The comments made my think about a few points and tested how I approach things. I think that's healthy and something worth exploring. The whole purpose of my reselling/youtube is something I often question. It was clear before... I could spend more time with my kids. Now that has changed, why do it... would it be better to up my full time job hours? - I could always take annual/unpaid leave over the school holidays on wednesdays to spend the same time with the kids. Its something I'll continually question but for now just being an enjoyable hobby is enough
Well done Ian very well said, im similar I could go back to full time job being miserable having a boss breathing down my neck etc. I wouldn't change it for the world, im happy, mental health better than ever, Im doing some thing I love & most importantly im present at home for my children & wife. Old job I was always working late & missing all types of things, made me miserable. Life is about being happy & spending time with your loved ones, this job ticks all those boxes for me.
Don't take comments to heart mate, its your life and how you choose to spend it is up to you. I could probably make more money working for someone else but then I already work full time. My business is my business, I don't answer to anyone but myself, I choose the hours and involve spending time with my family. Basically its not a business but a hobby that makes money. A hobby is done in leisure time for pleasure, don't let anyone steal your dream.
Wow what a great response! I loved your positive and negative points and yes you can agree with a few of the points he made but like other comments he’s missing the biggest one that you enjoy it xx
I am also a part time reseller. My two work colleagues do regular weekend overtime and I don't. I earn slightly more than they do. But I have more fun (and get lots of cool stuff ) whereas they have a 6th day of work. I am much less likely to burn out than they are, just due to the variety that reselling offers.
I think this guy with his great viewpoints....is missing the biggest loophole in his arguments...You are doing it part time along with your normal daily job, so unlike other UA-camrs who are full time, you aren't pushing the same type of message. The fact he has tried to work out earnings like you are doing this full time is missing the whole HOBBY part of it. Pretty enjoyable listening to you break down his response, maybe you will get another articulate reply haha.
Im not a subscriber but have followed you for the last year or so....my opinion is simple..your a likeable dude..your kids are sound..and the bond you have on your sourcing trips with your boys are a simple father and son having quality time and a laugh...don't explain to jealous people butting in on how you choose to raise money...some people may have good points but your choosing your lifestyle..enjoying your boys and keep them smiling...
I don't get why people have to try and put people down. It's something you enjoy doing and give you something a little extra each month. Smashing it bud 🤘
I've had a part time job in a supermarket. It's pretty soul crushing and you have to turn up when they're expecting you. The guy masks one or two good points behind a sneering and unkind attitude. Would ignore from this point. Ian, you always improve my day with your videos.
I agree with you, the guy has some great points. Unfortunately he has his numbers wrong and doesn't see the bigger picture. While his daughter is earning £13 an hour at Lidl, that's less time he has with her (something money can't buy). She also is told the hours she can work, where as you can pick it choose them and on top of that you have no boss to answer to. Then finds like that watch push your money over £9 an hour. Some people can't see outside the box for being too narrow minded or institutionalized. It's great that you answered him, you could have just left a comment under his post tho... "Thanks for the comment noted".
Hey Ian, I am sure you already know this, you don't need to explain yourself to anyone - but it does make for a good video ;) I've been watching and learning from you for about 3 years. You've helped me do a better job, along with the usual You Tubers, of getting rid of some of the mountain of hoarded stuff I have in my garage and around my house. One thing your commentor seems to miss is that it's fun, you can't over-estimate the value of something that is fun to do. I for one spend hours trying to fix old electronic stuff for myself and other people. It doesn't make me money, but it is fun - that's the point. Anyway, keep up the good work :)
Very admirable response once again! Another factor is sitting on a chair for 8 hours a day vs getting in the steps, walking around shops and car boots has obvious health benefits to it as well! Plus the memory time, the excitement the kids get 'cos they see how excited you are is something that money can't buy at all. Also that first ad placement was magical 😁 I'm only just starting out on my journey and this video has made me want to keep at it and do more!
Fantastic content from an even better person. Your kids are truly lucky to have you as their dad. I always look forward to your videos when I hop on UA-cam, they're not just entertaining, but also incredibly insightful. I've learned so much, and thanks to your tips, I've even managed to make a nice bit of extra cash in my spare time. Keep it up!
