My dynamic indicators were £18. They work perfectly and are very bright. I was staggered when you said yours were £180 !! Mine look identical to yours.
I don't think that's all that likely considering how much manufacturing there is in China. The big issue is the test and certification process, without that I'm afraid any lighting product is not legal for use in the EU.
I shelled out $1100 for the Osram headlights because they are amazing and nothing comes close BUT $250 for mirror indicators is a bit much, so I went with a $20 from China. We'll see if it lasts a few years.
Pro-tip. You can magnetize your torx wrench to keep the screws from falling. I worked on helicopters for a few years and did this to all my tools. Lots of books and crannies where screws can fall into.
I was going to say the same but can't take someone else's glory. Just keep the magnet on the metal screw/bolt removal tool and the screw/bolt should stay attached. Helps on re-assembly as well.
I like Osram, the LEDriving SL retrofit bulbs are excellent. You’d have to be nuts to pay so much for a set of these though, you could buy 5-6 sets of Chinese dynamic indicators from the usual online sellers for the same price, fit and finish. And, as much as I like a quality product from an established brand, the Chinese set I currently have fitted work perfectly and in this case it’s hard for Osram to justify their pricing *for a pair of indicators* - £150+ vs £30.
For me it's a case of do it the proper way or not at all. By proper I mean a product that's guaranteed for use in the EU with all the correct paperwork. Automotive lighting is highly regulated and the certification process is bound to be expensive but without it could your insurer reject a claim? Not really worth the risk for me anyway. Likewise with warranty, my cars got nearly 2 years left so I wouldn't want to jeopardise that. Plus I wouldn't want to have do the job more than once. Not sure the mirror clips are happy going on and off a number of times and if you need to replace the mirror caps because without good clips they are useless the Chinese ones won't seem cheap any longer. You pays your money and takes your choice but I couldn't make a video endorsing the installation of items that are not approved for use in Europe.
@@volkswizard I largely agree with the sentiment and I’ll buy genuine VW parts in preference to cheap (and demonstrably inferior) alternatives, but I don’t see an issue with what is essentially a cosmetic component that is physically and functionally identical in a non-critical application - and given mine are e-marked the only factor left to consider is price.
