So, as someone who has put a good part of 3000 hours into the multiplayer, I can say that you got the character descriptions right. Now as for the gameplay itself. It is simple, but very addictive, as you feel a sense of progress all the time. You notice that you get ever so slightly stronger for every character promotion done, every new weapon, and so on. You can tell that this game came out before the controversy of microtransactions became a thing, since your ultimate goal is to gain enough gold to unlock the chests in the store, or have friends who can carry you through harder castle (dragon) runs, most notably on Perilous difficulty or above. Items are unlocked by random, and there is no certainty that you get what you want. Eventually, after a long time, you will get all items unlocked, and the game gets a little easier. For anyone wishing to get into the gist of playing the multiplayer, there are a few things to remember. *Characters and promotions:* 1. Do not unlock characters by crafting them, as this is an utter waste of resources. You will actually unlock characters faster by playing, and getting the treasure chests in the levels themselves. However, you will only unlock basic and intermediate (gray and blue rarity) armors for the characters from chests. Advanced (Purple rarity) armor must be made by crafting. By getting 1 million XP in a certain class of characters (warrior, rogue and mage respectively), you will unlock Drakescale armors for that character class. These armors has the highest armor rating, but the trade-off is that they don't provide additional damage resistance. 2. Spend time playing each character all the way up to level 20 (max) at least once, and give their abilities a try. Advanced players has nailed down the best builds for each character. 3. Do not wait with promoting your characters. Once you hit level 20, hit the promote button. 4. A good rule of thumb is to focus on one particular stat first, and get it up to around 50 points, before doing the next. Now this is purely arbitrary, and you don't have to take my word for it. Promoting a warrior grants +1 to Constitution, which gives the player a permanent +5 HP and +0.5 melee damage resistance. Promoting a rogue grants +1 to Cunning, which gives the player a permanent +0.5% critical chance, and +0.5 ranged damage resistance Promoting a mage grants +1 to Willpower, which gves the player a permanent +0.5% boost to attack power, and +0.5 elemental damage resistance Damage resistances has a cap at 80% (or 160 points in each stat), while critical chance does not go above 100% (or 200 points), so any points in Cunning after that is pointless, (but hey, rogues are fun to play). Now, Constitution and Willpower does not have a cap, and will stack attack power and HP indefinitely, therefore giving the player an opportunity to get incredibly powerful, if they so desire. 5. Now, there are 3 additional stats that does not show up in the character select screen. Dexterity: Grants +1% attack (rogues only) and +1% critical damage per point. Strength: Grants +1% attack (warriors only) and +1% bonus damage to guard on hit, per point. Magic: Grants +1% attack (mages only) and +1% bonus damage to barriers on hit, per point. *Crafting:* 1. Do not waste Cotton (any variant) on armor upgrades or by crafting Dragon Calls, as this is the only way to add "Heal on Kill" to weapons. 2. Mages does not benefit from armor penetration or armor sundering, so do not craft staff attachments with armor pen or sundering on them. 3. Try out different weapon builds by testing various add-on combinations. 4. A note: To unlock the purple armors, you will first need to craft a weaker (blue) variant, before the three options for purple armors become visible. *Items and weapons:* 1. There are certain items that you should keep, by any means (you can scrap duplicates, or current weapons if the newer has a better damage roll). This includes purple weapons of higher levels (20 and above), ability rings, purple stat rings (keep two of each), amulets and belts. Note: there is a set of blue rarity weapons that you need to keep, and these are the lyrium weapons (all of which are at level 26), which you will need to unlock the purple variants. 