch luve for all Indians who watched 70s and 80s cricket. One of a kind by Indian standards. However Should have retired by 1990 with all due respects. (3) Shastri. Should also have retired by this 1992 tournament. 25 off 67 says it all. 3 out of Playing 11 are burnt out and then you have only one good seamer in the often cruelly underrated Srinath and not even one decent spinner (Prabhakar and Raju were the definition of mediocrity). In other words from 90 to 94 we had only Azharuddin and to some extent Jadeja and Manjrekar who were as of then world class. 1996 after the coming in of Dravid Ganguly and later Laxman and Sehwag, and finally Yuvraj, Tendulkar did not seem so outstanding. In my opinion, India was a tired and exhausted team by the time the '92 world cup came..they were already on a long tour of Australia for the last 3 months prior to the tournament and used almost the same squad for the WC as well..and all this in an era when fitness was not of the highest priority.. Considering this game and another close one against England at Perth followed by the washout of the easy peasy game against then minnows SL which cost us those 2 valuable points, I believe India did reasonably well
Azhar was the best Indian batsman but team against him look match against West Indies where he scored 61 all players slopy fielding stoping catches and also in this matche
This was the last world cup of azharuddin as a batsman,he did not do anything with the bat in world cup 96&99.Azharuddin had a very flop show of batting in world cup 96 and 99.In the world cup of 92 Azharuddin played great innings against Australia, new zealand, west indies and south africa. As a batsman Azharuddin did very well in this world cup but unfortunately he didn't get any support from other players.
Fantastic came that was,,i was just 15 years old at that time & see this match live & feel really bad after India losing this match just by 1 run. What a great time was that.
Probably The Aussies willingly didn’t run Shastri out in the 14th over a-la The Caribbeans against Boycott in 1979 WC final. They realised the more time Shastri stays, the more chance they have winning.
In this match AJAY jadeja caught Alan border megnaviousongly & amlost all accepted that catch as one of the best of 1992 wc, it was miracle catch in those days, but now this is normally expected from all fielders😊👌💐
RAVI SHASHTRI should get 'BHARAT RATNA' for 25 of 67. I wonder what he was thinking during the innings. In ODI if a batsman get stuck for even 20 balls he realises that he need to change gear and do something different. But after wasting 67 balls RAVI SHASTRI walked off in a manner as nothing happened. Brilliant batting by AZHARUDDIN but he did not get enough support. But it was a close contest. Apart from SACHIN TENDULKAR no batsman performed consistently in 1992 WORLD CUP.
I hate to disagree, but in this WC azhar was India's most prolific batsman with 332 runs and 4 half centuries apart from Kapil accelerating the scoring rates as visible from his innings of 35(in just 26 balls) against pak, 42(in just 29 balls) against RSA and 33(in just 16 balls) against NZL. Even in this match(as well as against England) KD scored at an SR of 100 but unfortunately didn't have the time or the partners to take India to the finish line. Sachin was consistent, but not exactly the best India had for this edition, though he should've been tried as an opener surely.
Luck was oscillating here and there on both sides throughout the match. Luck even favoured India on the last ball too (Steve Waugh drop catch), but as a non striker (Raju) should have been much more quicker than striker as 3 runs was definitely possible there , he was a slow athlete which cost India the match. You can see Srinath frustration at the non striker end .....
sab yaha par yaa toh R.Shastri ko gali de rha hai ya fir Azzharuddin ki tarif kr rha.. lekin sanjay manjrekar ki baat koi nhi kar rha... woh bechara bhi toh accha khela tha iss match me..
now a days ..We cannot even imagine like Ravi Shastri like player ..iam 18 years old that time ..we are joking about Shastri the opposite team is safe when he is at crease .. only Mumbai lobby & his caste caused staying in the team..
When Srinath hit that last ball all the Indian people were outside on their terrace with hands up to catch incase it lands on their terrace. They felt it will reach India from Australia. 😂😂😂
If Sachin Opened with Srikanth india would have been much better. Or Manjrekar also was good those days. But opening with shastri and Jadeja and srikanth not being at his best made india lose matches 15 to 20 overrated to get to first 50 runs is criminal.
Incredible game this , cricket👍 Raju the man who walked in at 11 and had to be at the non strikers end with just one ball to go must’ve felt ‘ win or lose’ no pressure on me ‘ and how wrong he was😁😁
No rain interruption means India would've won the match at any cost.. brilliant batting from Azhar and Mangrekar.. no where in this world we find such spectacular grounds both in terms of size and pitches..

That match He ended up with 72 off 38 and Gavaskar made 90 and India beat WI for the first ever time. Then followed the 83 WC and the 85 WSC.
Not taking anything from him. However Indian cricket in many ways was a mess in the early 90s due to goings-on off the field and the poor management and the politics.

Australia, historically, has had strong nerves. Even when they are not at peak...
That's why we loved finishers..like yuvi..Raina.. Dhoni...
Border run out Azhar was a classic. The tower cam replay was superb
Most favourite most beautiful, most nostalgic,, and most better than today s matches ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
what was your age then