Perfect - your last few moments explains simply why you are doing what you are doing. The money is a bonus really for doing something that you enjoy and spend time with the boys - that's the magic !!
Great video. I love your passion for reselling and youtube. At the end of the day, im sure most people would love to be paid (even if it is less than a lidl worker) to do their hobby and passion. Rather than go into a job they'd probably dislike.
There's one more factor to add to the math. What price happiness? And this guy who is commenting would be better off dissecting some of the other you tube re-sellers who claim to make a full time living from Ebay whilst selling a plush for £6.99. You sir are just about the most honest you tube re-seller out there.
You know what this means now, don't you, Ian? It's time to get that checkout job down at Lidl. When I pop in to do some Christmas food shopping and fumbling around the smoked salmon and caviar aisle, I'll be sure to give you a wave. 😂
In 2001 I bought a house , and it took me 20 years to pay off… I did it every single Sunday going to boot fairs and selling on eBay…. I worked my wotsits off…I am now mortgage free ….work hard and get rewarded….well done mate
Hi there! I am loving selling and reselling. My English verbal artillery has increased so much. The jargon used to describe items is new to me, for example: " This jacket has faux fur trim around the hood" 😅😅😅 Plus, when I drop items I sold, I walk along a beautiful path, this way it allows me to tick my Winter Wellness Walk too.I have been in another business for over 20 years. The returns were minimal, but I carried on 🎉 This new venture which I like it is opening my eyes to other wider possibilities which I wouldn't contemplate should I be working somewhere else. I have been autonomous most of my life. We shall no get distracted by others who don't agree with our choices. Good video 🎉
You summarised it perfectly in just those final 5 seconds. This is a hobby for you (and I), it's a fun thing to do and allows you to spend quality time with your family. The fact it can bring in a bit of additional income is just the cherry on top.
I dont think hes trolling though and means it all, has gone to too much effort. Either way it makes for good content and were contributing to the UA-cam pot.
I don't really class them as a troll. They've provided some valuable insight and some food for thought... not just mindless insults. I'm all for different opinions... it makes it interesting and ask questions about what you do
You have responded in the best way possible, Ian , you've made a great informative video 😊 also you have made memories with your 2 beautiful boys that is priceless 💙 x
Tell the person to do one, I ha e been watching you for 18 months and it has helped me out ALOT buying and selling, I to do it for a hobbie and find it really interesting finding different items that other people don't want anymore. Plus I have a full time job and I really don't fancy working in Lidl or another company just to make some extra cash. I go out to charity shops when I want to rather than be stuck to certain hours and not enjoy the job. Reselling is interesting and gives me a buzz when I find that item that reminds me of my youth rather than stacking shelves. Plus you are still at home and you spend time with your family which really matters and the look on your kids face when he finds that gem is PRICELESS. Keep up the good work and ignore the stupid comments by this very jealous person. ❤
Thanks to you and Connor I tend to look a lot closer at stuff in charity shops. So far I’ve picked up 3 bags of original He Man figures, a G2 megatron and some vintage games. Keep up the content and enjoy your hobby 👍
“Prancing around on UA-cam” 🙈 but he watches your videos Ian 🤷♂️. Great video Ian Me personally it’s none of he’s business if your happy that’s all that matters 😊
Absolutely - love your honesty - as a re-seller myself, I can truly say that being HAPPY with the way I earn is 100% better that earing for the sake of it -- maybe because I am older and I have worked 60/70 hour weeks, and have seen life from both sides. Happiness with my life/family and the fact that I am my own Master (no Pun intended) far out ways being at the beck and call of any corporate paymaster, no matter how much they pay Either we live to WORK or we work to LIVE -- Smile peeps
This person is just a mathematically minded, somewhat jealous troll. Don't waste any more of your time trying to justify your life to someone who is looking for a reaction from you, because right now, they're feeding off your reaction videos. We love what you do... just keep doing your usual stuff and f**k what other people think. Lizzie.
Love watching your videos and remember working 4 days instead of 5 gives you an extra day with your family in the 13 weeks of school holidays they have and no childcare to find either !! Keep prancing 😊
The question should be.. why is he watching you? Let alone taking the time to disect your business model. Maybe he just likes the way you look! 😳 For me reselling isnt just about the profit, I do it because I enjoy it and it fits in with my life.