2. Certain items are very hard to come by, and will likely only drop once. These are the following: - Hakkon's Honor (sword, level 26) - Hakkon's Valor (greatsword, level 26) - Hakkon's Mercy (x2, daggers, level 26) - Hakkon's Wrath (bow, level 26) - Hakkon's Wisdom (staff, level 26) - Bolt, Brand and Rime (elemental swords, level 27) - The Dancer's Axe (greataxe, level 27) - The Bosun's Blade (dagger, level 27) - Andruil's Gift (bow, level 27) - The Knight's Second (shield, level 27) - Amulet of Physical Immunity - This is the best item in the game, by a long mile. It makes you completely immune to physical effects (knockdowns, stuns etc.) - Crescent Shadow (sword, level 27) - This can only be obtained once you have collected all of the previously mentioned items. The special thing about the Hakkon weapons, as well as the Crescent Shadow is that they all feature +100% critical damage, as well as a passive effect that procs on kill, or randomly by hitting enemies. 3. A good rule of thumb is to always keep good armor upgrades, and purple runes (2 of each type) 4. You can mark unwanted items and salvage them directly once you obtain them (after a match, or after opening a chest). This way you will not be filling up your inventory (which has a cap of 255 items). 5. Potions, grenades and tonics has a cap of 255 in the inventory. However, while health potions does show 255 maximum, the actual amount is uncapped. 6. Save up at least 10,000 gold at a time, and buy the 2000 gold chests in rapid succession. This way, you have a slightly better chance of getting new items. 7. Dragon runs (on Nightmare and Heartbreaker difficulty) has a better chance of dropping Hakkon weapons.
Worth noting: it's entirely possible that Amund/Sky Watcher isn't a mage, but a Spirit Warrior (one of the frequently forgotten specializations from Awakening). I mention this because he has Stamina as his resource, rather than Mana--and there *is* an explanation for how he can pull that one off (particualrly as even a Dwarf warden can pull this off with a training manual). It's plausible he's the answer of "what would happen if someone had ACTUAL training in this spec?"
I'm super sad that of all the multiplayer characters that make an appearance in the single player, that Isabela isn't one of them. Imagine leaving Cullen's office and Isabela is just there, in Skyhold, which is on top of a mountain, in winter, and Isabela is still in a mini skirt haha.
I had quite a lot of fun with the multiplayer back in the day and unlocked all the characters. I was so happy when I saw their names pop up in War Table operations. They actually put some work into integrating the two game modes, which I didn't expect because the multiplayer felt very tacked-on.
I was one of the community testers for the Dragon Age multiplayer. I tested the dragon expansion, the increased difficulty expansions, and Isabella and Zither. If you play on Xbox or PC, I'm happy to play with you if you need another person. I'm a little rusty but I'm sure we can get'r done
I'm not a fan of multiplayer but they clearly put real work into this. I do hope some of these characters show up again in some way, shape or form. And that they make use of some of the mechanics for the characters. Those seem cool and really unique and flavorful.
I thought of you before when watching the new trailer because of the symbols they've now added to "the tambourine" 😂 it says about elven gods and then shows the symbols, symbols that remind me of some of the monsters in the old art works and trailers 🥴 I wanna play the next game so bad
I watched this yesterday and in the back of my mind since I just kept thinking "I can't believe those characters I would stop, look at outside Cullen's office, and wonder what their story was were part of the multiplayer." I had to come back and comment because AHHHH
Just wanted to say that I love the way you did the transitions using the character voicelines. That way we got to hear a bit from them while not drawing the video out too long.
I actually love the lore and characters from the multiplayer. In some respects, they feel like proto-versions of companion characters for DAI, as if some of these characters were floated as possible companions before they settled on the group that actually ended up in DAI. But I find Hall fascinating, because his backstory is unique. A non-elf blooded human raised by the Dalish, who doesn't feel comfortable around other humans, but who has been made to feel like an interloper by the elves who raised him....and his relationship to Argent, an Orlesian assassin who has been used as a tool most of her life and denied personhood. Great stuff in there.

