How to grow Dwarf Mulberry tree from hardwood cutting. Easy instructions on how to propagate this beautiful compact variety of delicious black Mulberry. eatyourgarden
Thank you for the video. I purchased 10 dwarf everbearing mulberry trees earlier in the year. They were about 18 inches tall when purchased. They’re now 6-7 feet tall. They grow so fast that I think I am going to use them for hedges along my fence line.. maybe propagate 50-100 or so. Thank you for the great instructive video. These trees take off here in Texas.
Hoping you're still answering questions on this one... @ 7:40, why do you wait a week or two to remove the fruit? I'd think you would want to redirect energy to the roots asap.
Very informative video, thanks. I didn't know what a Dwarf Mulberry was until this morning, or that I would want to grow them and their cuttings. Thanks for the project! :)
Thanks very much. They are a much better plant IMO than the regular mulberry tree. These little dwarfs still produce full size black fruit and loads of it after about 2 years from cutting. And super tasty. Cheers mate and good luck.
Thanks for this video. Great help. My neighbor just let me know I can take cuttings off his tree. I've been waiting to find out how to grow from cutting. Great timing.
Squawks and Barks If you ever have one extra cutting - i would love to try to grow one of these dwarf mulberry trees? I will pay, or cover shipping, etc. Just can seem to find anywhere to buy them in Texas near where I live. :(
that's awesome.. I love my dwarf Mulberry tree.. this year I ate my first berries from it and they were amazing .. such a beautiful flavour.. so I want lots.. thank you 👍
Thanks for the video. Question from a greenhorn. If they fruit in spring on last year branches and you prune when dormant aren't you cutting off fruiting buds? Have you ever tried pruning after they fruit say in late summer? That way you can shape the tree and still have maybe a foot of new growth before winter and maybe even more laterals would grow? Thanks again.
Great video! I live on the east coast in the US jets south of Washington DC. It’s hot and humid here now in the 80’s and 90’s. I have a very healthy dwarf mulberry in a pot. It’s the second year and I haven’t gotten fruit yet but hopefully soon. When should I prune? And what time of year can I take cuttings to propagate?
in order to fruit, fertilize it generously with Orchid Bloom Booster That will cause flower to grow and bloom and they turn into your fruit. i got mine to fruit within weeks after almost killing it because the salesman lied and told me it was wind tolerant which it is not. so that particular balcony was too windy for it. the bloom booster makes my cherry tree burst with pink flowers and then tons of cherries.
cool video dude!! you should sharpen your cutters hahaahahh!! anyway when we make clones like that here in the U.S.A. with the natural growing mulberry trees they will fruit that next year the second year at the latest, how do your cuttings produce? these trees are like weeds here, you cant kill them once they root!! hell we tried and tried with this 16 inch dia mul and it just sent out more limbs like it did not even know it was chopped down!! ours get like 35 to 50 feet tall, seen a few 75 feet tall, but the lighting really like them tall ones. So would you recommend taking off leaves as well as new fruit to divert energies back down to the rot development? I may try this method with new fruiting and leaf producing black mission dig cuttings from my tree that I put in a bucket of water. Will these grow in Southern California? Also would these grow well in a 7 gallon or 15 gallon pot without getting root bound? Thank you for your help !
No just pick out the young fruit as they start growing. Im in Australia so got no idea if they will grow in SO Cal. But like i say, you'll never know if you dont give it a go. You can easily grow these in containers, and keep them around 4 or 5 foot. cheers
Hi, thanks for the info. I’ve just done this to my 2y/o dwarf in Brisbane. How long before I can replant the cuttings that I’ve taken. Thanks again, really love your channel.
I stick them in soil pretty much straight away. They wont do much until it starts warming up again though. Very easy plant to grow from cuttings. Thankyou very much for your kind words. Cheers :)
I have a dwarf mulberry that is in its first year of production. The fruit looks like it's fruit size is going to be tiny; about the size of my pinky fingernail, and I have small fingers. Will the fruit get larger as the tree grows? I'm thinking it might be worth it to grow a larger type mulberry tree.
I've noticed that when I cut branches from my Mulberry trees that they will "bleed" a bit of Sap around the cut area, do you not apply a bit of dressing to the cut area? Personally I do this with Elmer's Wood Glue. This is the same stuff I apply to my Fig and Persimmon trees after I cut them.I have 11 acres I'm trying to incorperate with All the Fruit trees I can. I'm Diabetic and 78 years young and I Like Fruit in my diet. Great video Guy Cheers to you. ;-)
No ive never had an issue. Angled cuts work fine for me. Also i guess it would depend on the type of climate you live in too. Ive only got 5 acres, not even a tenth of the way yet. cheers and thanks form your comment. :)
@@vtbn53 Yeah natural flavors, artificial flavorings, mono and diglicerides, trisodium aluminum is all fine and dandy. But watch out for that fruit! That's where the REAL unhealthy food is. Not. Eat real food and don't ever listen to the world.
Thank you. My Dwarfs are about 3 years old. No sign of fruit. They are about 12 foot tall on the tallest shoots. Thanks to your video I have the courage to cut them back without worrying all winter about causing them not to fruit next year.
If you have a extra cutting you want to get rid of - I would love to try to grow one of these. Keep me posted please - thanks. My email is ck40731@outlook.com

can you grow a whole normal big tree from the seed from a dwarf Dwarf Mulberry tree seed ??
Thanks!! I will wait..... sooner better.... l
Great video. My question is should this be done early spring before they leaf or does it matter at all?
Cheers, i usually take cuttings when they drop their leaves. You can also take softwood cuttings from the new growth
When should this be done?
Would spring be best?
How long does it take for a newly planted bark to bear fruits?

eatyourgarden yes I am constantly learning. I love mulberries and I am excited to give them a go here in SO Cal
Thanking you for your video! Can I cut the new branch of the tree to plant it?
Yes, But sometimes takes longer, makes the pieces shorter too as its active softwood growth
Thanks, man, I will try your way. I have tried two new branches and still waiting for their growth.
where did you buy your dwarf mulberry trees from ?
I want to buy one of your xD

no, dwarfs have full size fruit, they are very hungry when they start fruiting, give it something high in potassium, eg. liquid potash or similar
eatyourgarden, thank you. So it's safe to fertilize this mulberry tree while they are in the middle of fruiting?
Yes certainly, it will love you for it
i love to eat mulberries when I was very young, can you sale me a mulberry tree ? Thank you
Probably in about a month or so :)

Technically you already had made a cut below a bud(far left), it just wasn’t an angled cut
Would you give me some cuttings to plant here in my country Philippines.
No, you didnt say please

That's the worst thing you can do - too much sugar in most fruit - although berries are generally OK.

U sell cuttings?
Will they tolerate cold weather such as zone 4😊? MN
They will drop leaves as it becomes cooler, theyre pretty tough
How many days before cuttings have roots
Your talking weeks, not days. Also depends on the climate you growing in. Roots will normally follow bud swelling
Just cut some branches and soak up with water for a week and then plant it...
The problem with the dwarf variety is that it's not that sweet and not as tasting as the large mulberries and the fruits are much smaller also.
What should i do when i dont want it produce froottt.. Just said it now damnit!!
