  • Synthetic is made from low end quality nylon/filaments making them firmer and relatively inexpensive. Multifilament strings will offer high elasticity and feel from the type of polyurethane that is used to encase the string.

I play with a hybrid setup, with poly in the mains. I have tried both multifil and syn gut in the cross and, for me, the overall benefits of the multifil did not justify the extra cash to be forked out. So now, I'm pretty satisfied with poly on the mains, nylon on the crosses. That the nylon doesn't hold tension that well and it isn't very durable is not that big a problem for me as I don't hit that big and the poly loses tension way faster, so strings that break sooner "force" me to change my strings a little more frequently without breaking the bank at the same time 😉

I like the way you are thinking. Plus that method of stringing a bit more frequently is also helping to make sure that your arm stays healthy too since you aren't keeping a poly that has lost a lot of tension in your racquet for too long.
What is the setup that you are using if you don't mind sharing with me?

@@brodytaylor2020 I have Solinco Confidential (17G) on the mains, and Wilson Synthetic (16G) on the crosses. I have my racket strung at 48lbs (mains) and 50lbs (crosses). Pro Staff RF v13. I also have that same setup on my PureAero (but that racket is customised with weight all over). Just wanted to see the difference 🙂

I like it! Do you like your Pro Staff RF97 V13 better or your Pure Aero with that setup?

@@brodytaylor2020 Haha. They are two very different rackets and thus the effect of the string setups have quite a different impact. On the pure aero, the racket is a way more comfortable (compared with a full bed of poly) but he syn gut frays way quicker. The effect on the RF97 is a little less pronounced.

Gotcha. That makes complete sense about the Pure Aero fraying/breaking the syn gut faster since you are getting a lot more spin out of that racquet compared to the RF97. Thank you for letting me know!

I currently use a full bed of 16 gauge in my Solinco Whiteout 305. I don’t mind not having the extra effects from my strings.

I personally don't mind not having the extra effects either. I personally like to use a full bed of polyester just like you do. Some people though might find that the full poly can be too hard on their arm though and that's why I wanted to cover multifilaments and synthetic guts as an alternative

@@brodytaylor2020 makes sense. I used to use a full bed of poly months ago but got severe wrist pain from it. I still thinking I’m recovering from that pain fro ago.