Hi Ian, As you say its a HOBBY ,but it has a return financially to it If you are lucky or learn about the stuff to look out for. You then stand a chance of finding a couple of really good items that do "make your day" just as finding them in the first place does. Keep on doing what you do .. respect my friend, respect ...
That better off financially comment has really hit a nerve with me. Much like you I do this so I can look after my son full time and honestly getting to spend time with him is so much better than doing a job I would be better off "financially". Great video 👍
Asking the question. Do you want to sell ice cream at £14 p/h working for someone else and doing a job that you don’t necessarily want to do working the hours that are dictated to you. Or Do you continue doing what you enjoy? Building the collection, spending time with family and creating content that many of us enjoy watching. We could all say I could work more or harder or retrain and earn more money but there is that question, do you want to? Do you need to? Do you have to? Seems like a work/life balance and a point of wellness and if it’s a hobby you enjoy, then that is all that matters.
You made the decision to look after the kids rather than pay out for child care. Yes you could get a second job at a supermarket or serving ice cream, at the weekend to make up the difference but where's the fun in that? He's all statistics and analytics but missing the point, you got to spend time with your kids which is totally priceless, no amount of money can beat that. And you got to go on the hunt for potential treasure, enjoying the thrill of walking into a charity shop or a car boot and walking out with a banger!! and you make enough cash to cover your costs. As long as you are happy with it then that's all that counts.
Totally agree - I gave up my Full time Job Long time ago to be a stay at home Dad and bring my kids up (wife has a great job) - less money coming in, but much happier kids and now that they are grown up, I believe they are much happier adults - and now I have he time to do what I want without having to answer to anybody
Its not just about the money. I go thrifting with my sister and we really enjoy each others company looking in the charity shops and having lunch out. We visit all different towns and places. Very often we are joined by my other sister, sons and neices. Yes its all about the memories. A win win all around.
At the end of the day if you enjoy selling bits and get a buzz out of it and are happy then there’s the answer ❤ been watching you from the get go and see how much you like doing it do what you love mate don’t worry about silly people like that just want a reaction out of you
My guess is his daughter wants to start reselling and he's not a happy bunny about that! So he needs to question these guys in a negative way to put a stop to their irresponsible, low paid, lifestyles and all this prancing around on UA-cam 🤣🤣. Well done for your balanced response, keep on doing what makes you happy x
£13 an hour serving ice cream at age 16 is absolute bullshit 😂 if he has the nerve to ask for your revenue, why doesn’t he prove his kids wage? Guaranteed it wouldn’t happen 😅
If somebody is paying a 16 year old in November £13ph to work in Ice Cream Parlour. They need the business lesson. Sounds like James Sinclair commenting 😂
As someone who works in a supermarket and does 1 day a week of reselling. The satisfaction I get from my day off doing ebay (which doesn't ever take up more than a few hours), is far, far more than the horrible stress and mental pain that my job gives me.
Imagine making this extra money in your own time, not restricted to the hours, doing something you enjoy while having fun and sharing your fun with the wider world on UA-cam.
Ian love this video the guy has actually made you money on this content 😂. me and my wife also loves reselling and the buzz of finding a produce that someone else who can enjoy and missed themselves, ok we make a small profit but that’s your own money you are gambling with. we have spoken to you once or twice on our travels Keep up the good work butty.
Great video Ian! Just wanted to throw my 2 cents in as well (I’m sure you won’t mind) 1 major point which I think this chap is missing is the flexibility of reselling. Yes I could go down to Lidl and get a part time job or do a few hours at an ice cream shop BUT that would tie me down for set hours on set days of the week. I have my regular full time job and resell on the side, the last thing I want is another boss man lol reselling provides the freedom to make a few extra quid on the side on my own time schedule 👍🏼
I haven’t listened to his entire comment yet, however what I will say is… You cannot control how people react to you… Sometimes the only thing you CAN control is how YOU react in any given situation… the way you’ve handled this situation is a lesson to all of us… me personally… I think the bloke is a sad W⚓️…🍺👍🏻
Bottom line is that you are sensible and comfortable enough to do something you enjoy which doesn’t cost you or your family £££. It Sid’s your MH as stress relief, excites your hobbyist mind, and we all enjoy your knowledge, humour and honesty. They’ll always be those that challenge your thoughts and actions. He’d earn more not watching your videos, not spending time watching you tube, and minding his own business. You’d make a great politician thats for sure!