oh i'm so happy to see a little spotlight on the multiplayer characters!! they're such fun!! i especially love just how *much* character the team manged to pack into so little banter. i always get a kick out of belinda's adorable little crush on hall, and how much of a team dad thornton seems to be.
I was really hoping someone would come out with a video like this as I feel I missed out on the DAI multi-player after watching Jack Jackdaw stream it recently. Thank you!
I'm glad you're back Caitie. You have been missed this year. I would still love to hear your thoughts on how exactly enchantments work. Like, the runes are symbols made of titan blood, how do these symbols explicitly activate when exposed to blood (titan or mortal)?
So all these characters are supposed to be under the employ of the Inquisition? Why did Isabela and ZITHER! (lol) join up? Also, isn't there a banter/dialogue with Varric stating that she's back to being a pirate?
I loved the multiplayer in dai. I played it months after finishing my single player playthrough and would go back to it multiple times over the years. The last time was about 2 years ago and it was depressing - no people to play with, the game itself stuttering and lagging terribly. Had to give up after a couple of days trying. Hey but who knows, maybe I’ll go back to it now because you made me want to play again it so much! And yes, I have all characters unlocked and most of them maxed out. I remember when they added Isabela, I was ecstatic, imagining they’ll add more of the previous companions in later patches, but of course they never did. Imagine how much fun you’d have playing with Isabela, Zevran, Orghren and Merrill. Wouldn’t even care about potential lore/world state problems.
I love these characters so much, I wish I had the right mindset to play multiplayer. I'm glad they brought back Sidony in Tevinter Nights and I hope the others get some codex entries and cameos down the line! I also love that they used this as an opportunity to callback to past quests (the Legacy dwarves, the dragon cult) and get some goofier characters like ZITHER! And Isabela ❤️
There r two other multiplayer characters in Skyhold besides the 3 nearby Cullen. The alchemist sits looking at Blackwall’s direction. Then there is the female mage that walks in the garden ☝️
To this day, I wish that Bioware had allowed us to access the MP characters' armor sets in single player. So many of them are way cooler than *anything* the Inquisitor can wear. Will forever be bitter about how many characters outshine the Inquisitor in the fashion department lmao.
Dragon Age is my favorite Game series, so much so that I've created my own Oc set in the world a noble family called The Lionheart Clan in the "Free Marches"
Nooo. You can earn every character just by playing. I met one of my closest friends, and eventually former roommate five years ago in multiplayer. We’ve been playing off and on since then. I can’t speak for the pc lobbies but on Xbox it’s very chill. Older players will frequently help get new players through higher levels so they can level up faster and get better gear. I usually roll through the easy levels and offer to carry people. (Exp is shared no matter who kills what.)
Ooh, I really liked the Multiplayer characters, even if the multiplayer itself was a bit dull. But doesn't Argent mean silver rather than mercury? Cause, Argentina? And Wiki said so 😅 did Bioware mess it up
I always wanted to play the multiplayer. I tried once when DAI first released. The other people were rude and rushed through everything, so I never touched it again. Definitely would try again if I ever had enough friends to, but at this point why bother.

