I am 44, nearly 45. I love gaming, i really do...... A few years back, i had a moment, where for me personally i looked at all my collection and thought ''why''? Me and my other half, we love a nice home, we work hard, but i made it look like a museum. But i looked around, i had ZX, C64, NES, SNES, Mega Drive, Mega CD, 3DO, Jaguar, CDi, Amiga CD32, PS1,2,3,4, PS4 Pro, All the Xbox consoles, 4 different monitors, 2 older TV's..... And i was genuinely like ''Why am i doing this''? 90% of what i owned, i never played and was never gonna play. Nobody cared what i owned, my other half didn't care what i owned, if i died tomoz, it would just all be sold off for next too nothing. So i made the decision, to sell it and give some away...... Got rid of the lot. I tell ya, it increased my love for gaming more and i felt less stressed. In my games room now, all i have is my Oled C3, Series X, PS5, Switch.... LG Ultragear Monitor, PC and Series S. The only boxed games i own, is games i play, most of my other games are digital. Now if you love gaming, and have a big collection, cool! I am not having a go. But people, please, collect for the right reasons...... Because there are so many of you out there that want games not for love, not for passion or nostalgia..... But for greed. I see these people on UA-cam with 5 copies of the same game, just because it is worth money, or multiple of each console. It is this sort of behaviour, that is making retro gaming and it's cost... spiral out of control. Some poor bugger wants too play an older game on an older console for perhaps the first time, and they have too pay ridiculous amounts, because there are so many scummy collectors out there. I was watching the guy, Retro Ghetto, and he is becoming more and more about the cash value of the games he's collecting, rather than collecting them for love.... He was banging on about a SNES game he owns being over £100, and that he already owned 2 versions of it and wanted to shelve the 3rd copy when he buys it???? Why???? I wouldn't have paid you £10 when the game was new, and now people are paying over a ton for it, and buying multiple copies... It is no better than these scalpers online and it is destroying the hobby for many. These PS1 prices are a perfect example, the games in question were crap then, and twice as crap now..... But people pay huge money for them.... It is ludicrous.
Yeah, agree with this. Also you are right about the Retro Ghetto! For me personally, the bug bear I have with digital is that if you don't like the game then you can only delete it. I got Sonic Superstars for the Switch physically and didn't like it. So I sold it. I lost money but at least I got some back. If I had bought it off the Nintendo e store I would have been stuffed.
I know I keep saying it , but another superb video , and a clever one at that ! I so wished I still had my ps1 and my games collection now . tony hawks 2 was class and the music was brilliant ! 😄
Mate, ❤ this video. I had most of the games in your original collection and it brings back so much nostalgia. Watching videos like this on retro gaming collecting makes me realise how gutted I feel having sold all my PS1 games a few years back. I now play PS1 games via means on emulators but it's really not the same. So many classics that I'd also add titles such as Heart of Darkness, Fear Effect, Syphon Filter 1 & 2, Ridger Racer series, PaRappa The Rapper....so many more...
I love that when collectors like yourself still have their original games or toys from back in the day . Ridge Racer , Out Run another classic 🤩. Nice collection mate :))
I'm like you and I kept all of my old games from when I was younger. I've been a gamer since it was uncool, walking around school with my OG Gameboy and I started to collect games way before most people started. I got my Silent Hill (black label) for a tenner from a long dead retro shop, too many moons ago and seeing it for £125 is pretty nuts. If I went to buy my old collection now, I'd have to take a loan. 😂 I appreciate what CEX is doing because it's a lot less hassle. Yeah, I get it's a bit more expensive. However, it not as much of gamble anymore and if its online. You can still return it. No problem.
PS1 is my favourite, I got a second had one for my 7th birthday. In a shoebox with a few games, wild 9 was one of the games. Heart of darkness was my favourite, if you haven’t played it definitely buy that
I got mine out a local newspaper. Phoned them up, asked what games they had, my mum drove me round to get it. Can't remember what I paid tbh. Will check out heart of darkness :)
I noticed the rising prices when I saw the Adventures of Batman and Robin cartridge only for the Snes had risen from £95 to £110. And coincidentally there was none listed for so long as I checked, now's there at least 3 for a seemingly rare snes game.
Hi, new subscriber love the vids. Can you advise best postage to send games? Is Royal Mail at £2.30ish the cheapest? Also do you use your own printer? I keep paying for yodel labels…use Evri occasionally but worry Evri time! Ha
Until a retro game goes back above its RRP when it was new, it still works out to be a cheaper way to enjoy gaming and collecting for nostalgia and future investment along the way. I really regret not saving one of every copy of PS1 games I used to pick up and flip on ebay back in the day. Used that money to buy the kids Christmas presents tho so cant complain.
Games at cex have gone up undoubted. I started getting all the gamecube big hitters from cex in about 2019. Some of the prices have trebled. I paid 80 for pokemon xd. Which is now 215. Gotcha force was 50 is now 150. One Game I wish I had pulled the trigger on was rule of rose. When I was looking it was 230. Its now 550. !!
Love finding PS1 games in the chazza, if the case is mint I’m picking it up regardless… Spent an age playing Driver, Theme Park & Hospital.. GTA.. Command & Conquer
Hi Ian, great collection. Just a heads up about your Final Fantasy VII cracked case. Those cases are rhe easiest to replace, you can find cheap classical CD compilations in charity shops for pence that are the same kind. I wouldn't replace it though, keep it original.
@MasterofPieces it is! Much easier than replacing the official PS1 cases. Those FF7 double cases don't have the official hologram logo on the front either, which makes it even easier! Just think of all the times you've been in charity shops and could have picked them up!
Could you not put the SH2 sticker on your worse condition copy and then take it back to CEX for a full refund? Probably frowned upon, but I'd be tempted 😅
Epic collection, some great memories with some of those games. I remember being ill and having a week off school, so attempted to get through FF9. Got as far as the third disk, still not completed it to this day. Spawn eternal is the worst game I ever played, what possessed us to buy that one?! If you want a real blast from the past, I've got a bunch of the old demos that we used to have, including the "Demo One" disc with Rollcage. Do you still have your copy of eXtreme games?
Haha either disk 3 or 4 is dodgy... you beat this boss in a tree and then have to change disk but it didn't always work!! Spawn was all down to you!! I'd love to have a look at those demos, defo.... and yes still got extreme games, cracked time crisis and soccer 97. Actually bought rogue squadron the other day... remember you were meant to get pod racer but come back with that instead!!
@@MasterofPieces I remember renting spawn eternal, and I remember buying spawn for the ps2, but i cant remember going back and buying eternal! maybe we just never gave it back after renting! I stand by the decision to get rogue squadron. Best star wars game to date
Nah its be the switch. They'll reminisce about actually having cards with the game on. My boys already play mario kart 4 player with their friends... exactly the same as we did with ours on the older systems.
I don't know why people trade in current gen games (switch and ps5 games) to buy old busted up shit from cex, thinking they got one over on cex. It's pathetic.

Not following you tbh. I can sell silent hill 2 on ebay for more than I bought it from cex. No way after ebay fees and postage would I be able to sell the games I traded in for the same as silent hill 2.
@@MasterofPieces nobody is going to buy that game off you in beatup condition, the box is worn and scuffed, you should test the game it may not even work. Disney's Action Game Featuring Hercules is my favourite ps1 game. Another great video mate 👍

Fascinating ~ Thanks for the perspective!!
Just fancied a bit of a nostalgia trip tbh :)
A nice bonus video, i needed a boost as I’ve been sick as a parrot all weekend with the flu.