It is all about the searching !the joy when you find that gem and list it and it sells ....this guy thats having a pop at you is ALL about the money ....who wants to work in a souless job ...better to do something you enjoy doing 😊 i dont think anyone has the right to diss what anyone else does ....hes a cheeky git ! Please dont let him get to you youre a decent guy just doing what keeps you and yours happy 😊
Ian, your enthusiasm for collecting is obvious and you make great videos. The money is a bonus. He's a troll who has no understanding of the positives you gain from your hobby. Keep doing what you do.
Ian your a good Guy and seeing you go with the boys around the bootsales and charity shops teaching them at the same time and being a good Dad is priceless! Life isn't all about money! It's about happiness, Money is just the currency that someone gives you in exchange for your time ( a job ) generally compensation for doing somthing you don't enjoy! Keep doing what you love mate! And spending quality time with the family and teaching them at the same time. The commentor doesn't seem to have alot going on and probably bitter is and miserable person! If it's the highlight of there life to look at others and tell them what there doing wrong ( in his eyes ) then perhaps they should take a good look at them selfs! Why is he worried about what money you have in your pocket? Anyway love the channel love the vibe and keeping doing what makes you happy mate!
Reselling paid off my debt, Reselling paid for my wedding, reselling built my vintage toy collection, reselling pays my household bills every month. I do it one day a week like you. I earn money for doing something i enjoy. Stop giving this viewer any more of your time. Please
There is nothing wrong with anything you do. Reselling is like a hobby it's something you can do that is fun. Working at lidle isn't. Sometimes it's not all about the money... As long as your not making a loss 😂
In my opinion you do not have to justify your hobby with anyone. Whatever you make from Ebay or youtube is private and nobody else's business. I think there is a huge amount of envy here, if this person doesn't like what you do don't watch your channel. A the end of the day it's a hobby. Keep up the good work, really enjoy your content❤
£9 an hour to do something you enjoy or work at aldi or serve ice cream. I know which id choose. Plus all the stuff youve found for your personal collection. Imagine youd bought all them at full price. I mean ive never seen vintage transformers in Aldi
The guy doesn’t understand it’s a hobby that also makes you money. People that don’t do eBay etc don’t understand. Strange he has gone to such lengths to take the time out and justify his commitment. Personally I think he has nothing better to do. Ian you hit the nail on the head. It’s a hobby that you enjoy and it’s making you feel happy and makes money 😊😊😊😊
Hey, you do a good job and work hard for your family. This guys opinion is not important. Money is important but does make you happy..you gotta do what makes you happy.. keep up what your doing
Sounds very much like a chap I had dealings with on Ebay, he left me a negative feeback and followed up with a ton or messages telling me i was a scammer and to get a proper job 😆. I don't think some folk understand the enjoyment in sourcing and selling! Maybe he's a failed reseller, and envy is getting the better of him. Either way, block and crack on with your hobby and the great content 👌
No disrespect but 98% of Resellers do this for the lifestyle not the monetary gain... I would rather do 40 hours a week at £10 an hour doing something I enjoy at my own pace with nobody telling me what to do, going on holiday when I want, having a day off when I want, spending more time at home... then serving ice cream for £13 an hour for someone else to make money from my hard work... time is more valuable then money. So £9-£10 an hour is just fine and dandy for me, I enjoy my work, I enjoy my life and more importantly I enjoy my freedom.
Its clearly your passion and hobby some people hv expensive hobbies your making money from yours i wouldnt take much notice not everything is about money
Ian don't justify yourself to anyone. Just do what you want. Regardless of earnings ect your content is great I've learnt alot about toys from you and more importantly I'm entertained by you and your content. Keep up the good work buddy.