In my opinion, India was a tired and exhausted team by the time the '92 world cup came..they were already on a long tour of Australia for the last 3 months prior to the tournament and used almost the same squad for the WC as well..and all this in an era when fitness was not of the highest priority.. Considering this game and another close one against England at Perth followed by the washout of the easy peasy game against then minnows SL which cost us those 2 valuable points, I believe India did reasonably well
Azhar was in spendid form. The only way he could get out was a direct hit runout. Brilliant 93 by the india captain.
Who select shastri for international cricket 🤔
The selectors lol..
2:48 that outstanding catch
Azhar was the best Indian batsman but team against him look match against West Indies where he scored 61 all players slopy fielding stoping catches and also in this matche
what a thriller 👏 story of the 90s for Indian cricket ,so close yet so far
This was the last world cup of azharuddin as a batsman,he did not do anything with the bat in world cup 96&99.Azharuddin had a very flop show of batting in world cup 96 and 99.In the world cup of 92 Azharuddin played great innings against Australia, new zealand, west indies and south africa. As a batsman Azharuddin did very well in this world cup but unfortunately he didn't get any support from other players.
Sir bill lawry was a superb comaintetor in the world.
Ravi shasthri took 67 balls to score 25 runs !!!!!!!
Wahi hamesa match harwata tha
Fantastic came that was,,i was just 15 years old at that time & see this match live & feel really bad after India losing this match just by 1 run.
What a great time was that.
@Baazigar kuch bhi 🤣
Mene yh match dekha huya,8th class me tha, achhe se yad hai mujhe, bahut interested match huya,,
Azharuddin is a no1 batsman always no1 captain azharuddin
Not agree
No : 1 cheat, No: 1 match fixer
Spectacular catch by Ajay Jadeja , still it is benchmark for best catches
Qqqqq11qq1a
Probably The Aussies willingly didn’t run Shastri out in the 14th over a-la The Caribbeans against Boycott in 1979 WC final. They realised the more time Shastri stays, the more chance they have winning.
True...I also feel the same
9:16 what a match for india 13 runs in 6 ball. Great
In this match AJAY jadeja caught Alan border megnaviousongly & amlost all accepted that catch as one of the best of 1992 wc, it was miracle catch in those days, but now this is normally expected from all fielders😊👌💐
Remember this match …. India snatched defeat from jaws of victory… 1 run loss… had we won this , Semi final spot was there
RAVI SHASHTRI should get 'BHARAT RATNA' for 25 of 67.
I remember the match. Runout of the Azhar turns the match.
Raju …😠 kid would have been ran faster than him…
sab yaha par yaa toh R.Shastri ko gali de rha hai ya fir Azzharuddin ki tarif kr rha.. lekin sanjay manjrekar ki baat koi nhi kar rha... woh bechara bhi toh accha khela tha iss match me..
That catch from Jadeja ❤
Wonderful performance by Indian cricket team
Jadeja took a futuristic catch.
Gavaskar and Shastri are the principal and vice principal of Tuk Tuk univerisity
now a days ..We cannot even imagine like Ravi Shastri like player ..iam 18 years old that time ..we are joking about Shastri the opposite team is safe when he is at crease .. only Mumbai lobby & his caste caused staying in the team..
Bachpan yaad aa gya tab Dhekha c match
Manjrekar's best inning of his career
Incredible game this , cricket👍 Raju the man who walked in at 11 and had to be at the non strikers end with just one ball to go must’ve felt ‘ win or lose’ no pressure on me ‘ and how wrong he was😁😁
It is always difficult to win with Ravi Shastri in the team.
Yes u got the main point, he was most sluggish batsmen in Odis😊😢
@@bhalchandrashewale6064 It is not known why he is allowed to continue in cricket administration in various positions.
@@dsharikrishnan4191 me too confused about this
No bro he played a pivotal role in 1983 WC win.....don't unnecessarily critisize.....
Though I also admit he played very badly in 1992 WC
Today shastri never get a chance as a boundry line ballboy. disgusting player.
Greatest match on Earth...did watched half match live....on star sports
I was in 9th class. I felt tears in my eyes when india lost by 1 run only.
No rain interruption means India would've won the match at any cost.. brilliant batting from Azhar and Mangrekar.. no where in this world we find such spectacular grounds both in terms of size and pitches..
AUS played full 50 overs and India given target only 47 overs.aus win due to unfair advantage of revised target
That was the stupid rain rule, many matches went like that and south africa lost semi final due to this rule.
Watching this match today I can feel the heat .
Great match and great fight back. india needed azar or mangreker for at least one over
This was one of Australia's worst WC campaigns, especially if you consider the kind of form they were in between 1987-1991.
At 6:35. All they needed was 44 with 6 wickets in 33 balls. Losing from here was impossible unless there were some other non cricketing reasons.
That was a different era where run a ball was also very difficult.
That was difficult back then
How can shastri a coach after this innings
Shastri was felicated and recommended for BHARATH RATNA award.
😊😊😊
Srinaath great player
Good Match 🇮🇳 ❤️🌹
You couldn't be sitting when you're looking at these nail biting matches. You just gotta be on your feet looking in excitement!
Bharot ne bahut achaa khela
Terrific test match inning by Ravi Shastri in an World Cup ODI game , he was playing on a different multiverse 😂
What a great knocked by Ravi shastri ,67 runs in 25 balls, i feels very bad for ravi shastri 🤔🤔🤔😂😂😂
Run out of Kapil Dev reminded me the run out of MS Dhoni is 2019 world cup
Never knew azharuddin as so dependable
Yes in his prime 85-94 he was of level of kohli, sachin first to score 9300 odi runs..
If he was allowed to appear another 10 matches, he would have been the first to score 10000 runs on ODI. But he was denied of that glory.
@@Chennakeshava-vh5fd he himself was responsible for it
indian team is great
For once Sanjay earned my respect great innings under pressure
1992 our team played well.all are closed matches
03:58 - Ausies love Shastri so much!!!
So the end result was that India lost again to Australia at a world cup.
1992 first time i saw in tb 😢auusie nemesis to india till 2023 wc final 😢
One of the memorable WC match
Heartbroken 😢 .... Watched the full match at the age of 10
Boon was a nightmare for Indian bowlers
Aussies deliberately missed the run out of Shastri 🤣🤣
