If this is about euro mirror. Give them 2 weeks. You will get used to them. They are great and a must on a GTI. Helps in side blind spot. I would not want USA mirror again.
keep them! you're not supposed to focus on the outer triangle - just the inner part the outer triangle 'aspheric' portion is solely so you don't have a blindspot anymore. I've found that they work perfectly !
You DO NOT need to remove the mirrors to do this. As soon as you put the mirror all the way facing down, you will be able to access the two clips from behind the mirror. First clip off the bigger one closer to the car, then mess around with the smaller one until it comes off. Removing the mirror is way more risky and is not needed by any means. I just completed this install in less than 10 minutes without removing the mirrors.
In my experience, if you order the mirror glass just in case you break it, it will not break.... BUT if you don't order it, you'll break it and it'll be on back order...
Use a PDR suction cup in the center of the mirror. Then pull on it while you pry the side of the mirror. It spreads the pressure across the mirror minimizing the possibility of cracking the glass
I've also found when working on older plastic parts and their clips that to help release them, spray some soapy water or detail spray on the clips. This really helps by acting as a lubricant and simultaneously loosens and removes the small dirt particles that tend to hold the clips in place.
On my 2019 SEAT Ibiza I take out the mirror covers without removing the mirror itself. It’s the same on all VAG. The trick is to put all the fingers on that small step and then pull towards you. The first time it’s a bit tricky, but once you got it, it’s a 30 second job!
Joining my local VW Owners Club I've meet a few other owners of a B5 and B5.5 wagon that where surprised my 04' Passat 1.8T GL Wagon had side mirror turn signal lights. I plan on replacing the single light with a strip of white and strip of amber so I have amber turn lights and white when I open the door. Helps when traffic is coming and they see the door easier. May even go the route where it has the light go on one at a time starting with the light closest to the car running away. As kind of a directional piece 2 get others to understand which way I'm going.