I work full time also. I resell to make some extra cash so i dont have to do any overtime at work. I enjoy buyung and selling. Im not so sure id enjoy working at lidl as much foe the same amount of cash
From his comments he clearly dislikes your videos, yet puts all this effort into watching and commenting 🤣. He seems to miss the fact that reselling is far more enjoyable than working in Lidl. What a miserable bloke
Don’t add gas to the fire. The guy making the comments….Why bother analysing your content on here and eBay on what you do, over-analyzing can be associated with poor mental health. Just keep doing what you do. You’re providing an education to people like myself.
From someone that actually works for a particluar supermarket full time and has a reselling business, trust me, time at home with the family outweighs that need to be there earning the extra. The reselling covers the extra costs and im looking to drop back accordingly on contract. You work full time too, so why rise to his comment? You do your bit and enjoy this as a side line whilst supporting your family. Stuff his thoughts pal, your better than that.
I think its always good to assess what you're doing and why. The purpose of my reselling was to spend more time with the kids and make a bit of money at the same time. Now the biggest part of why I do it has been removed... so why keep doing it. The comments although derogatory resonated with what I'm currently thinking so I thought id share
@MasterofPieces completely understandable. Just seems people who are all about the financial gain (as you stated in the video) can drive down your enthusiasm for what your doing purely because they can't wrap their heads around why you do it. You've set out and branded yourself on UA-cam which took commitment and allowed you to share so much knowledge with the community that's it's inspired others who are less well off. To me, he'll never understand the good that comes out of that whilst he's working his extra day. You're a great guy doing your own thing, so don't let people dull that enthusiasm 👍
And on the back of this guys comments you have monetised via a youtube vid , well done you owe him an Ice cream ! You really can't put a price on something you love and are passionate about and making a few quid at the same time. There is another benefit, videos like your an others have inspired me and others no doubt to start my own selling story in something I'm really passionate about and have seen my sales grow month on month and am now clearing £1200 a month Gross , I don't need to do it as semi retired but I get great satisfaction from it. I won't be doing youtube as not my thing.
What does it matter if you only do something to prance about on UA-cam? If people watch it, and you make a bit of money from it, so what? I make about £100 a month selling stuff. It probably takes me 8-10 hours a month with another10 hours sourcing. But it is part of a hobby - buying collections, keeping the stuff I want, and selling the stuff I don't want. If I didn't sell the stuff I didn't want, it would be clutter. I don't need the money either. But it is fun to sell it to other collectors, and reduces the clutter I'd otherwise have. Sometimes I will buy something I don't want to sell, partly because it is priced low and partly for the fun of selling it.

Love how you made his comment add to your YT Ad Rev. 💪🏼
2 hours work making this video... £70 ad revenue. £35 per hour
Don't forget to deduct the couple of pence it cost for the electricity and a few mbs of upload data you cheeky monkey
Exactly what I said
Yeah, he'll be getting sponsorship and membership next.

Wow what a great response! I loved your positive and negative points and yes you can agree with a few of the points he made but like other comments he’s missing the biggest one that you enjoy it xx

One of the nicest resellers around you are ian , you don't have to justify yourself to anyone
Mate you hit nail on the head , can't buy memories, hats off to jelly cat guy
How could anyone be horrible to you! Seem such a nice genuine guy
He killed a dog with his bare hands.

Comparing reselling cool stuff and working in a supermarket is hilarious; absolute worlds apart. That commenter has clearly never worked in retail...
I agree with you, the guy has some great points.

Guarantee that guy is stuck in a job he hates. You didn't owe him an explanation but you nailed it. You, like many other resellers, do it for the love
I love your prancing! More prancing please.
haha we all need a bit more prancing!
Do what makes you happy! Time with your kids is priceless. Who cares about what other people say
Great video. Loved it. Some real home truths but at the end of day where’s the fun in a regular job! ❤keep up the videos and glad I can support! M
love your content - genuienly. A truly honest youtube reseller who clearly has a good heart
What reseller claims to make a full time living from a plush at 6.99?
Yes!!!! Love the transformer story-it will be part of family stories for years to come.
You know what this means now, don't you, Ian? It's time to get that checkout job down at Lidl. When I pop in to do some Christmas food shopping and fumbling around the smoked salmon and caviar aisle, I'll be sure to give you a wave. 😂
And he’ll be able to supplement his Lidl wage by flipping Lidl trainers. Boom! Living the dream.
