This actually made me feel better because iv had a couple howlers over the boot sale season where iv just wanted to break even so thank you for showing. Good to see seasoned veterans have bad days too
Kind of refreshing to see the rough with the smooth in buying reseller stock. Most uploaders cherry pick making themselves look flawless in their buys, when we all know that is not the case. Always love your videos. One of youtubes reseller heroes rather than villain or evil mastermind. 👍🏻
i do get why though... as a youtubers its important to make the videos flow and tell a story and dropping in a few bad buys can deflect from that. Part of what I try and do is show what a typical experience is like at the bootsales or charity shops and that obvs involves good and bad buys so it fits in quite well. I'm now picturing a Marvel Avengers style reseller lineup.
Attended my first ever boot sale yesterday and was standing next to you when you had that conversation about the Goosebumps, but didn’t realise it was you as I only subscribed a couple of days ago. I didn’t know you were from Wales so going to watch all your videos now 😊
I can unfortunately relate to errors and just this weekend had my first real dud experience. I mainly try to buy video games to either add to the collection or trade for big wants. Hadn’t ever experienced the whole crowding round someone’s boot as they entered and ended up being involved and immediately hated it and felt anxious during the whole thing, whilst I came away with some things from it, I felt rushed to pick stuff and not even checking realised when I got home that I had a game missing from a case. Just a reminder to check over everything before purchasing. Best of luck with future boot sales!
Reminds me of a garage sale which I went to recently where I made one bad purchase after the other. Sometimes it goes that way. Good honest video though and made me feel better about my duff buys!
Its a common occurrence where sellers say something is working then 7 time out of 10 it doesn't work. At least was only a tenner abd should make money back. Specially this year had to remind myself to check contents before I buy from carboot sellers as they usually say its complete but normally its not.
Sorry to see the problems you encountered with this boot sale. So easy to pick things up that have issues that are not noticed at the time. Happens to us all. I had a massive fail yesterday. Locked my car keys into my car at my local boot sale and had to wait two and a half hours for a Locksmith to come out and cost me nearly £150!
I reckon someone organising a stag do would buy that referee kit, might not be a complete loss. Good to see a few fails in a way, makes it relatable. Ace content as always
As you say, you can't beat them every time, but you have made some awesome findings more than you have lost great video again. Keep them videos playing
Today is history mate , tomorrow’s a new day. More new opportunities will appear . It’s happened to us all no one gets it right all the time myself included. All part of the Reselling journey the highs and lows . Take care 🤙🏻
It happens! I had a shocker at a jumble sale yesterday and paid far too much for stuff where they priced stuff up too high! But bought it anyways as was a jumble sale.
Refreshingly honest Ian, as let's be honest many resellers don't discuss the downsides. You're definitely not alone; we've all been there now and again, whether we like to admit it or not! I guess it's just one of the pitfalls of reselling; there are always risks involved, especially with electronics and not knowing the true condition, contrary to what the seller says! Hopefully the weather holds out and you'll be back with a vengeance next weekend. 🤞
its all about taking calcualted risks. They didnt pay off for me today but I only spent £10 on the xbox, £5 on the thomas stuff, £2 on the boots and £5 on the insanity. i'll still do OK off the xbox and minimum get my money back on the thomas and insanity. if they were all complete and working it would be a very different video outcome. I'll always take calculated risks, thats where the rewards come in.
@@MasterofPieces oh I wasn't being negative in any way Ian , I always watch your videos and love the relationship you have with reselling and your adorable boys 👦 💙 this particular video made me lol with your reactions 😆 take care and good luck 👍 in your future sorcing 😘
yeah I felt the weight of the xbox so knew a console was in there, I looked and saw a thomas tank and thought that was enough, and I saw that the dvd case in the insanity. Token checking but not particularly thorough.
great video again buddy, very admirable to show the downs aswell as the ups. One question though, why didn’t you check inside the boxes of this stuff before buying? Even if stuff is going cheap i couldn’t commit to buy without having a quick look first.
its the time it takes to check. When you have lots of resellers in the same area all swarming over the tables I like to buy first and check later. Spending 5 minutes counting pieces of a £3 purchase, Id rather use that 5 minutes to check the other stalls before others. If it were a more expensive transaction then I;d be more careful
I suppose it's that balance of,it's a cheap price so worth a punt, but i can't hang around because i want to hopefully find the good stuff, before somebody else does.
The weight of the box was enough to know that there was a console in there. At £10, even if I opened it and saw the plain xbox 360, I;d still have picked it up regardless. Didnt change the outcome, just would have altered the expectation
I'm sorry but i found this video so funny I'm pleased it happens to you and not just me the trouble is I'm rushing because I want to get to the next stall
I've had bootsale days like that ....the dishonesty is what gets me paid £15 for a Roberts media player with remote guy said it works ....wrong remote can't get one ...tried a replacement remote off eBay had to send it back not compatible 😳😭😭😭I'd just like to hear it 😳
Crazy leaning them ice skates at £2 each pair And all the other stuff with stuff missing why don't you just take a bit longer checking the stuff? That X box would have seen not limited edition soon as you opened the box mate!
Big problem with eBay today with all my listings showing as 20% more. Ebay are aware that it's affected UK users and are supposedly trying to correct it.
@MasterofPieces When you click into the listing it then bumps the price up. It could be worse and prices could be discounted! I'm going to be losing sales because of this though. Fuming
I just can't legislate buying stuff unless I know what I'm buying be in checking it over or looking it up I get we take risks but them risks turn into hoarding other people's crap. It happens though mate we have all done it and I get the time it takes on the day checking things out but we do it in charity shops don't we. Chin up mate
charity shops are a lot less intense and pressurised. You can build a pile and methodically check. In the early stages of the boot sale, if you spend 5 minutes at a stall checking one item you could have missed 3 good items. its the one time of the week where you have a high concentration of resellers all looking around the same stalls. Its all a calculated risk, spend a couple of quid and move on. If I was paying more for the items I'd be checking more thoroughly. Some things you wouldnt be able to see either e.g. are electronics working, and then if not how much effort to fix etc... Also to make things more tricky, no phone signal at that bootsale
Questions Is it yours? Does it work? Is it complete? The following applies even for private sales 😳 Sale of Goods Act 1979 (which still applies here as the Consumer Rights Act 2015 only applies to business-to-consumer transactions) requires that the goods match their description. If you describe goods in any way and that description proves to be false, you will be obliged to give a refund or replacement, or reduce the price to reflect the misdescription or misrepresentation I guess those 50pence bargains don't count, but it's interesting what you should and shouldn't sell.... Most is common sense
Just goes to show you have to be on the ball when sourcing, picked up too many things over the years just because I wasn't in the right headspace, either not researching properly, not inspecting the item, chasing a pick up to warrant the travel, rushing or skipping searching because you think there's another reseller in the shop etc. The mental game is tough some days.
and i suffer with all of this too. I feel the pressure big time at bootsales because I know there are a lot of other resellers there looking for the same type of things. I much prefer the charity shops tbh as I dont feel the pressure as much there
Could probably still Vinted the boots for your couple of quid back mate let’s face it you win some and lose some that’s life 😂 next boot sale will be a mega one