Haven’t read it, but you’re getting a like for the effort
Caitie: “Ugh I can’t do anything fun for DA Day this year :(“
BioWare: “I got you, baby gurl”

I can't wait for your 2 hour long dissection of this new 1 minute DAD trailer.

I love how Embarressed you sounded when you said you were a fan of the "I'm a sad man and Need someone to hold me" Energy that Hall has lol
Wow, I remember Luka, her surviving alone in the Deeps for Months or longer sounds like Fanfic material to me and very imoressive

I lucked out and unlocked ZITHER! early playing the multiplayer, he was a fun mage variant that makes me hope for some kind of battle bard in DA:D
I was really hoping someone would come out with a video like this as I feel I missed out on the DAI multi-player after watching Jack Jackdaw stream it recently. Thank you!
The exploding drummer thing was a reference to the Christopher Guest Spinal Tap movie.
I'm glad you're back Caitie. You have been missed this year. I would still love to hear your thoughts on how exactly enchantments work. Like, the runes are symbols made of titan blood, how do these symbols explicitly activate when exposed to blood (titan or mortal)?
How do you have a hug after your name
Loved this! I've always enjoyed DAMP and there is some good stuff tucked away in it as you've covered.
Pre-watch: it’s all about how Caitie feels about Jordan getting the Keeper on a live stream
No wait I meant Zeathran
@@harryfailsgaming1246 im still mad tbh
Big fan of the multiplayer
Great video caitie:)
Argent is also French for Silver.
Lol the drummer thing is a nod to This is Spinal Tap.
Yes! DanaDuchy is awesome for making those vids. There was a lot of dialogue I missed.
So all these characters are supposed to be under the employ of the Inquisition? Why did Isabela and ZITHER! (lol) join up? Also, isn't there a banter/dialogue with Varric stating that she's back to being a pirate?
Happy DA Day, Ghil!!!
Nice to see a video of you again!
Can't wait to watch this hope your well caitie
I wanna see Luka and Tamar's crazy two-woman show across Thedas
Now I feel like playing this again...
I like that Thornton is northern and hal is a southerner (English accents)

If you're somewhere in Europe, we could arrange to play some multiplayer, because I haven't found anyone in it for a long time 😅
Update: returned to playing the multiplayer since I posted that comment. No issues with connectivity, plenty of people to play with!
thank you for this
I love these characters so much, I wish I had the right mindset to play multiplayer. Caitie, you are amazing ☺
10:41 well that's helped me solve a mystery in another fandom I have always wondered......
The character cards look so good
So many new characters.
Qunari girl hmmm?da4?
1st. Fun stuff. Loved the multi-player.
Hi are you going to make a video on DA absolution and Meredith’s return ?
ISABELLA?!?
Heck I think I even tried playing some DAMP back when the game came out and I had no idea!
There r two other multiplayer characters in Skyhold besides the 3 nearby Cullen. The alchemist sits looking at Blackwall’s direction. Then there is the female mage that walks in the garden ☝️
Ok, Zither's skill tree icons are AMAZING! Any have a full list of those references??
To this day, I wish that Bioware had allowed us to access the MP characters' armor sets in single player. So many of them are way cooler than *anything* the Inquisitor can wear. Will forever be bitter about how many characters outshine the Inquisitor in the fashion department lmao.
Leliana did an oopsie when it came to Lady Sybil lol
Oh boy. More DA videos
Hey! No chance to make a video on DAI vs DAD concept art comparison any time soon, right ?
Dragon Age is my favorite Game series, so much so that I've created my own Oc set in the world a noble family called The Lionheart Clan in the "Free Marches"
Mother was an Orlesian Soldier and Father Was a Mage in the Free Marches
all the videos ive ever checked of you arer at least 2 years old...its word to be 1 hour in.
Zither would be a fun party member if you ask me.
ZITHER! was announced on April 1st. Lol
Wow, early new post

15:59 "Just uses the Basic British Female Grunts." Made of Awesome :)
how tf can grunts sound british?
It occurs to me this is the only piece of DAI game content I haven’t tried, is it even playable these days? 😂
Give us the rockstar as a follower in Dread Wolf

Always a thrill when the queen of dragon age uploads
Great lil glorbos xD
the multiplayer is fun, but each session is a bit too long to really farm it.consistently
I love Luca
And zither and Isabella obvs
Damp!
So, I'm learning Irish, now when I see elvish my brain has a seizure. It looks so much like irish but follows none of the rules
none of these guys look like their cards
I'm sorry to say, but I have ZITHER! I don't think you'll like him as he's hard to master. In the heat of battle switching chords/spells is quite tricky.
My favorite was the Templar. Which is weird for me, because I hate the organization.
Did you see the new trailer ? So the veil isn’t going to come down we have to stop Solas from destroying it I’m so annoyed about this I wanted the veil to come down I wanted change how boring
Ok. This was WAY more interesting than I thought it was going to be. Still not interested in the multi-player tho.
tnxx for video and if someone still plays multiplayer then add me-moreas. Let’s play together 😢