@spanielsan71 exactly. What is there not to like?!
In 2001 I bought a house , and it took me 20 years to pay off… I did it every single Sunday going to boot fairs and selling on eBay…. I worked my wotsits off…I am now mortgage free ….work hard and get rewarded….well done mate

Trolls are meant to be ignored. Stop feeding it!
I dont think hes trolling though and means it all, has gone to too much effort. Either way it makes for good content and were contributing to the UA-cam pot.
I don't really class them as a troll. They've provided some valuable insight and some food for thought... not just mindless insults. I'm all for different opinions... it makes it interesting and ask questions about what you do
Totally agree!
You have responded in the best way possible, Ian , you've made a great informative video 😊 also you have made memories with your 2 beautiful boys that is priceless 💙 x
Work life balance. You have made your hobby a business that is a good thing
You keep doing what you love mate. Your videos are great. You go in depth on things which teaches people like me and others.
Happiness with my life/family and the fact that I am my own Master (no Pun intended) far out ways being at the beck and call of any corporate paymaster, no matter how much they pay
Either we live to WORK or we work to LIVE -- Smile peeps
This person is just a mathematically minded, somewhat jealous troll. Don't waste any more of your time trying to justify your life to someone who is looking for a reaction from you, because right now, they're feeding off your reaction videos.
We love what you do... just keep doing your usual stuff and f**k what other people think. Lizzie.
Its your hobby and its a really great one. Keep up the good work and forget about the nonsense that people type! All the very best!
For me reselling isnt just about the profit, I do it because I enjoy it and it fits in with my life.
Well said ,special moments with your children while doing something u love .what could be better
Or
Do you continue doing what you enjoy? Building the collection, spending time with family and creating content that many of us enjoy watching.
We could all say I could work more or harder or retrain and earn more money but there is that question, do you want to? Do you need to? Do you have to?
Seems like a work/life balance and a point of wellness and if it’s a hobby you enjoy, then that is all that matters.
I think he fancies you mate! 😍
You absolutely nailed it we all know reselling is hard work but it can also be great fun😊
You love the Gold Rush, digging for those shiny treasures is what gets you out out of bed. Great video dude!👍👍
Seems like winning all round! 👍🏼
No chance are they paying £13 to serve Ice cream
Well said mate, it’s not just about the money….
I sell on eBay mainly household items, as I buy an item I sell stuff to make room. It helps when my income is a state pension
Please
Memories made mate, worth more than any ebay sales❤
I mean ive never seen vintage transformers in Aldi
great video - it aint just about money
well at least he watches regularly, boosting your youtube income :)
It's someone with way too much time on his hands. If you are getting paid to do something you love, you are winning at life!
Hey, you do a good job and work hard for your family. This guys opinion is not important. Money is important but does make you happy..you gotta do what makes you happy.. keep up what your doing
Find a job you like and you'll never work a day in your life. Tell him to mind his own beeswax!
Its clearly your passion and hobby some people hv expensive hobbies your making money from yours i wouldnt take much notice not everything is about money
if you love doing it and you make money its win win love your videos mate
Ian don't justify yourself to anyone. Just do what you want. Regardless of earnings ect your content is great I've learnt alot about toys from you and more importantly I'm entertained by you and your content. Keep up the good work buddy.
You seem a decent chap. Ignore the Juan Kerr.
I work full time also. I resell to make some extra cash so i dont have to do any overtime at work. I enjoy buyung and selling. Im not so sure id enjoy working at lidl as much foe the same amount of cash
Well said. Great video.
Brilliant video. Well said!
From his comments he clearly dislikes your videos, yet puts all this effort into watching and commenting 🤣. He seems to miss the fact that reselling is far more enjoyable than working in Lidl. What a miserable bloke
I've had some vile messages from ppl on Ebay. Lots of strange people about
Don’t add gas to the fire.
More like 'if you can get a job at Lidl'. I've had 3 friends who tried and none of them got an interview.
Well said dude
Love watching you absolute legend ❤
He sounds like a bellend Ian,I enjoy your videos and find it interesting, keep it up mate
This person needs to concentrate on whatever they are doing, what a sad individual. Love the content mate.
