Lesson: Many shooters underestimate the dangerous "range" of their shotguns. But this demo. might prompt a discussion of choke, how it works, how it really works, how to determine the choking of one's guns and how to really determine it. Then there are issues of why we "need" it and why most of us need much less of it.
I wish some grounds had the facility to pattern our guns. Almost nobody does this which is nuts..
@@MajorJimPlays Clearly, I agree. Many shooters would be astounded at the patterns actually thrown by their guns, centers of impact, effects of shot protectors, etc. For upland "walk-up" shooting over dogs, most shots are taken at perhaps 15-25 yds. not the 40 yds. at which patterning is usually done. I would suggest patterning at 30 yds. for most people.

@@MrTimstaaa I should have modified my "over dogs" statement. Spaniels are probably much more frequently used in Britain than in the U.S. where pointing breeds are very often seen and shots are at closer ranges.
@@wholeNwon to be honest, a lot of native game species like Sharptail, and some invasive open birds like huns and pheasants, an fet up weeeeeell away. I run a flusher and had pheasants up at 50; my one wild bird killed this year was near 70 yards by the time I hit him (3 pellets in him at that distance, #4, lab was on him like a flash). To be honest especially field loads smack quite well

As much as I enjoy Sasha’s work, I must point out the error that he made in the thumbnail. I believe that instead of an arrow pointing to Ed, it was supposed to be the start of a speech bubble, showing Ed complimenting Jonny’s flawless shooting. Obviously Sasha never got around to finishing the graphic.

Since watching the first video at grimsthorp with johnny and edd i wanted to go see the ground and have some lessons as i haven't been shooting long about a year.
Im not at edds level for teaching but my other half bought me a lesson with steve who is an outstanding instructor and he is really good at what he does i cant recommend him enough for the beginner or someone struggling with certain targets or technique ect i wouldn't say im a professional by no means but hes helped me alot thanks again Steve and will book up with you again soon.
The ground and clubhouse and of course the team at grimsthorp are fantastic and also to Johhny and team for the videos really enjoy them mate.

I remember shooting an 80yard crosser off a tower when I went for some lessons once, it was unbelievable the lead you needed, the instructor described it as “a farm gate’s worth” and the delay- each time I’d literally taken the gun out of my shoulder and was already lowering it before it broke🤣 you’d think you missed it and it’d go “poof” away in the distance, such fun.

Wouldn't want to fire too many of those goose cartridges, they look a little tasty.
John, how is this possible when you look at your shotgun at 100 yards videos for example. How can they get the pattern to hit a small clay target at those distances ?
There is a element of bad luck at those ranges that could occur, to be bang on abs have it slip through the pattern…

How far can you shoot with a 20g?
What you need is some custom #10 TSS 36 gram loads. Its going to be expensive but I'd say it will give him the best chance.

It just takes a gun that fits and lots of constant practice. I use to call it practice perfect to gain ability and mind control . You eyes will do all the work your body doing what the practice has produced.

Anyone who says this is fake is a fool. Even I hit a 70 yard clay first time with a 410 using Eley Fourlong cartridges. The delay was massive. I missed the next 4 but anyway....

Of course, failure to break clays at extreme ranges doesn't mean that expert shots like you "missed". You could probably have driven a Morris Minor through gaps in the pattern. Of course, you could verify my supposition by repeating the exercise with a (borrowed?) 8 bore. Fun stuff.
...or set up a long-range pattern board. That would be fun.

It's not that hard. I've lazar ranged 110 Meters to a 90 degree throw & shot clays with #6 shot. It took me 5 shots to get on target. I then proceeded to shoot 4 in a row, missed 2, 3 in a row, missed 1, 4 in a row, missed 2, then finally another 3 smashed in the air. At that distance it's pretty hit & miss & nothing which should be scored or adored.
I did this about 12 years ago with 3 witnesses who said it couldn't be done. Well I did it, but it's not really a measure of much.

George digweed did 150 yards shot and hit all of his targets from the first time while increasing the distance 10 yards each time
It was an amazing feat, but a 130 yard looper that most people couldn’t hit from 50 is still unbelievably impressive
NO HE DIDNT. He missed a couple and it wasn't a crosser either i believe it was a springing teal. Still phenomenal shooting though .

Filming clays is always tricky, they always look tiny. I will need to see one in real life to appreciate how far that was.

The thumbnail is wrong, it says "Unbelievable skill", I'm sorry but modern UA-cam etiquette requires you to use the phrase "Insane skill". Everything on UA-cam is now "insane".
Even on film I seriously doubt what is supposed to be happening. I've never seen a shotgun which will even chip much less break a clay over about seventy yards. None I've owned would even chip one over fifty yards away as the gun and ammo combination would not hold a pattern tight enough to do that regardless of choke. This is clever but not beleivable. No shotgun will break a clay target at 100 yards much less 110. Come on guys!!

@@tgsoutdoors I used to hang the clays up on the backstop at 60 yards and none of my guns would even chip one at that range. The pattern was ten feet in diameter at that distance!! To hit one at that range your shot string would have to be 50 feet long--or longer to say nothing of the vertical component.
I suggest you try some Hull Pro Ammo and a tighter choke. 60 yards with good ammo and a half choke should smash that clay every time
That ammo is not available here nor have I seen it anywhere before this video. I have a LOT of shooting experience to include sporting clays, skeet, trap, high power rifle, IPSC, PPC, Bullseye, and more. My skeet level was AA with a .410. One of my Glocks has over 200,000 rounds through it (conservative). But i've yet to see any shotgun which would even chip a clay at much over 60 yards--not even my full choke Remington 1100. The patterns were over 10--12 feet in diameter at those ranges.
70 yards is doable 10/10 no problem with a 1oz shell 7.5 shot size. A stationary clay is much harder to break than a spinning one as the centrifugal force aids the break massively.
Just done some shot cam footage at 80 yards with Hull, can see the size of the lead and broke 4 ex 4 on film with steel shot.
All very doable, once you get around 90 yards all consistency drops off, 60-70 no drama.

I wouldn’t say that Tim I have seen a few in my time that have shot for best part of their lives an still couldn’t hit a barn; if they stood inside it . Ed Solomon is at the top of the tree they don’t get a lot better in my opinion .you must be a good shot yourself to think that way all the best
