Greenworks 60V String Trimmer Review | Quick Wind Head and Good Balance

  • One of the highlights of the Greenworks Pro 60V trimmer (model ST60L210) is the 16-inch cutting swath. Almost all of the string trimmers that we looked at in our recent Best Battery-Powered Weedeater Roundup, Pro models and DIY models alike, cut with a 15-inch diameter or less. Greenworks also uses a new Load N’ Go trimmer head, so restringing it and ratcheting the line back to a usable length takes just seconds.

I've owned this trimmer for a while now and had no issues with it. However, I did not realize it had two speeds until I watched your video. Nice to know. Thanks!

UPDATE~Found the perfect line for this trimmer! It transforms this trimmer from a tool I can't use to one that I want to use :)
Dewalt line .080 x 225ft. part #DW01DT802 (found at Home Depot). This smooth line (not twisted or multi-angle) makes loading a breeze and the bump advance now works perfect.
Just get this line & thank me later!

Thanks so much, you just saved my sanity with this video, looking at the spool it makes no sense at all. Follow these steps and don’t ask questions. That will get it done, it’s a two minute operation if you do.

Thanks Kenny! After purchasing the 80v trimmer and leaf blower combo at Costco last year. I had misplaced the directions and really found it difficult to wind the trimmer. Your video is the best and a saved me that headache moving forward! Quick and easy! I highly recommend this trimmer as well as the leaf blower!

His technique absolutely won't work, it should, but it doest. You have to take it apart and wind it on. I literally returned it after the 5th time I did this. Costco is great on returns, they also said they quit carrying it because of how many returns about the string loading. About 50% of people returned the Greenworks weed eater, crazy.

@todayilearnedsomething8105 I'm sorry to hear this trimmer didn't work out for you. I was very frustrated and ready to return the trimmer myself until I followed Kenny's directions step-by-step, very important. Line up the arrows, thread the line, wind the line. I've had this trimmer for a few years now, and winding the line is no longer an issue. I did notice that Greenworks winding head may have been updated in the past year or so. Hopefully it's more user-friendly.

I've have the Greenworks Pro ST60L02 and the bumper head is so chewed up you cannot see where the arrows are. And cannot find REPLACEMENT PARTS for the bumper head & cap. Any suggestions.....Anyone??

Do you have to restring/rethread like that as you trim to move the string along (during and throughout EVERY trim)? Or do you do that ONLY when you run out of string completely and need to replace the entire spool?
Also, must you remove that black cover plate to do this, or were you just removing it for demonstration purposes via closeup?
I have only used a trimmer once and fought with it until I gave up. I need help. My lawn guy cracked and put holes in my new siding and has pulverized 2 shrubs after only 2 mows. I now need to order new siding which will not match because it'll come from a different lot. Please help. I hope you are still answering comments and that this posts.

If you have the Greenworks Pro 60V trimmer (model ST60L02) which is very similar to the model shown in video. You only have to take the spool head apart if there's a jam or problem of some sort. He only took it apart to get the line out so he could demonstrate how you LOAD it through the outside holes, after Lining Up Arrows. Once it is loaded with line, to advance more line out longer, you BUMP it on the ground (I recommend doing this on dirt/grass, not on cement). Good luck!

80V version with 4Ah battery on sale at Costco was cheaper. Essentially you buy the trimmer, they throw in a free 4Ah battery.

I'm looking to replace mine. It seems like the bump head is old technology that manufacturers are getting away from. Thoughts?

You won't be sorry..no more gas mixing or hard to pull cranking...just charge the battery & go !! I also purchased an extra battery (as I have a very large area to "trim"..and I also went up to the longer time higher volt. battery (80V)..(also purchased the Greenworks, chainsaw..18"; and the tiller..the same size battery works on all 3..Would not have been able to do this (financially) , but thanks to Tractor Supply and a Special Financing..I will have them all paid for by August. I just wish mine had the "tap & go" head like the one shown as it looks alot simpler to reload the line...the one I have doesn't look like that....

I have this model but my head is just a simple bump feed. It doesn't have the load feature you were showing. Is that available for purchase from Greenworks
